What pistol did you shoot today

I just go in my 2nd Crosman # 38T In .177 cal delivered today…It’s like new in the box..original price tag was $29.47 in September 1976…still has the tag on the grip handle looks like it was shot a couple of time and then put away..wished they still had the paperwork for it.. I am hoping it still holds air.. I ordered a couple of kits just to have in the future days…as I suspected it needs a complete reseal job …looks like it will be a few more weeks to see how it shoots

FX  Newbie Caliber Question

Ammo is whatever your gun prefers. I hunt exclusively with simple domed pellets, I do not think "hunting" pellets are necessary or even helpful. But if your gun likes them and they penetrate far enough I would use them.

Unless you want to be able to kill larger animals than iguanas I would get the 22. Less air, usually cheaper ammo, less noise. I see people taking them with Prods, that is less than 20 fpe. Also little Brococks with short barrels. Range is apparently not long. I'm not saying that low powered 22s are ideal but if you shoot a lot around people they might be. In wide open spaces I would probably use 30 fpe or so in a 22.

Which pellet depends on what your gun likes. I was pleasantly surprised to learn my Bullshark in 22 likes Crosmans. It also likes H&N 18 and 21 grain and several weights of JSBs, however. It is not very picky. But other guns I own seem to only really like a single pellet. Most of my guns seem to prefer H&N or JSB (with more liking H&N) but I don't test other brands a lot. If you can find a sampler you can save some money but I don't think there is a good way to find out what shoots best in a gun than to try a bunch of pellets.
I agree, with a couple caveats. Expanding ammo can help dump more energy and therefore control over penetration/pass thru (why I cant shoot my .22 34gr slugs and the impact hardly anywhere they whistle off into Narnia every time @75fpe) but expanding ammo also cause more tissue damage and bleed out on a less favorable shot. That said, if theyre not accurate, terminal performance doesn't matter in the least.

Domes at the right speed do deform and expend energy too, but it took 12 jsb 18s at 900fps from 10 feet away in a skunks head and vitals to get it to shut off. I had time to mag change and use hybrid slugs at the heart and lungs that really shut it off fast. (semi auto gun, so this was in a matter of seconds)

The neighborhood stunk for a week as he had his head in a trap that didn't break his neck. It was a great birthday present. No bbq for me 😂😂😂

Utah Airguns

AHH , the Can Am Spyder enabler ! I've been tempted to test ride one ever since they came out. I've stayed away from doing so for fear of riding it home !!
I deleted my 'cycle endorsement on licence renewal to curb that 🙄. Airguns get me in enough trouble ( just ordered another Katran yesterday) !!
I had 2 spinal fusions in 2012 and 2013 and gave up my beloved BMW F650GS because I could no longer trust my right leg to hold up the bike. I didn't ride for 4 years and just couldn't stand it any more so I bought the Spyder. It's not nearly as much fun as the BMW but it keeps wind on my helmet.

Have you found that “ One Airgun”?

there is no "the one" because I've discovered too many uses and one can't cover them all

A friend that never hesitates to buy new guns likes to tell me "what do you need that for?", or "you don't need that" when I'm considering a new gun. My response is always the same- "The only time you 'need' a gun is when coming under attack. I WANT this gun because I WANT a new toy." After all, no-one that reads this needs a new gun.

BTW, you know the individual mentioned above that never 'gets it', but never hesitates to GET IT when he WANTS a new gun. MoF, you beat him in a shoot-off at my place.

Also MoF, I'm about to email him the image below in order to rub his nose in the fact I just ordered a new gun that has virtually NO purpose(s); like most guns, it's just a toy. Because he NEEDS more aggravation, and I'm the right guy to provide him that NEED.

Raccoon Pellet Choice/Tune (vs plinking)

Looks like the "Stinky Kitty" is contained. Not dead? I use No.3 Conibears for Ghogs where I can't shoot w/ anything. The Farmer knows where & approves !
I don't have to deal with raccoons , thankfully. Did plenty of that at home years ago when the sweet corn was coming on & dealt with a ( presumed ) rabid
'coon once as a young man one afternoon that was headed toward the chicken coop. A learning experience for sure😲 !!
Smelly cat didn't make it, the trap made him sleepy

N/A  Crosman 140,Fourth Variant?

