Tariffs Explained - Pyramyd AIR Insyder

We’ll have to wait and see as to the actual effect on the economy. Fact is that a lot of investments needing imported stuff where accelerated to avoid tariffs. Which typically means that investments will be slower following that. Plus, we’ll have to see whether consumers and companies will still buy stuff from outside the country and pay the tariffs (which will curb domestic product demand since people have don’t have unlimited money) or whether they stop buying imported stuff. My money is on they’ll keep buying it. Which makes the entire thing a tax on us… and means that there’s less money to be spend on other stuff. It’ll take 6-12months or so until you’ll actually see the direction this will be going. Of course there will always be people who tout any proof that a certain policy they are told to believe in is harmful as nonsense even though they have been wrong so many times in the past that nobody pays attention to them anymore ;)
Most of the predictions I saw from economist was 2nd or 3rd quarter for the effects to become a trend. As you said most companies increased stocks prior to tariffs. I saw several corps give that as reason to expect lower first quarter earnings.

But if inflationary pressure grows it will be virtually impossible to lower while tariffs are in effect. The general economy is in fair shape so the only driver at that point is tariffs. Our rapacious oil companies have normalized their gouging so energy is no longer driving inflation.

Marginal gains and barrel/projectile choice

Thanks for the post, FL. You obviously took a deep dive into the DEEP end of the wind drift pool. If I'm not mistaken, your testing revealed what many of my deeper dives do, that being inconclusive.🤬 "Was hoping for more convincing data of the superiority of one of these over the other."

FWIW, I've avoided the deep waters after an accuracy-testing comparison of unsorted pellets versus pellets sorted by head size. The unsorted pellets outshot every sorted head-size.:oops:o_O

Perhaps the deep end of the pool should have a sign that reads 'Warning- Deep Water/INCONCLUSIVE'.

Compared to what the "experts" said about the tariffs early this year...I think .03% is pretty good.
Of course there will always be people who tout a tiny change in a negative direction as "proof" that the policies they disagree with are a failure even if they have been wrong so many times in the past that nobody pays attention to them any more.

Who knows him?

I know him pretty well. He's ok, I wouldn't call him perfect as he sometimes forgets what he's up to. He runs a small HVAC business and works on airguns in his spare time (ha ha, like there's much of it). He also has some health issues that sometimes keep him from doing things, but he lives with it and moves on. But no complaints there.
I'm sure he didn't mean to snub you and just to be honest, he gets a lot of trade offers and sometimes can't even remember who asked what. He does a lot of tuning and tinkering and doesn't always follow messages well, ... which he should and will endeavor to perservere, and do better.
Lighten up a bit and remember, this is a hobby, it's supposed to be fun.

Tuning  Umarex M1A1 Thompson Repair

MacMaster-Carr sells all sorts of mechanical parts, including raw materials. They’re a bit more pricey than the local hardware store but they have just about everything.
If you’re sure that the thing stopping the bolt’s backward travel is in fact the large tube, then it might be easier (than a donut) to simply slip a soft plastic (nylon, Teflon, etc) sleeve over the large tube, and perhaps 1/16”-1/8” longer. Such a sleeve need not be a precise fit …. a lengthwise cut along the sleeve would allow a slightly undersized sleeve to pry open and clamp down onto the larger tube

Scope recommendation for drs tactical

since most shots will be 100y and under for most air gun use, I'd recommend not spending more than you spent on your gun. Not like your going to shoot 1000 yards. I like the Athlon scopes Mongoose has recommended and the elements are a decent scope too. Hawke makes some reasonable priced scopes too and life time warranty.

Airforce  Help Mold texan lss cf .50

Hello. I need help. Which mold do you recommend for the pellets for my Texan LSS CF .50? I'm looking for something between 380 and 420 grains with a good flat tip. My question is, should the mold be .510 or .501? I hope Amazon or someone can ship to Chile. I can't find anything in this country, and I'm tired of buying very poor quality pellets made in Chile.

