GX CS2 cylinder head getting hot. Do I care?

When I fill up my Avenger from depressurized to 4K psi, the cylinder head on my CS2 gets hot. Not just warm, but uncomfortably hot. The pump doesn't sound like it's laboring, the fans are running, everything looks okay. Should I be concerned?
Uncomfortably hot, is quite subjective. Any idea as to the temperature? My CS1 clone's maximum operating temperature is 90C /212 F which is burning the skin temperature. My liquid cooled New Warrior (uses a Yong Heng compressor internally) maximum temperature is 85 C/185F. Perhaps some of those numbers will be useful? FWIW, the CS3 is your CS2 in a more elaborate case, with pressure cutoff gauge.

I keep thinking of installing a temperature gauge or thermal cut-off on my CS3 but feeling the exhaust air temperature seems to be sufficient.

Caldwell Precision Turret

If you use it for hunting (as you are) I think your mod is a very nice one! But if you use it to ‘benchrest’, then I think the stock version works better, as one uses the wheel and the support that controls the elevation on the backlegs (which you removed) as if it were a rear monopod.

Arca Mod vs. Stock Clamp Setup: Precision, Safety, and Field Flow

Whether you're shooting from a blind or locking in from the bench, the way your rifle interfaces with support gear makes or breaks the experience. Here's how a custom Arca rail mount outperforms clamp-style stock setups in every real-world category.

🔄 Setup Comparison: Field & Bench Tested

AspectStock Clamp SetupArca Rail Mod (Custom)
Mounting SurfaceDirect clamping around barrel or air tube (risky!)Anchors to flat, reinforced rail—zero pressure zone contact
Tube Integrity⚠️ High deformation risk—especially on under-barrel air reservoirsPreserves all pressure zones; protects critical components
Barrel HarmonicsCan flex or choke barrel, degrading group consistencyFree-floating preserved; stable and repeatable POI
Field UseProne to noise, slippage, setup fuss in blind conditionsFast deployment, silent handling, modular layout flexibility
Bench ShootingLimited fine-tune adjustment, possible wobblePrecise load balancing—works seamlessly with rear bag
Rear Bag CompatibilityBag often fights clamp geometry, reducing stabilityArca setup complements rear bag for rock-solid lockup
Upgrade PathFixed, risky mod zoneModular—expand with bipods, tripods, rail accessories

🛡️ Safety Isn’t Optional—It’s Foundational

The stock clamp’s biggest flaw isn’t just poor ergonomics—it puts critical components at risk. For rifles with under-barrel air cylinders, even “light” clamping can cause:

  • Tube deformation
  • Seal misalignment
  • Regulator/interference
  • Invisible fatigue across sessions
The Arca mod eliminates these risks by respecting the rifle’s architecture. Plus, it integrates naturally with rear bag support—giving you full-length stabilization without adding pressure to parts that weren’t built to bear it.

Athlon Ares ETR UHG 3-18x50 34 MM Mrad in FFP with IR

I've been trying out this scope too, for HFT. The image quality is a full grade better than the Ares BTR 2.5-15x50 scope. Build quality is similar, being exceptional. The one thing I found when comparing the 2 scopes is that the range markings on the ETR (at 15X) are spaced MUCH CLOSER together between 10 - 20 yards, where ranging is more critical. The spacing between 35 - 55 yards is actually quite a bit more spread out than the BTR. At least to my eyes, the ETR is better for distance ranging but not is good for close up ranging. I still need to spend more time with the scope to see if the image quality makes up for the more difficult close up ranging.

Airforce  The Last Airgun Standing: Talon P in .25

I’ve finally simplified my air gun setup. The Talon P in .25 caliber is now my only air gun, and honestly, it’s all I really need.
I don’t get out in the field as much as I used to, so when I do, I want something reliable, compact, and effective. The Talon P checks all those boxes. Its small 200cc tank only fills to 2400 PSI, which means I don’t need a massive support system to keep it running. An 18 cu ft tank and a GX compressor are more than enough to keep me topped off, even in the field. .25 cal is, in my opinion, the sweet spot for ground squirrels and small game. And just in case the air gun ever acts up, I always bring a rimfire along as a backup to keep the hunt going. I kind of always knew I’d end up here—parting ways with all the other gear and just keeping the one air gun that really works for me. No more 74 cu ft tanks, no more unnecessary gear. Just a reliable setup that lets me focus on the hunt. Less is more these days. And the Talon P gets it done.

