First day with slugs!

@MJMDP Wow!! I was not expecting this when I read your thread’s title. more details about what you’re doing here. Are you pesting or hunting to harvest meat?

Both actually. The doves are pests, but we eat them also. The rabbits are for meat, they are not really considered a pest here but we have hundreds.

So not really for fun, but to eat.
Btw, all the rabbit are headshots to keep the meat whole!

MIP or HURDY

If you go on e bay or Amazon look at RC tools. The sets are more for a particular car . But the wrenches are universal. And the MIP are particularly good. When you are working on a dirty Allen screw in a damaged race car that is scraped and filled with dirt you reallllly don’t want to strip out the screw. So having a very hard Allen at 1.5-2 mm is critical . But the tools are not cheap. You get what you pay for. That said a lot of people buy the cheap sets and replace the tips with MIP .

FX  FX Maverick 30

Hi Mrclean4ya. The pin probe you are using has a freakishly long section of bevel between the "pin" diameter of it and the "full .30" diameter of it. That could explain what you are saying about the magazine trying to advance while the slug is being pushed into the breech. So your pin probe looks problematic to me. I would not use a pin probe like that. Although pin probes can be more efficient with air and give you a bit more power, the use of them is more complicated than I think you are ready to mess with. They need to be matched to the slug you are using in terms of the shape of the base of the slug. Like others have recommended -- I also recommend that you just switch to using the stock pellet probe, since it will work for slugs and pellets. Leave the use of pin probes for later when you better understand the maverick.

Once you switch to a pellet probe, your slugs might still have snagging problems going into the breech. This can be caused by a magazine that has a loose screw. Look at the back of the mag at the hex nut and make sure the machine screw is threaded all the way into the nut and it should be flush with the nut.
Another COMMON problem is like I said in my previous post -- your cheek rest could easily be blocking the magazines from seating fully into their home position. From the picture I see, it looks like someone did a little sanding on the cheek rest to try to eliminate the mis-alignment problem with magazines. There is a good chance that they really did not remove enough materal from the cheek rest to guarantee that it will never touch a magazine again -- ever.

Good luck.

Compressor Safety

In three years here on AGN IIRC, there was a Leshy tank on a gun that exploded, details were sketchy as I recall. And there may have been another gun tube cylinder that experienced a “rapid disassembly, again, sketchy info.
A friend that owns a dive shop in New York had a paintballers carbon fiber bottle explode on his arm. Pretty serious injury to his arm. His arm healed up in about a year and then got his index finger between a boats mooring line and a dock cleat and ripped his finger off and the tendon where it attached at the elbow.
He had some bad luck.
I filled thousands of aluminum and steel scuba tanks in a ten year period at a dive shop and many many SCBA’s at the dive shop, fire department and with my home compressor with not a single incident.
Keep your filling equipment in good shape and protected from unqualified users and replace things when you start to see wear. I would say the weakest link would be fill lines, buy good ones from reputable sources.
Best of luck.
BINGO unqualified users is the best way to say it. My first choice of words was too harsh, I didn't think "smooth brains" was super appropriate, but it's funny so I wrote it here.

Antifreeze in your pcp compressor?

True, but I remembered you were looking at the CS-4 . . .
Good memory.

I am looking at a few, and plan to buy something before or by end of the year.

GX CS4-I, E5K1 or a Legerro. I have all the pros and cons pretty well analyzed, just need to decide. Not in a huge hurry as long as my Dive Shop stays alive.

Thanks for the suggestions.

N/A  Aigunsmithing Tools - Advice and Suggestions

I have been racing RC cars for the last five years. If you want really good Allen wrenches and screw drivers that have replacement tips available it’s not a bad option. I am a tool freak and had separate tools for all my airguns and firearms. Now I am always raiding my RC tool kits for better tools than the gun stuff.

Compressor Safety

HPA is a very serious consideration. Small story.

At the range one day, got distracted talking to a "chatty Kathy' while filling my AG with the GW. Forgot to bleed the valve all the way or at all, and proceeded to remove it from AG, and fill whip wacked me very hard in my face, underneath my eye. Never made that mistake again. If someone is talking to me, I am not filling my gun. Lesson learned.
There's a lot of energy involved in even 1cc of air. I won't tell anybody complacency is ok, ive just been involved with hpa since it first showed up in paintball at 3k fill levels when the standard was co2. I didn't post why I was putting bottles in body armor for a reason. 😁 There's too many liability type people in forums.

Sorting and weighing pellets for vertical accuracy improvement:

IF you think it's an advantage, then it is one.

Your gun will tell you if its worth it or not.......
OP here; In my case, apparently there is some advantage to sorting...Note...I don't waste targets!!! Correction..I remeasured the distance from muzzle to target and it is 36yds, not 40yds as mentioned in post #1. Same sandbagged bench, 6x scope and my 2012 manufactured Diana 48 with PG4 Vortek Tune. And using the same .177 JSB Diablo Exact 13.43 pellets (not the "Redesigned")

At center is an "original example" of "un-sorted" pellets; a typical 1-1/2" to 1-3/4" vertical spread what I was trying to correct with sorting.
After sorting:
At 9 o'clock is the 11% mentioned.
At 3 o'clock is the 29% mentioned.
At 6 o'clock is the 56% mentioned. Still a small amount of vertical spread, but very tight.
Thanks!

Beeman  Beeman Raider

Finally finished the 3 Raiders with carbon fiber shrouds. Waiting on a new chrony as my cheap China barrel mounted took a dump. Will post some numbers after getting chrony. I adjusted all 3 to eliminate as much hammer bounce as I could.

Sorry if you answered already. Could you link the carbon fiber shrouds you purchased?