Economies are VERY slow to change momentum. If the July numbers follow then it starts the beginning of a trend line. The issue is that there were no obvious reasons beyond the tariffs. Raw material stockpiles have been or are being depleted of the pre-tariff materials. So base cost will be going up. Finished goods imports are already affected.

Corporations, especially publicly traded, will not be absorbing the added costs. Those will be passed to the consumer.

European Air Gun companies have already raised prices to match the tariffs.

Crosman  Crosman 1377 pellet choice question

10.3 gr CPHD Gave ne dime sized groups at 10 yards with factory sights, when I set up my first 1377.

Another vote for the JSB / AA / FX 10.3's. They shoot very well out of my .177's. However, every barrel is different so test them all. It's a rough job but someone has to do all that plinking. Soup cans beware.

I was gonna comment something similar to this, a lot of companies pre ordered ahead of the tarrifs. So the new shipments coming afterwards are the ones that will be affected. Walmart has already done. I've made these implementations, and you should see it's if you compare the prices of airguns and airgun, ammo now versus or maybe a month ago

Googling minimum FPE needed for pellet expansion.

Velocity is the key to expansion....on the handful of pellets that are actually capable of some deformation. Most pellets will not deform at air rifle speeds. A good real world example I have tried myself is the Hades/Atomics. The 22Cal does great and will deform on a spectrum relative to velocity, but the 25/30Cal wont really deform. This has also been tested on youtube with gel and water, although not a good test for game performance. The H&N Crow Magnums and Hunter Extremes will do pretty good expansion on game as well, depending on the speeds.
Makes sense, since FPE is directly affected by velocity (and weight). Which is why I'm dying for my rifle to come back with the steroid tune ... more velocity equates to more expansion.

Springer vs. PCP

Welcome! And, ah... the ever returning "PCP vs springer" question. The coincidence is that I did some testing today at 25 meters with two FX PCP's and one Weihrauch springer. Regulated PCP's (especially those from brands like FX) are known for their accuracy due to the lack of recoil and their shot consistency. Springers are violent. There's a lot of movement going on inside of a springer. A heavy metal piston slams against a wall, compressing air and moving a projectile forward. With springers the hold needs to be consistent in order to shoot them as accurate as a PCP. Proof is in the eating of the proverbial pudding, so here it comes;

Number 1): the FX DRS Tactical (out of the box, 41 joules shooting 18 grain .22 JSB's at 25 meters from a bipod).

View attachment 576628

Number 2): the FX Dreamline GRS (medium settings, 31 joules shooting 16 grain .22 JSB's at 25 meters from a bipod).

View attachment 576626

Number 3): the Weihrauch 97 (stage 2 tuned, 21 joules shooting 7.87 grain .177 JSB's at 25 meters from the bench on a pillow, rested on my hand).

View attachment 576627

So are springers accurate. Well, you be the judge of that. My guess is that they are according to these 10-shot groups, shot from the prone position, on 50-meter ISSF visuals shot from a distance of 25 meters.

Is a springer good enough for ethical headshots? This 21 joule (15.5 ft·lbf) most definitely is, at least up to 45 / 50 meters. The HW97 has set me back (unscoped, but including the new stock and internal tuning) around €1400 euro's, which is more than the average PCP by itself, but lacks the air tank, compressor and other stuff you need to keep a PCP going. In other words, you can shoot all day without running out of air. But please do invest in a good quality springer like a Weihrauch, because the Rekord trigger alone is worth the extra money, and it will last you a lifetime if you take good care of it.

Sidenote: I'm not trying to be a showoff here. This here was a personal test case, just to see how my top leisure airguns are tuned and do at the moment.

EDIT: getting a lot of questions about the HW97, so here are some answers:

- the stock is a "LP Gunstocks UK" (Lukas Parsley) Stutzen Stock (https://www.lpgunstocks.co.uk/). Not cheap, but absolutely worth the money!
- Internal tuning by AirJoe Germany (https://airjoe.de/en/), full piston, sleeve, spring, the works tune.
You are a great boon to JSB sales. I'm not sure what is most precise, the gun or the pellets. I too shoot JSB's, but also the Crosman Accupells.
