What pistol did you shoot today

Umarex Smith & Wesson 586.
I believe I am at least the third owner, the guy I bought it from got it from another guy who had it stripped, polished and chrome plated, including the all important magazines.
Not sure if it qualifies as a 686 now though... 🤔

It's a bit of a fingerprint magnet, so it's going to get a treatment of Renaissance Wax quite soon.
After hearing that ...I would have to say that Pistol is most defiantly a one of a kind ...a Picasso,Rembrandt...I would put that in my coffin with me lol ...so how many shots do you get from a Sparklet...lol..and yes I am making fun of your English..I was checking out the 686 PPC 1500...don't like the black clip on it...they were saying that the tolerance's were too close to color coat them ...doesn't seem to effect your's.... unless there was a design change on that model ...the 686-6 Gold one is growing on me ...Bond 007 issue..Gold Finger

N/A  Hammerli AP-20 vs AP-20 Pro

Currently mulling over the differences between a normal Hammerli AP-20 and the AP-20 pro. Mainly I'm concerned about the polymer grip and the air tank.

The grip seems to be sort of ambidextrous with additional plastic parts for a bottom shelf and where you're palm/wrist would be (sorry for the poor terminology, new to this), as opposed to a larger wooden one that one would sand down. Not sure about other forms of adjustment. Would this be a significant downside for some of you? I was considering at some point just wrapping it with putty, 3d scanning it, and printing out a custom grip anyway, unless if traditional wood and sanding is the better way to go.

The air tank doesn't seem to have its own visible gauge. Is this also something that some of you would consider to be too big of a downside? I think I'd be okay with counting, but is there some other advantage I should know about of having a gauge on the tank? Also when looking through some older posts online (not necessarily on this site), I've seen one or two people mention that the vertical tank is weird. I'm not concerned about that as I'm 99% sure that it can be oriented horizontally, and the pictures just have it shown vertically to demonstrate the functionality.

As for the AP-20 Pro, the tank has a bit more capacity and a gauge, and the grip is wood.

I was wondering,are the100yd. groups getting better

The PCP 100yd benchrest sport is young. Money is being made...sufficient to support dedicated BR rifles being manufactured and available to the public. It would follow that more money should equal climbing scores. I expect that perfect scores (250-25X) will happen. Last year a 238-10X won the Pyramid Cup. I think I saw that a 240 was shot by somebody this Spring. BTW, the current rules only allow commercially available diablo pellets, no slugs.

When perfection becomes commonplace, the sport will change. Whether that involves a tougher challenge or adding a limiting factor, remains to be seen. I expect a separate slug competition will happen soon. All it will take is prize money.
There already is a slug challenge at Oregon's Extreme held in Ashland

Air Venturi  AV Avenger Bullpup, Reg in the Red?

It’s easy. Just a screw on the bottom. Just make sure it is fully depressurized. dont forget to dry fire to empty the plenum.
Thank You, I do feel comfortable with the adjustments. I'm more concerned that there could be damage already done that I'll just cover to for now? It hasn't been like this for long so I guess we'll see?

Air Venturi  AV Avenger Bullpup, Reg in the Red?

I don’t think you would damage it by opening it all the way if anything follow the procedure to reset a star with about 1400 psi and zero Hammer and they didn’t take your time. You can always go higher on the pressure and you can always go up and down on the hammer Until the rifle start shooting the the projectors you choose the way you want. I figure if you need more than 2600 psi on the rack you shooting too heavy for that particular gun but let’s see how it goes.

new guy to airguns

I try hand pumping and I still have a hand pump just in case but really for the price of the inexpensive portable compressors at Amazon buy one with extended exchange guarantee for $30 more and a second one just in case one fails I have the other one while it gets fixed. I also bought a water cool Chinese compressor thinking I be buying a scuba tank but now I realize with two compressors and a hand pump as a back up I’ll probably never use it, but I got a good deal for it so I’ll stay in the garage in a box in the meantime Keep us up on your journal what’s going on and how much you like the new gun thank you for your time and a good laugh

Are the AEA Precision Center puch pellets that good?

