Huben  GK1 - Carbine or Stock Mods

Here is my review on the Slide Stock I recently bought. I have no affiliation with the company where I bought it from. If you need to know where I bought it, you can PM me or search for it.

I love my folding stock, but IMHO, this stock is perfect for those who want to holster their GK1 but also want a carbine without the bulk or weight! The Slide stock is rock solid metal with minimal slop, no major wiggle. It allows for more points of contact. It also can be partially extended and locked to use as a pistol. There is a 13" LOP, a 15" LOP would be perfect for me! The Stock poles are angled sloped downward, but if the LOP was a little longer and that the butt plate was longer, it would provide a more comfortable scope sight picture, and the small angled slope not necessary, but I still think it is awesome! I will let the company know of my opinions. Overall, It is a holstered hunting machine! The only issue I have is that it does not have the ability to have a cheek rest. But the benefits far outweigh the need to have a cheek rest!

I am ordering a top Pic rail to move my scope back more, and a 1911 grip, and blacked out accessories, and this baby is finished! Unless I decide to go Shorty!:)

H&N Baracuda Match pellets

IT is an indication that different dies were used. Sadly, size may actually be very similar. I can rarely feel a difference in seating pressure between them, but one "size" is often better in one gun, and you really need to give both a try. In some guns, I can find no difference in groups.

N/A  Best *Obsolete* or *Discontinued* PCP Rifle?

CZ200’s and unregulated Royale for me.

CZ barrels in my two 200’s shoot lots of different pellets well. The Royale was designed specifically for 18gr jsbs and did it phenomenally.
Unregulated and regulated, both great.

N/A  QD Fox magazines: User opinions

I have 2 for my Vixen and they work great. I was initially disappointed and thought they were difficult to load. I reached out to the maker and they asked if I removed the top? DUH! The top is held in place with magnets and once removed they are VERY east and much faster to load than the OEM mags. I find I reach for the Fox mags first over the OEM mags.

MINI REVIEW: Huma Mod 40 Avalanche Moderator (Problem Solved?)

Well. If you’re shooting 2” groups at 35yds that would probably be 4” groups at 70..which doesn’t work for my use..shooting ground squirrels out to 150yds..but if you’re OK with that I’m not going to argue with you.

Not to derail the thread but because you asked..

If I’m not mistaken, the orange circles are 3”. Distance was 37yds. Wind right to left but not steady. The airgun used was an Edgun R5 Standard (short 18” barrel). Tuned to shoot the JSBs at 895..ball park 78ish FPE. The low shots were probably me not maintaining proper hold..too consistent in location to blame the pellets as flyers. The RTI P1s I currently have shoot this well or better..and have used the Mod40.

Just to be clear, what I said about 2" groups was about the Sig. Now as for the Avenger, compared to what you've shown, it's not bad for someone wearing a blindfold, because that's what it looks like to me. So maybe the low shots were because you opened your eyes? 😉

Scopes with center dots and suitable for hunting?

OK, good, that's helpful: 👍🏼

1️⃣ Top end magnification:
At least 16x for 100y range — better 20x for seeing impact holes in paper target.

2️⃣ Bottom end magnification — really means "Field of View (FoV)":
Your comment that your 6-24x has a FoV that is too narrow is spot-on for ranges of 15y (typical FoV of 6-24x scopes is 20-22ft @100y).
For close-range hurried shots I consider 30ft "sufficient" — but 40ft "ideal".
There are few scopes with a bottom end of 4x that will give you those 30ft.
The bottom end magnification that gives you those 40ft is usually 3x.

🔶️ Combining your top end and bottom end magnification requirements results in the ideal scope being a:
★ common: 3-18x
★ very rare: 2.5-20x | 3-24x | 3-28x

Less than "ideal" due to a narrower FoV, but "sufficient" could be:
★ uncommon: 4-24x
★ common: 4-20x (but often with a rather narrow FoV, e.g., Sightron)
★ rare: 4-32x

I attach below 2 Scope Specs Tables where you can compare scopes with those magnification ranges.

All scopes in the tables are separated into SFP and FFP.

They all have a 10y minimum parallax.

They all have exposed elevation turrets and a hold-off reticle.

⮕ You now simply go to the SFP section in the Tables.
There you find your magnification range —
then make sure the FoV is OK —
and note the price and warranty —
and if the reticle has a center dot (CD). (Please, note that only recently I started adding this info, so there are some scopes where this is not stated.)

Have fun scope shopping!

Matthias 😊

wow very nice thank you!

FX  Wildcat consistency problems

Could be, i dunno, some of it looks fine. My question is if I back it down 3-5%, that puts me in the 960 fps range, where the es is much worse???
Maybe your plateau is a bit above 992 since you stopped once the increase in fps became way smaller. But based on the string you’re certainly close. How much below the plateau a specific gun really l”likes” is individual, 95-98% of plateau is just ballpark. I have guns that do amazing at 97.5-%-98% but open up at 96% and vice versa… maybe your WC wants to be at 97-98%, which would mean 975 or so with the 18 gr. You’d need to use the hammer screw and not the wheel to dial it in for that and try…

N/A  Best *Obsolete* or *Discontinued* PCP Rifle?

I would say an FX Elite. Made around 2012 and was a single shot that was side cocking had through the bolt transfer port with no probe. I never see anyone post on them any more but I always wanted one.
Here ya go! I waited 3 years for this rifle to come up for sale. It is an amazing rifle.