First, Im, new here, great forum. Ive have always lurked.
I ran across a Crosman 140,no spoon and has cast trigger,so from what i find, maybe a fourth variant.
It isnt pretty but it doesnt look bad,it will not hold air.
I have never worked on firearms, but I have rebuilt small engines and other mechanical things. Just curious if I should undertake this or find an air rifle gunsmith. I also want to reblue it, and even tho stock looks rough, I may just put a new finish on it,no heavy sanding.
Is it possible to get a peep site on it , also??
Ive done a few searches and found good info on this site and even a You Tube showing someone repairing a 140.
I would really like talk with someone on this if possible.
Thanks,
John

Garmin vs Athlon Chrony

I agree, the Garmin app is just right. I've had the Garmin for quite a while, shot literally thousands of rounds over it and in all that time I think it missed one shot a long time ago that I couldn't explain. It is unbelievably reliable.
I used to hate getting everything ready to shoot over my old chrony and then have to fiddle with position, lighting, shooting at just the right spot, blah, blah, blah. Now the Garmin is never a consideration, it just works.

Diana  Winchester Mod 450 / Diana Mod 50 refresh.

Besides the Diana 50, the Falke 80/90, various Airsporters and the Anschutz LG54 are there any other underlever tap loaders you folks know of?
The Falke seems a copy of the prewar design Airsporter; is the Diana 50 a copy of the Anschutz LG54, something else, or vice versa?
Then there's the Diana model 58...

Karma  Karma EQ in pieces..

I did get the reg apart, cleaned, polished...no more creep, solid from 1000 to 3000. I should get my Reg Butter soon. The washer stack requires a spanner screwdriver...which also should be here soon.

Still chasing velocity issues. At 1800psi reg (4300 cyl), I got just over 700fps with AEA 33.9g pellets. I went up in 200psi reg steps and at 3000psi, only 840fps! Transfer port verified wide open, ran the hammer spring thru its range...only velocity loss.

Am pulling the valve body today. There's gotta be a restriction somewhere.

Other  Why so many .25 cal. for sale?

I am punching paper rings only, shooting slugs for that game would be a big waste of effort and money.
I am using my .25 for 100 meters BR, and comparing to my other .22 gun which can perform in a same MOA precision up to 70-80 meters only. These with pellets widely available off the shelf.
The pellets are the limitation.
If we would be looking for best overall amo performance at these 100 meter distance,
the .30 cal heavy pellets or .22 heaviest slugs wins.
In the eyes of a competition shooter. And most of the past .25 cal buyers chasing now the latest and greatest.
For me, I still like the .25 as a good walk around platform.

Before WW2, just about every quality manufacturer had these as their top-of-the-line models! Many sizes, stock configurations, and etc., and yes all were copies of the early BSA / Lincoln Jeffries design to some extent. The post-war Airsporter is actually quite different from these BTW.

The D50, Falke 80/90, and BSF S54 were the "big three" German post-war underlevers. The LG 54 is a rare "civvie" version of the famous Hakim trainer for the Egyptian military.

The D50 appears to be a fairly clean-sheet-of-paper design - the cocking linkage, ball-sear trigger, and use of heavy stamped parts sets it apart from its contemporaries. The pre-war DIana 30 military trainer has some similar details but was, I think, a bit smaller (the rare post-war Milbro G55 may be a more direct descendant).

Another interesting design is the "Tornado" manufactured in Hungary by FEG, sold under the "Relum" and "Telly" names. Made in two different sizes and at one point marketed heavily in the UK. A rather bizarre reincarnation of these was the "Mauser 300SL," marketed as a match rifle in the 90's!

The big 'un you left out was the Airsporter's rival: the immortal Webley Mk 3. In contrast to the BSA's innovative new cocking linkage, etc., it was a nearly dead-nuts copy of the pre-war Diana model 45, and was manufactured from the late 40's to the mid 70's. The things were so well-made that, judging how much they are discessed on UK forums anyhow, most of them are still around.
