Pellet Testing?

Thanks for the feedback. 20 plus years ago when I got into PCP airguns BAM 50 that started life as a 177 and the got rebarreled to 25 and I shot H&N pellets from it with decent accuracy. I don't remember there being a very large selection of pellet brands as compared to today's air gun world. So far what I have been doing is shooting about 3-4 pellets to foul the bore for that brand of pellet and then shooting for accuracy.

Snowpeak  Snowpeak M60B regulator

Is the symptom that the plenum pressure is climbing to the same pressure as the bottle?

If so, the O-ring on the regulator's adjustment screw needs replacing. The Snowpeak regulator probably looks different than this example, but the adjuster is the brass piece on the bottom right.

I saw in another thread the top ring is close to a 7x1.5 , I figure the lower ones are close to that. There's also some kits on Amazon but I'm not entirely sure of the size needed. Do you have any idea if there's any verified info on that? Ordering the replacement seals from Canada will take weeks at best.

Interesting side note, while the bottle was pressurized I'd guess there was more air in the plenum than it liked because the seal under the side gauge gave up and blew all the air out while the rifle was sitting.

I have to ask; When you are shooting for accuracy

Normally I’m shooting to see what the weapon can do. This would be from a bench from steadiest rest possible. If I’m practicing to improve my own skills (which I do often) I always shoot free hand or off hand , from no bench is what I mean, and I practice from multiple stances just to sort of maintain my own personal shooting skills. I use a paper type target when shooting to see what the weapon is capable of. I have a homemade frame to hold 3 eight inch steel gong type targets to shoot at when I shoot free hand for practice.
I made a gong with a hole in it smaller than a turkey head with a hardened bar behind the hole that makes a totally different musical note of you hit it. It's enough to remain fun and not change paper and still know you're doing what you need of you want to head shot a turkey or most rodents above a chipmunk or mouse(works for body shots on those). Otherwise I shoot paper indoors for fun in the shop building before I work 5 days a week to keep the guns moving and my familiarity up.

FX  Newbie Caliber Question

I have found that using bait really helps with my kill ratio. I use cat food, peanut butter or even salted peanuts. They go into a static mode while feeding and it gives me a chance for a humane shot.
Me and my hunting partner too. Various baits and trap typew along with many nights sitting and waiting for a shot. Those butter cookies companies give out at Christmas with sugar on top in a blue tin work amazingly combined with peanut butter. It's the best bait I've used for our area along with cat food.

Raccoon Pellet Choice/Tune (vs plinking)

I've killed two raccoons, both small ones, under 10 lbs. I shot the first three times with my P35-22 using 21 grain Baracudas going about 825 fps (32 fpe). First shot went into the chest and got it's attention but it was sitting and hissing at me and my dog. A shot between the eyes stopped the nonsense but it's heart was still beating so I put one in the neck and it bled out. For the next one I used my P35-25 shooting 34 grain JSBs a little under 800 fps. One between the eyes dropped it. No evidence of life.

I've also tested penetration of 25 grain and 34 grain JSB pellets in wet paper (reasonable simulation of muscle tissue). 34s definitely penetrate deeper. I would test them for accuracy in your gun (my old full length Avenger likes them) and if they are accurate switch. FX are usually a little cheaper and effectively the same thing. If your barrel does not like them I think the 25 caliber H&N Baracuda is 31 grains and should also penetrate further. There are also other 34 grain pellets.

Better placement would definitely help but I think more penetration would too and is easier to make sure happens. I would not switch to any sort of expanding projectile because in my opinion you need all the penetration you can get. Any expansion will reduce penetration.

Shooting Airgun in residential neighbourhood

I live in a residential area in southeastern Wisconsin. Neighbours surrounding all angles of my house. Is it legal to shoot at .25 grain PCP air rifle in my neighbourhood?
In Florissant Mo. It's illegal, and is considering a discharge of a weapon.

Around here the standard rule is not let the projectile leave the boundaries of your property. Other than that, common sense rules.
One of the first things that should be taught and learned about gun safety of any kind is to know where your projectile is going.. what lies beyond your intended target. Generally if it can happen it will happen eventually.

My guess is no, not legal, but check the local regs. My situation is similar, and air rifles are now considered same as firearms. I think this will be universal soon. And from a practical, public safety perspective, given the increasing demand for air power, it probably makes sense. That said, I shoot routinely in the yard and have had no issues. The important factor is your neighbors. It is unlikely that law enforcement will ever be involved, unless a complaint is lodged. I talked to my neighbors, not knowing it was illegal at the time, and they are fine with it.

A good rule of thumb is to call your local sherrif or police department and ask to speak to a officer. They are the ones who will respond when some karen calls you in. Between ignorance and legal there is a big difference depending on your area you live in. A good cop having a bad day can wreck yours. A bad cop on a good day will aquire all your shooting stuff. Me personaly i would make a phone call and ask.
also don't use a land line to make the call LOL

I agree in general though. Depending on your community it may be a thin line between a warning and citation. Our cops have meth heads and drunks to contend w so have more important things to do than deal w me, an otherwise law abiding citizen. FWIW I shoot into my garage from the driveway, so that's my backstop.

Personally I think caliber (big bores aside) is a moot point as long as you're shooting safely (whatever that may entail) For myself, I shoot my 25s into cardboard sandwiches at home and there is zero pass thru. A sheet of 3/4" OSB behind it would be impossible to penetrate w any airgun.

Springer vs. PCP

Jonnes,

Those are great targets from your PCP, especially for initial efforts. Better than anything I've shot this year. Both are 200s. There are 24 targets and you get to throw out two sets of two. So you have plenty of 10s remaining to score a 200. You should put them on the thread and let Ed add them to the spreadsheet. There are not a whole lot of 200s. Great shooting.

I know what you mean about scopes. I do not often use a scope with less than 24X magnification for this.

You can clearly shoot better than I can. I will be interested in how much a different scope improves your springer score. I'm confident it will improve.

New to Me Chinese Air Rifle

Hello,
I still do have mine and shoot it ever so often. I did remove the rear sights as seen in the pictures as my eyes require a scope to be mounted.
I find this rifle to be surprisingly accurate. I tried a few different pellets, and this rifle seems to like the Crosman Domed Ultra Magnum 10.5 GR.
I still have no idea what the button on the bottom of the fore grip is for. See pictures. I think it should have something to do with the bear trap mechanism, but this button does absolutely nothing whether it is depressed or not, and the gun cocks and shoots fine either way.
Does your rifle have this button? Does it do anything?
There is a lot of information on this bear trap mechanism about sticking your fingers in the loading area. Be careful on this. I have never had an issue but never say never. I keep my fingers out of there and load it with a large bent nose tweezers and that works well.
I tried to get some information on a date made but could not find much.
Is yours a side lever cocking like mine?
My wood is in very good condition and the grain is also not too bad.
Could you please post some pictures for us to see? That would be helpful. Maybe that way others may give us some more information on these guns.
ENJOY!!
Hello, thanks for your response!
Mine is almost the same than yours: side lever, bottom button... the two differences I've found, based on your pics: safe on the trigger guard and origin engraved, Made in China, instead of Made in Shanghai.

The button in the bottom seems to be a safe to prevent the bear trap to activate by accident, but also seems to have failed and has a "premature" wearing, as the rest of the gun looks to be working well.

No idea regarding the manufacturing dates.

I'm also wondering how to disassemble to have abetter maintenance.

I only have shot Daisy Pointed Prescision Max, an works very well in short (10m). When I test in longer distances will add a comment.