Beeman  Beeman R-7 .20 cal rebuild….. results….?

Well there is the 70+ fps I was looking for. I didn’t size the seal. But the cocking effort feels tha same from the old spring to the new vortek spring. Maybe after 500-1000 shots it will pick up a few fps. But I’m not sure it will.
It may get 10 fps. But it sure is hell is not gonna get 70. If the seals snug. Was the Vac seal snug?
It needs to be on the fine line to get the most of the tiny 25 mm short stroke.

HW/Weihrauch  HW35E-Great Rifle

I found a HW35 with the old style stock used at AoA a couple of years after the new style came out. No idea what spring is in it, but the way it shoots I can't understand why anyone got rid of it. I know I never will.
They come from the factory at 12 fpe. Due to the nature of their design, they can’t make much more. I tuned my HW95 and Tx200 to that level. They are much more pleasant to shoot.

I’ve got a R-7 .20 with a Vortek pg4 and it’s a hammer. Seal sizing is key with them as well as lube removal in the inner springs. That being said it is a tad snappy , there is immediate pre load at barrel break when loading.
550 fps with 11.4 Ftt.

New squirrel feeder = busy backyard

View attachment 582341
Yeah, basically to keep the squirrels hanging around for October and feed the birds a little. Why 50 yards? Well mostly because I can slip out the back door without scaring them off and at 50 you can’t miss from a rest.

I’m next door in Louisiana, crows are smart all over. The first one was on the ground by the feeder, when I shot him the rest flew up in the trees. I had taken my Krait out of the safe from 74 degrees in the house to a humid 84 and, of course, my scope started sweating and fogging up. I was standing behind my wood rack and they couldn’t figure out where I was. I managed to find one amongst all the leaves on the trees and nailed him. At this point I figured it was all over but they just kept calling out so I just waited and wiped the lenses on my scope. I figured out where another one was and shot him, three on the ground. They all flew off but one landed in the top of a dead tree at about 70 yards and I was able to put one in him. It surprised me too that I was able to get four, I’m guessing since my Krait is pretty quiet and they couldn’t figure out where it was coming from, their curiosity got the better of them. Anyway it was a fun 5 minutes.
That's good shooting , best I ever got was 3 w/ my Kral NP03 .22. I've gotten 2 several times w/ higher powered guns out of tall trees at 50+ yards . I think most times they lose sight of their comrades & hang around looking for them, unless they squawk when hit. Then it's a different ball game !

Springer vs. PCP

First off, hello. I am a new member. I have experience with firearms. I am getting my youngest ready for his first big game hunting season. Logistically, it is a pain in the butt to pack up all the gear and head to the range or find a safe place on USFS land to shoot. Then I thought, I'll just get an air gun we can shoot in the back yard to practice the fundamentals and then get some trigger time on the hunting rifles. That though hatched 2 days ago, and I have spent WAY too much time with my face buried in a screen since then. I have paralysis by analysis.

My question is, for mostly plinking, and some occasional hunting (squirrel sized or smaller), what is the best choice for me? I had decided a scoped Diana 34 .22 (hopefully used) then I started looking at PCPs. Reference the PCPs, I try to be a minimalist (unsuccessfully) and do not like starting a new hobby that is gear intensive. My garage is stuffed to the gills with my current hobbies. I love the simplicity of the springers. Rifle, pellets, and all the benchrest supplies and firearm maintenance tools I already have. With a little luck I am hoping to buy someone's retired Diana 34 that is already scoped so that we can start plinking right away because fall is coming fast! The idea (and expense) of buying a PCP, compressor, and managing the fittings, etc. seems overwhelming to me.

So... is a springer the right choice for me or am I missing out on a MUCH better shooting experience by not going with a PCP?
I've had springers for ever, still have my first one from about 70 years ago, and when I decided to get a step up from my Webley Viscount, I bought a new Diana 470TH, but the cocking each time and single loading became really, really old. I bought a Diana Stormrider .22 and hand pump, which was far better, I've progressed through a bunch of PCPs, Yong Heng compressors and SCBA tank, until I gave up on that and now use a GX CS3 at the range. Two FX Streamlines, FX DRS, AA S510, Umarex Gauntlet .22s, shooting pellets out to 160 meters.

Great fun.

Edit: I should have mentioned that I shoot for about 6 hours, continually, once per week, with 80 mile round trip. I shoot from 500-1,000 pellets in a day, switching guns with the last one on the compressor. Very different practice than many.
