Question about Atlon radar chrono

Hi Bob,

I’ve been getting great results using the original FX Radar with this little stand.

The stand is from a $30 AliExpress digital level (with lasers, lol) - I also recommend for scope leveling. Its threaded for one of the two standard photo tripod mounts - the smaller one.

I got a 3D printed replacement bottom for the FX Chrono on eBay - $15.

The little stand tilts - so you can quickly adjust to height pellet is flying.

As you know, the FX Radar app displays on your phone - you can even configure to say the velocity readings out loud.

Before I got this little stand (by accident - it was a throw in with the digital level), I hardly ever used my FX Chrono - as positioning was a bitch.

Since I tried it on this little plastic $3 stand, it rarely misses a shot. I use it all the time now - with PowerOwl rechargeable batteries.

It was dumb luck finding this little stand that works so well, but thought I’d share so that others can benefit. Stand base also fits perfectly on top of a pellet can, if you need to raise the height.

I just found this on AliExpress: $30 | New laser level goniometer, casting instrument, measuring tool, protractor, digital inclinometer, construction tool, angle ruler

Replacement base for tripod use:

FX  Wildcat MK3 BT Random FPS Drop in Shot String (Update Post #16- 4/12/24)

Sounds about right where I am. My second reg runs 115-117 and I get right about 900 with 44.75 and 870 with 50 gr. Very good spreads. I get a bit of fluctuation on first shot after sitting but it’s within 10-12 fps tolerable for now anyway. I have a digital gauge on it and the reg always goes to 122-123 bar after sitting. I’ve personally never owned an amp reg that didn’t do this other than maybe when it was brand new, like never had a shot fired through it. lol. 5 minutes later it has the 5-8 bar creep.
Mine creeps up 2-3 bars as well. However, for some reason, the first shot is not slow anymore. It was an issue for quite a while but the last time I tuned this gun a couple of months ago, it somehow got rid of the slow first shot. I am taking a guess here but I think the HS and regulator has hit a balance. Even when the reg creeps up a couple of bars, the HS tuning and hammer strike is in such a balance that it over comes the higher reg and still gets me the first shot FPS that I am expecting. But that is just a guess at this point and nothing scientific.

FX  FX King @ 100yds

In the last couple trips to the range I have been comparing my 22cal FX King to my accurized 10/22. It kept up with the rimfire performance until 100 yds. It did get a bit breezy by the time I got out to 100yds. Though I am not displeased, I feel better groups can be achieved. I had the gun tuned by Justin W. In Arvin Ca. to shoot 34gr slugs 970fps. The ammo I’m using now is H&N precision 33gr/.218 slugs. Any suggestions on improving my 100yd groups would be gladly accepted.

You can do it, the rimfire leans on its velocity. You'll have to be more particular about when you squeeze a shot off I think but you should be able to halve that group size.

FX  Wildcat MK3 BT Random FPS Drop in Shot String (Update Post #16- 4/12/24)

I'm going to try adjust the timing on mine again and see if it changes. I attempted this months ago and thought it was all set correctly, but nothing changed in the shot string. Maybe I wasn't holding it far enough forward when tightening it back down?? No idea. While I am for the most part mechanically inclined, I'm also new to tinkering with airguns.
Yes, give it another shot and make sure it is set forward. Use blue Loctite on the grub screws because they will become loose and slip otherwise. Good luck!

Tuning  Pinty tune Question

You are on the right track, but you can approach it as more of a cookbook recipe by lowering the regulator a bit and then dial the hammer spring tension to the velocity knee (95-97% of the maximum velocity).

Huben  GK1 Pellet size

I have written in other threads about this subject. On my .25 GK1s, I have both a Gen 1 and a Gen 3, both have a magazine bore of exactly .250" measured with precision pins. The pellet retention mechanism is a light chamfer at the mouth of each mag bore. This chamfer is designed to hold the oversize pellet skirt, which is .010" larger than the pellet head at .260". This prevents the pellet from shifting forward in the magazine causing jams. All the JSB pellets work flawlessly in this manor. I recently shot two tins of H&N pellets and the skirt diameter was small and allowed the pellets to shift forward and jam. So beware. always check your chosen pellet's skirt size before buying too many. I have not tested other brands, so that is on you. I shoot the 25.4 gr pellets because they are very accurate and less expensive than the heavier 33.9 gr size.

30-Yard Challenge

I shot another 30 yard challenge target today. I got better paper at 65 lbs and it worked in my printer. There was a slight cross wind, but I played the dead wind condition on most shots. I had my best groups last week in testing with the AEA 25.3 grain pellets. I shot a horrible target last week with them and wrote them off. I shot another 5 shot group and it was great, so I gave them a "shot" today. I am glad I did. I broke the 190 goal I had!!! New to me BRK Sniper Sahara .25/ Athlon Heras 15-60x56 AEA 25.3gr pellets at 870 fps. I used 60 power on the scope and played the mirage too. I re-ranged the target and I am closer to 32 yards..ohh well.

What should my next goal be???

HW/Weihrauch  Twenty dimes! 177 Hw95 remains King.

Late to comment here, but I think one thing that needs to be brought to market is an HW97 with an adjustable butt pad and comb like the HW98 has. I can't understand why the one and not the other. I've seen a few 98's come and go through ranks of FT shooters, but there are always a few 97's, often with $500 after market stocks because the factory stock doesn't meet shooters' needs.

Other  American made springers

Are there any American made springers worth 2 cents any more ? I have introduced a friend to this hobby recently, and he asked for referrals of something made in the states in the 400-500$ range. I'm drawing a blank. I have two Sig ASP20 rifles that we spent all afternoon and evening in friendly competition. He fell in love with those, but obviously they are no longer available, and I am NOT selling mine. Suggestions of any USA made springers that still have some quality ???
Unfortunately not. The best choice for a 400-500$ rifle would be a Weihrauch. Buy once, cry once.
