RTI  .25 Mora and it’s first range trip

Nice & congrats!! Have fun with it, I’m loving mine (600mm .22 though). I only shot out to 70y so far in my backyard (with 34gr slugs, I know I know, never thought I’d shoot in my back with 70-80fpe slugs but the thing is just so damn good and fun…). Getting 1/2 inch or better consistently at 70y with it and honestly I think the gun could do even better (I can’t…). It’s not picky with slugs at all. Never tried pellets but may give it a go one of these days just to see.

As for the shroud, I have the same issue. I tried to get it off 2-3 times with a 6mm hex in the front and put as much force as I dared… like to the point that I got concerned to either break the end cap or bent the barrel… decided to wait for someone to figure it out and/or post a decent disassembly video :) I can rotate the CF tube by hand…

Results  DeSoto Airgunners (FL) BR Match Report for July 13, 2025 (Spoiler Alert 750/41x)

Posted by Gary P. for our Benchrest match director, Ron Z.

July 13 2025 Benchrest - a.k.a. Three - The Hard Way

If you have been following DeSoto Airgunners Summer Swelter Benchrest Series you'll note dramatic improvements and higher scores this season. Shooting a single perfect card (250 points) in a 3-card relay is always noteworthy. Last month Scott shot back to back perfect cards while Bob C. shot one. With three perfect cards in last month's event, the 2025 Summer Swelter Benchrest Series was off to a high scoring and competitive season.

Another three - The Hard Way.

Today's match saw another 3 perfect cards. Astoundingly, all three cards were shot by Chip W. 750 points and 41 X's ! Awesome. A phenomenal accomplishment. Chip was (obviously) our TOP GUN and X Prize celeb. He was on fire today. [Match Director will be submitting Chip's perfect card scores to USARB for posting on ScoreLine.]

Conditions

We were setup and on the benches very early. The cool(er) Summer morning was literally windless. Zero miles per hour officially recorded between 5:30 AM and 9:30 AM. More than a dozen idle windicators and flags spread across the range confirmed very still conditions. We had a couple 4 MPH puffs arrive near the conclusion of the third Target Card session in today's single relay. High clouds also kept temperatures tolerable during the event. All shooters were accommodated in a single relay.

It's always a thrill when we can host a new air rifle shooter. Lynn M., an accomplished firearm benchrest enthusiast drove some 4 hours from northern Florida to participate in today's air rifle match. He promised to return.

Our next match in the Summer Swelter Series will be a 25 Metre Benchrest event on Sunday August 10th.

Diana  Diana 54 air king pro 7.5J

I have a 7.5 J coming and I’d like to see if anyone has ever converted one to full power. From the very little information out there about the low power versions it looks like there’s more than likely a transfer port restriction in the form of a washer with a tiny hole ( 2mm or less) as an air passage and more than likely a weak spring in there. I’d like to hear first hand from someone that has gone down this road before.
I did send Hector an email asking about a short stroke piston but he didn’t seem certain as Diana uses all kinds of different methods to detune their rifles.
I have a Maccari spring , piston and breech seal coming from ARH and hoping I’m not missing anything.
I’d really like to get this rifle shooting close to 20 FPE as long as it likes the 10.3 JSB pellets.
This one came up on sale , brand new for 550$ snow pesos ( canadian dollar ) which I thought was a very good deal, considering there are some vendors still asking 1100$ for exact same rifle. So even after the extra parts and a bit of time I think I’m still way ahead ( if that even makes sense)

I was supposed to be downsizing my collection. Throw that plan right out the window. 😂

RTI  .25 Mora and it’s first range trip

And a couple with 33.9 grain JSB’s. Heading back to the range again tomorrow and plan to try a few more heavy 33.9 pellets. The MK II‘s look promising. Although the 29.5 AEA performed well in super calm conditions, they seem to move around more in the slightest amount of wind. The heavies might have more potential in the wind? Time and practice will tell.

I wasn’t shooting for score but just shooting groups to get a feel for the gun and a few different tunes.

Ring prices

I was just looking for some picatinny rings on PA and noticed some rings $150+, HOLY COW!, what in the world makes them so expensive? I normally use cheap pic rings and never had a problem, I was just wondering what in the world they do to rings to make them worth over $200! ???

