Head shot thread

So I got into PCP’s to hunt with my son. Got zeroed in yesterday and got a rabbit today at maybe 25 yards! Hit him right under the eye with a 28gr H&N extreme hunter pellet. I need to tune for slugs before next time! Love the Zulus, video quality is great 👍.

That’s excellent work! Was that with the Karma?

Coyote hunt, skunked again

It's free range out here in Arizona, cattle can go wherever the hell they want pretty much. These coyotes will follow a pregnant cow and wait until she's giving birth and move in. There's some in the tree line right now

Yeah we have some of that too but not as much trees as you have in this pic. Up high we have a lot but spread out and down here the thickets are nasty AF to walk through but even my short (5’9”) self can see over it most of the time…. That landscape you’re showing me is interesting. I think the wind direction is gonna be especially important because your scent can sorta get trapped in the trees like that. Or so I hear? I’ve pretty much only had success sitting up on a hill/cliff overlooking open terrain and or around a bend in a wash. Learned that one from an old timer. I’m still not great at it but if you set up behind a bend in a wash or creek bed you can catch them coming around the corner.

Also how loud are you playing the calls? Sometimes less is more.

I’m no expert so I’m just trying to throw as many things as I can think of at you… I’ve had some luck calling them though so maybe at least I’ve got a little luck. I’m rooting for you though. I hate coyotes and I really wanna shoot some with an air rifle. I’m dying to see some scope cam of you dropping 140fpe worth of lead into them.

Oh yeah, another thing I’ve started to investigate is moon phase and barometric pressure. Trolling the coyote hunting message boards I’ve definitely seen some talk about it. Some recommend an app like Solunar, some say it’s nonsense and others just day “when there’s a lot of deer out I tend to catch more fish/see more coyote/see more critters… I’m testing an app like solunar to see if I get any results out of it.

HW/Weihrauch  HW50 S Jubilee model 75 Years Limited Edition Blue Laminate

I am now reliably informed (thanks specie!) that "V" stands for the German word for "improved." So it may very well signify the switch from smoothbore to rifled barrels. IIRC the occupying Allies did forbid rifled barrels for some years.

I have a 1959 HW brochure in which the "V" is gone. But "M" denotes an HW 50 with an adjustable trigger, "S" adds a grooved receiver, and "SD" adds a match sight (per my point re: shifting designations above...M and S came to mean different things in later years). A note at the bottom of the page describes an optional upgrade stock with checkered grip and buttplate. In this brochure, the HW 35 and 55 had the then-new Rekord, but apparently not yet the HW 50.

Benchrest rifle

You all have pretty short memories. Recently, Ana Rose Spanagel, using an Avenge-X .25, with a factory barrel, beat all comers in a 3 card 100y benchrest match.
Avengers are certainly good shooters and one of the best bargains at the entry level ... AND ... Congrats to Anna Rose too!

Steyr  Steyr Hunting 5A

Just a quick update as i´m heading out..

Moved the sear point on the hammer them 3mm. Then used a to "mellow" hammer spring (on 1.25mm dia wire vs 1.4, which is what i´ve got in mind for starters) and with a reg pressure of approx 140 bar i´m seeing approx 75-80J (55-59fpe).
To be honest it´s as i regard it to early in the tuning process to make any real assumptions as such but we´re no doubt heading the right direction.

It´s auto reloading too from what it seems, at least as output power goes up.

Want to play around more with both reg pressure and hammer spring asap.

RAW Rapid  RAW TM1000 My Thoughts 🧐

Finally got my hands on one of these mythical air pistols. Is it as good as everyone says or did it disappoint? You will just have to watch to find out.

I might have one on the way IF the guy decides to actually sell ,
Keep your fingers crossed for me ! I will drive to FL. to pick it up ( ok and visit my sister also )

Fed-Ex lost another one! Just in case someone might see it

No movement of the package.
No updates or calls from a representative.
No delivery attempt was ever made ..the package went on a trailer and was never unloaded
I would think they would start to look where last reported, but zero effort has been made
Fed Ex will close the case soon ...will use other carriers in the future
Replacing the rifle will not be the same
It's like losing a friend i kave known for years
Have to hold on the a string of hope, but it is gossamer thin
Thank you to all for the well wishes and helpful suggestions
Mike
Mike....again....so SORRY! You had that cut rifle barrel RAW for a long time built by Martin......sigh.....

Does your head spin?

Is your shooting going to be mainly in the back yard? How close are your neighbors? A .177 Cal is cheaper to shoot and uses less air per shot . It also doesn't carry far so if you are shooting at a squirrel and miss you don't have to worry about hitting someone or something and damaging them or it. You need to take into consideration how much hand pumping to shooting is acceptable.
^^^^^^This advice from DesertSilver could save you $$$$$, time, fustration, and neighborhood peace!^^^^^^

IMO, If your backyard is in a more suburban area then a .177 is cheaper, quieter, and safer. A Gamo Urban in .177 would be ideal.
