Thoughts on buying used?

i’ve bought and sold over 25 airguns on AGN. The only problems that I’ve experienced are when a seller fails to double box AND prevent contents from shifting. I’ve also bought numerous airguns from AOA and Utah and Pyramid and the Pellet shop - same thing happens with retailers who fail to box and protect items properly - damage! But the big box stores make it much easier to correct the problem.
I only buy used from reputable AGN members after reviewing their feedback profile. I’ve gotten some amazing deals buying used. But sometimes I send that “used” airgun directly into a maintenance depot for a reseal or upgrades. I only buy and sell scopes that have lifetime warranties like from Athlon or Sightron so if there’s a problem - they fix it straight away.
When you say maintenance depot? Is this like one of the retailers like pyramid or utah?

30-Yard Challenge

Due to the extreme heat I haven't been shooting very many cards other than one or two just before sunset occasionally. Today, it was 97F so, I decided to defrost the freezer in the garage and in the process I realized that it was quite uncomfortable as there was only a light breeze blowing. While waiting for the ice to melt I put out my wind flags and both 30 yd and 40 yd Challenge cards and then shot three 30 yd cards with my Chip Smith Sumo with my best score being 198-15X. Got the freezer going again and refilled and decided to switch to my Thomas for the 40yd card. Shot a 199-13X and decided to shoot a 30 yd Challenge with the Thomas since I hadn't shot anything other than 30 yd Masters cards with it this year. I picked a proven tin of pellets as conditions were extremely good with a very light almost steady left to right breeze and ended up with a 23X card. Forgot about the heat while shooting the last card.

Other  Light Weight Slugs

Here's a twist rate calculator to plug some numbers into, to see potentially what that barrel's twist rate likes as far as length and stability go.

Thanks. I’ve been playing around with that calculator for a while. It’s pretty useful, but I don’t think it’s perfect, the same as most things. Coming from shooting traditional muzzleloaders, I’ve seen firsthand that all guns and barrels have their own “best friends” as far as projectiles/patch thickness/lubes/powder charges go. I don’t think airguns are much different in the game of matching projectile/air/valve/lube/springs. As I’m sure you know though, that’s all part of the headache and fun of these sports!

shooting paper targets

Usually wasps are a beneficial insect eating other insects like termites and it looks like those ash borers. Hornets are a whole other matter! I have paper wasp nests under our eves and they do not bother us at all, I leave them alone so they can prey on termites, flies, mosquitoes etc....

First focal plane or second

Hello, I watched a couple of YouTube videos regarding which one these are best and why. What is everyone's opinion on them?
Youtube videos that say one is better than the other are not good videos. Look for videos that simply explain the DIFFERENCE between FFP and SFP scopes. Good videos about the DIFFERENCES between them will talk about how they are constructed and other such facts. The good videos will not be biased towards one or the other. The good videos will not claim that one is better than the other. They simply educate you and leave it up to you to decide which will work best for your situation.

FX  $2500 airgun

Depends on my need for the gun. Bench guns are heavy on purpose. Hunting rigs should be lighter. What am I shooting? Animals, paper, steel or cans. What distance? There's many other options in that range as well. Also many that can do the same including an optic and accessories. No disrespect to the question but it's too vague to answer just on the original question.

shooting paper targets

well today I found my third paper target, I was going to shoot all three down.. they are as big as a basketball.. but I did some checking and what I didn't know was that they prey on other insects.. so my plan was to shoot them down out of the trees on our 10 acres and then spray with wasp spray like the following day when it's cooler.. although the last few days it's been 114° here at 1500 ft above Rogue River Oregon..
we are loosing a lot of trees, mostly for and madrone trees and well supposedly the emerald ash borer only eats the ash tree and we don't have any ash trees in this area.. but the dead fir and madrone trees that I have cut down have those emerald ash borer in them.. even find them splitting wood.. and I found out that the wasps put their eggs larvae in the larvae of the ash borer and it's the only predator other than the wood pecker..
so I took this picture off the deck in the back yard.. I've seen 3 of these balls this week so I don't think I'll kill them..I have also verified that the beetle is actually a emerald ash borer.. and we are loosing a lot of trees
what do you all think.. it's all new to me as like a rattlesnake I thought the only good one was a dead one.. but they are not bothering me,I just don't like wasps, might also be something to do with that I'm allergic to getting stung..
what do you all think? such big balls too.. the wasps are two different colors.. back yard and out back in the back of the property they look black.. one near our water tank they look more yellow..

Pellet testing on pests?

I have considered shooting a freshly roadkilled pest to see what a given pellet and power combination would do. After all, the thing is already dead. The catch is that I would want to do it right onsite, and that would be an illegal place to shoot even a low-powered air gun.

Unless it is on the private road I have legal access to...but not much roadkill on it due to light traffic volume.

Some of the public roads have hotspots where you have to play dodgem with roadkilled animals--or parts of animals--when driving. Prairie dogs galore!