Burris rings have moa adjustment inserts, often you run out of "up elevation" and would need to shim otherwise. I use a cheap Monstrum but wish I had Burris if I just had one airgun.

FX  FX M4 owners, are they worth the cost?

I'm thinking about buying a FX M4 in .30 or .35 caliber for small game hunting and would love to get the thoughts of actual owners. Do you shoot slugs or pellets? How accurate is the rifle out to 150 yards? I've watched a few videos from Utah Air guns on prairie dogs hunts and they seem pretty awesome. Thanks for the input.
Got one and love it. HOWEVER: it’s a tinkerer’s gun. And a temperamental one at that. She’s like the crazy/hot girlfriend that drives you nuts almost every day but boy oh boy is she a joy when she does not. I would never take her hunting though, she might shoot you in the shoulder just to see whether it’s funny or not. For hunting, you want the reliable girl you know since Pre-K, the one most moments feel like déjà vu with because she’s so predictable that you know exactly what she’s going to do next, every single time. Like an AGT (any) for example. There are also other FX that would be fine and many others if you are ok with carrying some weight around.

Also, you said “small game”. What do you plan on hunting exactly? A .30/.35 would be overkill for squirrels and a couple of bunnies ;)

N/A  High shot count .177s?

I have .25 stuff covered well, and I think I have .22 down well enough at the moment (that can always change though, lol). But I’m considering a .177 PCP purely to have something with a high shot count per fill (200+). I realize shot count varies based on the tune, so if it helps I’d be happy with a tun that puts me anywhere from 12fpe up to 16fpe or so. The ability to tune higher would be nice in case things change, but I have lower fpe covered with a few Weihrauch springers. For the sake of this discussion and to keep things simple, let’s keep the tune to the 12-16fpe range.

I’m familiar with and enjoy BRK/Brocock, EdGun, and Taipan, and I’ve read a lot of good things about RTI, AGT, and several others. Those who’ve owned or shot these enough to know, how was the shot count per fill in this tune range? I’m strongly considering an RTI Prophet Performance, but I’m always open to other quality options as long as they net me a higher shot count. Doesn’t matter if it’s a single shot or repeater, if you’ve enjoyed a .177 that let you shoot a 250ct tin (or more) without needing to top up, I wanna hear about it! :)
I’m curious what you’re looking to do with your .177 set up? Needing or I guess wanting the high shot count for other reasons than not having to refill very often. I mean it’s really none of my business and I don’t mean to come across as judging, because I’m seriously not.

I have an Akela .177 and shooting right at 20 ft lbs it good for at least 30 shots, which is a far cry from your desires. I haven’t shot it down to where it really drops off, so maybe it’s 35 shots or maybe it’s 50 🤷🏻‍♂️. It’s an Airgun Revisions tune with Rich’s SSG hammer kit. It’s very consistent on the chronograph for being unregulated.

I just looked at an FX M4 on PA and it’s rated at 375 shots in .177 but that’s top tier pricing. If cost isn’t an issue and I’ll just assume it’s not, there’s also the BRK Atomic that I believe has quite a high shot count. Happy searching.

Squirrelfest

Bayonet, that’s a good one!

The two-yarder was a young, dumb one who came up to my shooting position. I didn’t use Strelok or even the scope, just by guess & by golly. That one took two shots.

Landowner said he’s tried rimfire but after one shot they all disappear for the day. I love my quiet and accurate rifle!
.17 HMR from 100+ yards is easy, by the time they figure out what's happening, it's all over. I used a Savage A17.

What pistol did you shoot today

Those Predom’s are tough as nails. Good stuff! I’ve heard the Polish army even used them as training weapons.
I did the spring modification that replaced the two springs with a single one. In retrospect, I think I’d shorten the new spring a bit … it’ll reduce the power a little (and that’s ok) but make for a more gentle shooter and lessen the needed cocking force 👍

Strike Industries Double Folding Stock , what do you think about the Mad Dog Clone? Or should i buy the Original?

I had the Strike Dual Fold on my GK1 and it worked great. But, the Maddog clone looks almost identical to me.

The Strike had the ability to quickly remove the stock by pressing both pins at the same time. This was nice if you wanted to shoot as a regular pistol, although it still had the adapter on it. I didn't notice that option demonstrated with the Maddog, but could be mistaken.
