Tuning  Crowning your barrel

The main idea of crowning is to make it so the gases exit evenly around the projectile. As long as that happens, the "shape" of the crown, whether round, flat, tapered, doesn't seem to matter much. I've used different crowns on both rifles and hanguns. Another thing to consider is how to "shield" the crown from damage, For example the "target crown" on some barrels is a counter-bore, so if the edge of the barrel is nicked, it doesn't touch or affect the crown. I've taken the time to crown/recrown hunting rifle barrels for customers only to watch them place them in their trucks barrel nose down on a dirt-covered floor board. I wonder why the accuracy diminishes over time!

HW/Weihrauch  I have my HW50 tuned great,at first I hated it because it did not perform the way people were bragging about it.

I de-tuned my HW95(R9) down to 12 fpe with a Vortek kit, and now it shoots with all the pleasant characteristics that we all strive for.
Mine was awful so it went back under warranty and came back smooth as glass.
The tech said that he polished and lubed the internals.

Karma  AEAC Video Review & Owner's Guide - NEW Karma Red Panda .30 (100 Yards Tested x8) FULL REVIEW + 100 FPE Custom Tune - "2025 Spec" Airgun

Thanks for your phenomenal video.

I'm experiencing a challenge with my Red Panda (latest version) and was hoping you could help.

While the Panda is amazingly accurate, I don't have the velocity consistency over the considerable number of shots that you have demonstrated in your video.

I'm shooting .22 pellets - JTS 22.07. The first regulator was set at 2900 psi with 4,000 psi in the cylinder. After tuning, I have the second regulator set at around 1200. The hammer spring is set at the second notch and the transfer port is set 5 lines down from max.

The fps is in the 970 range and the sd remains tight (2.27) until about 33 shots, and then the fps begins to fall off.

The cylinder pressure drops to around 2,100 after 53 shots - way above the regulator pressure of 1200 psi. Im using roughly 33 psi (2.28 bar) per shot.

Any suggestions? Is this to be expected, or am I doing something incorrectly? If this is normal, I can certainly live with it.

Your expert advice would be greatly appreciated.

Again, congratulations for another great video.

New to AGN

Hey all! I’m John and fairly new to pcp. Went a little crazy and picked up an Uragan 3 in 177 to shoot in HFT. Located in the Bay Area, I’ll hopefully be visiting Diablo after I get my rig tuned below 20fpe. Happy shooting!
Welcome, and congratulations on your new rifle! AGT makes very nice airguns.

FX  FX Maverick 30

I think the previous owner tried to modify this rifle to shoot slugs and got frustrated with it and sold it. FX rifles come from the factory set up to shoot pellets and they do that well. Slugs are a different animal requiring boosting power to shoot slugs at a higher velocity (not always), different barrel twists rate, probes, and other power boosting mods. You will likely have to experiment with slugs of various weights, diameters, and manufacturers to find the right one. In essence, it’s a different gun. Why? Some think they are more accurate, better killers or? Pellets shoot well up to 100 yards. I tried them in a number of my rifles and was never really satisfied with any of them except my HM1000x in .177 caliber that I had custom built for that purpose. I suggest returning your rifle back to its original configuration and enjoy shooting it with pellets. Or, if you enjoy tinkering, have fun.

Tuning  Crowning your barrel

Would just like to know how many of you have crown your own barrel or barrels? as soon as my orders come in i will be doing so on my Airforce Texan .308 and AEA big bore challenger 357,
Essential Tools & Supplies for Barrel Crowning
1. Brass Self-Centering Lap (Brownells)

.30 cal: Brownells Brass Lap – .30 Caliber

.357 cal: Brownells Brass Lap – .38/.357 Caliber

Price: ~$13–15 each

These are bore-piloted and self-centering—perfect for my Texan and Challenger.

2. Lapping Compound

M*CARBO 180 Grit Silicon Carbide Compound

Price: ~$10

Comes with a small brass lap too (45°), but i will mainly use the compound with your Brownells laps.

3. Drill (Cordless or Low-Speed

4. Cleaning Supplies

Cotton patches, Q-tips, and a bore plug (tight patch or foam earplug) to keep compound out of the barrel.

5. Vise with Soft Jaws

Compound: ~$10
I'd order the tool from brownells with the guide tip and not use a cordless drill. I just crowned a few crosmans last week in the lathe and I've done pb.... In a lathe.

Antifreeze in your pcp compressor?

The other thing you could do (outside the box thinking here) is store it in the garage in a way that it can't freeze. One thought is to keep it in a cooler, and take it out when you go to run it. It also would keep it nice and clean and prevent any bugs or spiders from getting into it when not in use.

I'm in Michigan and keep beverages in a good cooler in the garage throughout the winter, and our garage often falls below freezing. It is never an issue except when those "polar vortices" hit, usually once per winter - then I have to bring them inside for a few days or they will eventually freeze as the garage gets down to close to single digits then. In your case, the inside of the cooler will never get below freezing since the garage ends up not being below freezing except transiently.

First day with slugs!

Its perfect. Unless something goes wrong I wont touch the reg settings or Change the ammo. These Zan 25.5gr are instakill inside the diatances I shot.
This is the truth, this is the way.

The barrels on these AGT Uragans pack slugs in so damn tight. They're the best (IMO)

which bore diameter are you shooting?

Daystate  Tuning the Delta Wolf

Well, I don't know what i was doing the other day. (Quit smoking Crack 40 years ago lol), but started playing around yesterday with the Delta Wolf and all's fine! Nice rifle but think I'm sticking with the Krait. Might have been just a low battery? But all I know is it works just fine.
