Can you recommend an informative, comprehensive and well written text book on air rifle shooting?

I'm not sure exactly why but so many books and texts bring me joy, if only just to handle them, look at them on my shelf, read them( sometimes over and over). Sharing them with family and friends brings yet another source of joy and disappointment as some tend to disappear into the ether...

The most gratifying and flattering feedback I've gotten on my books were "Started reading your book last night in bed, and couldn't stop till I'd read the whole thing", and "I've read it six times already; my wife thinks I'm crazy".

Unfortunately my books only scratch the surfaces of the whole gamut. Writing another that covers the whole gamut would take the rest of my life... then only if live longer than any human in history. Maybe I'll start if after finishing my perpetual motion machine, bringing about world peace, and figuring out what makes women tick.

Ring prices

I was just looking for some picatinny rings on PA and noticed some rings $150+, HOLY COW!, what in the world makes them so expensive? I normally use cheap pic rings and never had a problem, I was just wondering what in the world they do to rings to make them worth over $200! ???
Titanium and customer base. Everything for sale has a price audience in every bracket

FX  FX M4 owners, are they worth the cost?

I'm thinking about buying a FX M4 in .30 or .35 caliber for small game hunting and would love to get the thoughts of actual owners. Do you shoot slugs or pellets? How accurate is the rifle out to 150 yards? I've watched a few videos from Utah Air guns on prairie dogs hunts and they seem pretty awesome. Thanks for the input.

FX  Wildcat consistency problems

Yes, if I do need to use the screw and dial it in. That is next on the list. I had to mow all day, so the cuts into my shooting time, dang yard! But having an 8 acre range is pretty cool.
You haven’t been using the internal adjuster screw ?? If that is true you found the problem. That is 10000000000 % necessary in tuning that gun.

FX  Wildcat consistency problems

I'm still working on the WC, I found the plateau for the 18gr pellets. I'm now working on the 25gr JSB pellets and working up the same type of string. Life gets in the way and I have to do chores and I'll get back to it. I have some data, but I'll post it all at once this time.

I want to say a big thanks to all that helped me get on track!!!

Karma  Red Panda Air Gauges

Just ordered three of those gauges directly from Huma-Air at about the same price it would have been from HPP including shipping. Nice upgrade to the RP!
The Reg 2 location looked a little tight with the rail location, but the threads are long enough to stand out beyond the rail, regardless of which side you choose. I like that the pressure range on the Wika gauges allows you to use more of the needle sweep. With the stock ones, the tank gauge needle is only at half when the gun is filled, whereas with these it's using the full range.

Skout  Everything Skout EVO and Epoch

Well, everybody it’s time for a new post and update.
The small O-rings are used to fix the needle valve worked great and so far everything on that end has been working fantastic.

Now for the slightly not so fantastic. I have been still having issues with some point of impact shift and variation to my pellet velocity.
So I went hunting and found the leak at the rear of the gun where the plenum cap is located. I stuck this in in a clear container of water and then filmed it in slow motion and it’s actually leaking a substantial amount during each shot, causing my fluctuation in speed and probably pellet accuracy as well..

I find it strange they are not 2 spaced o-rings on this part instead of one.
The concerning part is that the O-ring I removed was in perfect shape with no nicks on it.
If any of you are getting a small puff of air by your face while shooting, this is probably where it’s leaking from.

What did you do airgun related today.

I got my 2240xl with some mods back in service with my Hawke fixed 4x. It’s ready for rodents and agamas. It’s been awhile since i shot CO2. I’d like to run it through a chrony string of a complete cartridge. It looks like a 12 year olds air rifle left out over night. But it is a rifle i loan out to friends with rodent or lizard problems.

I also replaced an oring in my modded dream Notos reg. Testing it overnight

Very nice, looks like a 2250. Love that BR folder, I may get one from Terry.

DNT Zulus 5-20 V2?

No way it will. I have a v1 and love it for hunting, almost too easy with it… that said, I catch myself thinking “ain’t no glass tho…” whenever I use it. The v2 would have to be lightyears ahead of the v1 to change that…
V2 still HD right not 4k? I have the old Sightmark Wraith HD and just got a mini Wraith 4k and the 4k image is a improvement over the HD...

Oldies at 100...

I got in some 100 yard practice today using my two "100 yard" rifles - both would be considered "oldies":
RTI Prophet Performance V1 - .25 LR barrel
FX Wildcat MK2 - .30 700mm barrel

I've been amazed at the results with the .25 Prophet and the AEA 29.5g.

I chronoed 50+ shots with the Prophet - the string was 902-912fps - pellets shot straight from the tin.

The wind was 8 mph with gusts to 16. I tried to be really patient and waited until my flags indicated "time to shot" on each shot. (wind speed low)
My range is at my brothers house - I shoot from an open area into the woods - so I use a flashlight to illuminate my targets.

Thoughts:
I'm just an enthusiast - not a competition shooter - so I'm happy with my results today.
It took about 3 hours to shoot 70 shots - lots of patience with the wind.
Shooting 100 yards is boring - constantly waiting and observing the wind - not enough shooting.
The velocity spreads on both rifles seems great - very tight by my standards.
The .30 caliber requires less hold off in the wind - but it recoils much more than the .25 caliber.

I validated a statement I made on another thread - that you are doing well at 100 yards if you can put 5 straight shots on a 2" splatter. I was able to do it, but its not that easy - at least not on my "range" and at my level of shooting. Try it - put up a 2" splatter at 100, take your sighters off target - then 5 straight at the 2" splatter - with no more sighters once you start - gotta read the wind after each shot and adjust. All the guys saying they shoot 1 MOA at 100... well, you are better than me.

I think I'd enjoy shooting at 100 yards a lot more if I could shoot indoors at that distance. I like being outdoors, but it requires so much patience and time to deal with the wind.

Skout  Skout Epoch tuning questions?

I’m assuming the second sound is from the pellet hitting the target? Are you just hearing the reg refill the plenum after the shot?
Yea maybe that’s it.
I also just discovered a big air leak that im sure is the culprit to my changes In pellet velocity.

I really feel that this part going into the Plenum needs two rings instead of just one since all of that pressure is pushing against a single small O-ring

What did you order / receive airgun related today? Thread

Order the Huma Power tune regulator w/extra large plenum for Stoeger Bullshark .25 cal. Also ordered the Huma Regulator Tester.
Their system automatically set the shipping to UPS Express Delivery to get it here before end of the week for $90 something. I'm not in that much of a hurry. Standard Delivery, though slower, for $40 is more budget friendly. Plus I'd rather spend my $$ on actual stuff verse delivery speed.
