HW/Weihrauch  HW50 S Jubilee model 75 Years Limited Edition Blue Laminate

75 years places the HW 50's initial production at 1950, which is correct. I don't know what the original "V" stood for, but not sure it matters...as an HW collector, I can tell ya they change model designations at the drop of a hat, and re-use them to mean different things, etc.

The HW 50 of the 1950's shares nothing with today's gun anyhow, beyond the name and overall size.

Coyote hunt, skunked again

Any successful coyote hunters out there your input is more than welcome. Talked to a local guy out here it's been hunting this area for a long time said these coyotes are pressured so much and everyone's using callers now he said you're better off using a mouth caller instead of pre-recorded stuff. The coyotes have heard it all before and are just leery.
Going to try going out at dusk instead of two or three in the morning and try my luck that way.

I use a Bluetooth speaker and a few prerecorded full sets from Predator University mixed in with a bunch of sounds I’ve picked along the way. Your situation is similar to mine. They are super highly pressured so some different sounds works. Woodpecker sounds work sometimes, I have a whole new set of an owl attacking various rodents… I also use an open read caller for a howl or too but mostly just to make a really dramatic rabbit distress. You might try a squeaker? Desert dogs eat a lot of mice I think.

The best thing you can do and I don’t do enough of this is drive around at night. Get to a spot you think might have coyotes and just put the caller out the window and play locator howls. If you hear anything that’s your sign. It’s still denning season for a few more weeks so their ranges aren’t huge yet… I’m still going coyote sounds and pup distress before I do any prey distress. The advantage I have in Utah is NV and in my county we can spot light. I do all my calling at night right now. They are not so much “dawn and dusk” this time a year. When it’s super hot I see them more from like 2am until just before sunrise. If the jackrabbits are out and about the coyotes will be too.

Once the weather cools I’m still gonna call still but mostly I’m gonna try out a pressure baiting scheme… freeze all your bloody critters and scrap in a 5 gallon bucket with water. I have a couple spots on BLM near my house where I’ll just dump the baitcicles… first week or two I’ll bait frequently and not hunt. After that I’ll continue to bait but shoot the ones I see… when it starts to get really cold I’ll bait less and maybe only once a week. From what I understand if you do it right they can get so desperate for the free meal they can be pretty reckless.

Good luck broski.

30-Yard Challenge

This is for the leadership spreadsheet

Stoeger Bullshark 22 with Athlon Argos 10-40 at 40X
AEA 18.3gr at about 820 fps
Shot early this morning before 8am. Weather report says 3mph wind but I wasn't seeing any
199 15X Masters

I got the idea that my "under 195" scores with this gun and pellet might be due to a dirty barrel and I cleaned it last night instead of watching TV. It was filthy. Took about 10 patches using both sides to clean up. This morning the wind was low and the forecast is it is the only low wind period I'll have today. Earlier yesterday I moved scopes around and put my best target scope, the Athlon, on this rifle. I don't think it versus the 32X Vector made a significant difference on the score but it makes it a more pleasurable experience. I fired about 10 shots on the clean barrel to adjust the scope. It was more than a little off. After about 10 shots I started this target. Actually I started a different target first but wasn't sighted in well, I made an adjustment and it took a shot to settle in. So after two cells I started this one instead. I started off great but the POI started moving around a little. I adjusted my point of aim between shots and it cost me Xs to have to move around but I was still getting 10s until the last shot. The POI moved right back to the center dot and I was aiming low - and hit low. I am pretty sure this is the best I've done on the Masters target so I am still happy with it.

30-Yard Challenge

Thanks for the kind comments.

For S_Gru, Tommy's comments should carry more weight than mine, he shoots better. But I do not have the patience to shoot totally off bags. Repositioning for each shot is just not something I want to do. With yesterday's target I have now shot a grand total of 3 200s, one each of the last three years. So I've done it but cannot consider myself at the upper level of this. Two of my 200s were with a front bipod and a rear monopod that adjusts for windage and elevation. I believe Ed uses a nicer version of this method of supporting his airguns. I'll include a picture of my home made version. The only a little bit complicated fabrication technique is to weld all threaded rod couplers together. My latest 200 was done with a Caldwell Rock BR front rest and a rear bag, I think the exact same one pictured by Tommy. That front rest was about $125 when I bought it. It adjusts for height and elevation nicely. It does not have the slop in the threads of my home made monopod. If you are patient bags alone clearly work. If you want to be able to mechanically realign the scope for the shots that can be done at either the front or the rear of the gun,

30-Yard Challenge

Thanks Jim!

“Tim the Tool Man,“ I am not.

I’m 71 years old and this is the 2nd time in my life using my new Dremmel. The guy at ACE Hardware gave me the idea earlier in the day while I was asking about using a round wood file.

I didn’t realize the power or RPMs this thing could muster and I accidentally chipped a small piece of stock around this nipple hole. Fortunately, it faces the bottom and no one sees it. However, the Dremmel was the exact right tool for fixing the Royale.

But, it always makes me feel like a million bucks when I can fix/try something myself vs. send a gun out to have it repaired. Usually, I accidentally screw it up, then send it out but I at least give it a try first.

I actually get a bigger kick from challenging my ‘ insecurity ‘ and fixing my AG once in a while vs, posting a good score.

Silly hobby altogether…😀😀

You could always send that Royale to me Tommy. Of course once I fix and tune it, I may need it for several months of “testing” to ensure the quality of my work 😉

Stressing on Rifle Cases, here's a soft case that actually fits

I apologize , i should have just kept my mouth shut , to much coffee this early hahaha
No worries and I'm sure there's cases like it with even more padding and if you see one let me know. It's's hard to tell dimensions even from pictures because of different angles. I was hesitant even ordering it without seeing it first

I love these Midway rifle cases:

Very well padded - always use these to transport my rifles to range.

Stressing on Rifle Cases, here's a soft case that actually fits

The divider wall between the two guns is a bit thin, quarter inch, but the rest is good it's sturdy, and for simple transport more than enough, unless you're just throwing the gun around and then get a hard case.

And I got skunked again, no coyotes. I parked the UTV walked about a hundred yards away and set up and nothing all night time to head home