I am ready to order some pellets, the AEA pellets cost more that the other pellets, just curious if users think they are worth the higher price.
No, they are horrible, the pellets are the worst ever and their slugs, well what can I say. Do not buy them , if you have I'll do you a favor and take them off your hands for a small discount just to save you the grief.

Ok I'm kidding, my Raptor and both of my Mavericks LOVE THEM. They like to go fast, at least in my guns. My Raptor .25 is 932fps. My Maverick .25 is close to the same. Easily 1 MOA at 100 yards, definitely one minute of ground squirrel. You can run, in the case of .25's either there slugs 30.2gr or pellets 33.9gr at the same settings.

IMO much cleaner and more consistent, cleaner, and less damaged skirts compared to JSB’s

Umarex  [UMAREX] Glock 17 Gen 5 Tuning : Power Upgrade – Almost 7 Joules!

On the pellet version, you can remove the slide very easily you just need to push out the front pin, pull the slide back, then lift it up and it comes off. You can do that in less than 20sec. To change the barrel however, you'll also need to push out the rear pin to remove the entire internal mechanism : barrel, trigger, and hammer, which are all held in place in the plastic frame. It might seem intimidating at first, but I was surprised by how simple the mechanism is, there are actually very few parts. A hammer, sear, trigger bar and a trigger that has the rotating finger attached directly to it, which rotates the magazine chain https://streamable.com/uu1t35

Inside the slide, the blowback system is screwed in and contains a seal and the firing pin in the center. I find it very well-designed and clever, despite Umarex usual and unfortunate use of zamak and other alloys. Still, it seems reliable and durable overall. It’s a really cool Glock to modify. Another advantage is that it works in both single and double action, meaning you can disable the blowback and still shoot without having to manually rack the slide after each shot. In theory, that could increase power slightly, but I haven’t really tested it myself as I’m not interested in that.

Be careful though, its not a drilling job but a sculpting job, if you're not handy or don't have the right tools :i recommand a flex shaft grinder with a foot pedal, 1mm to 1.25mm carbide corn end mill for the valve and 6mm ball end mill for the magasine head. You’ll need to be precise when working on the valve which is tiny and in steel, or the head of the magazine. It’s easy to break something or remove too much material and pass through by mistake. Since spare parts aren’t available, you'd have to buy a new magazine.

But if you're into tinkering, it's a lot of fun. I don't have the BB version, but it’s obvious the pellet version is far more accurate. With my long barrel, it's very precise. It also has the benefit of holding more shots, and you can use specialty pellets like the H&N Hornet pistol with brass pointed tips for plinking.
Hello Clark33, I am glad for the info you shared I also like the same approach you have to having the pellet version reach its potential even less shot count but more Joules and accuracy. I do like to tinker also and have decent skills, like you mentioned (i have flex shaft and grinders also some machining skills). I would like to ask if you could give us a picture or dimension description of the enlarging of the cavity on the magazine so I have a guide on how to do this if you can share that would be great. The rest of the mods looks like you covered... later on Id like to do the longer barrel length either thread the end or press fit adapter 7/16 to 1/2-20 for moderator.
Just wanted to get an idea of how much material to remove from the gas chamber to enlarge it any guidance is appreciated. I did the same mod on a crossman 2240 opened up the chamber by about 20 then 30%, after 30% it did not make any difference also enlarged the all gas pass thru holes and with 16" barrel it is shooting reliably around 600fps. Any advice on the chamber would be great

Western Airguns  Western Airguns Mordax Venom

I'm pretty sure you have to dump all of the air out of the tank, and then dial down your reg screw. Then you fill it back up. You can increase power with air in the system, but you can't lower it.
I read through the owner's manual, and I was wrong here - if you want to lower the regulator pressure you have to empty the tank.

You can adjust the power up or down without having to do anything but turn the pressure screw one way or the other.

Obviously, this is for the original mordax regulator. Has anyone found any literature for thy Venom Booster Kit? I'm going to email Western Airguns to see if they have anything.

I found the following power specs interesting too. Note a min of 135 bar is required for the full auto function to work. The lowest they recommend setting it to is 110 bar, and in the regulator adjustment specs they advise against adjusting the regulator altogether.
