Airgun Technologies  AGT vixen Reg creep when set to lower pressures.

Recently acquired an AGT vixen Long. Came set to what I assume is Factory regulator pressure. APX 130-135b. Off the rip the gun was shooting 18.13 JSB at 845-851 fps, 15.89 hades at 878-883, Monster Light 20.83s @ 799-805. I wanted a much quieter experience. I first tried setting the hammer spring lower trying to find an acceptable spread. No dice. 15-20fps spreads, shoot to shot variations too high for my liking. Degas, Lower the regulator by an 1/6th turn and refill. 15.89 down to 835 18.13 at 775~ish. no matter where on the hammer, even where i found the sweet spot. Wouldn't just settle to an acceptable range. I'd get some really tight spreads. then let it sit for an hour or two, come back first shot 200fps lower then the next string would put out some really consistent numbers and then start climbing slowly. Acting like an unregulated gun.. Ok.. degas, lower another 1/4 turn. velocity was exactly where i wanted. 18.13@ 740-746 15.89 @ 805-810. let it set, come back. first shot with 18.13 - 568 then - 732-739-745-748-739-731-712-749-739-742, same story. I'm very thorough, I always work up slowly on the hammer spring, find the peak, find the plateau and roll back until I'm in that super tight consistent zone. I figure the reg has just had it, it's done, i fugged it up. So just to be sure I bring this up to 130-135b -852.1-851.6-851.9-852.2-851.8-851.3-850.9-852.4. I let it sit, full all night before i left this morning, take 5 shots . 850.3-851.2-850.7-850.8-851.1 Is it that the reg has been set at this pressure for so long the springs have "memory" and just naturally return to this area? obviously the lower reg settings, the first shot being so significantly much lower is from creep.

Obvious the answer is to buy a new reg unless i want to shoot at this energy output. for some places that's fine. but, home, I need the silent little "tink" of the gun set to shoot 15.89 at 800. and i cannot afford a 200fps lower velocity first shot. I had one of the squirrels trying to chew through the newest repair of the attic exhaust vent in my crosshairs at 12.6y which should impact at exactly 1.9MIL low, nope- floated right over his head. apparently at 12.6 @ 568fps the POI is .9mrad instead of 1.9mrad

Any other reason for the low first shot other than reg creep?

New 2240 Woes

So I received my new 2240 direct from crosman. Not that happy at all.
I'm only getting 20-24 shots before the power drops off sharp.
I'm getting only an average of 384fps and 32 ES with Swarm 10x
And 412fps and 47 ES with crosman super pell.
Accuracy is nothing to brag about either.
Is this normal?
Also wondering if it was a return because it has a small area with scratching and the Co2 plug cap was only turned in about 2 turns and box not closed all the way properly.

Ideas?
In the end it's a 2240, it's going to be weak, but i love them. A hammer debounce device from aoa can help on the shot count, noise and even accuracy. I have a few different brands and styles of pellets but every single time on any of my 5 crosmans, they prefer crosman pellets....go figure. The most energy I ever got a 2240 to make was 16fpe on hpa. It was running a 16 inch barrel, boss bulk full valve, aoa hammer debounce device, big transfer, 900 psi and cphp. It's accurate tho.

FX  FX Impact - indexing your liner is a absolute must...

Will be posting follow up video shortly with field fine tuning at different distances, that first part I have posted above, is all good to get you there, but there is whole world of fine adjustments, stay tuned, coming shortly this week. thank you all for your support and kind words.

Crosman  Crosman Model 167 Dual CO2 .177 CAL.

Interesting stuff. They advertised it at a 700-fps velocity.

The Tim McMurray redesign known as the Sportsman QB77 .

Cheers,

J~

Having owned, tested and captured State Champion titles with both Crosman 160/167s, their Model 180/187 little brothers, and QBs, I respectfully disagree with your assessment that the QBs delivered significanly higher velocities and even better accuracy, TF. I consider them all equals in both regards.

The latest evolution of the .177 QB above just won a Bench-Rest Silhouette match (1/10 scale silhouettes to 100 yards) against a .22 Skout and .30 Brocock Ghost producing 2-3+ times as much energy in the hands of national-caliber shooters in Slug Class-

BTW and FWIW, all three of the Crosman 160/180 design guns pictured above accomplished those improbable outcomes with their original factory barrels; albeit the 187 barrel chopped to pistol length.

Spring piston rifle scope not holding zero

Another scope mounting issue i found by experience is the mounts scope stop pin size .

View attachment 576866
Notice one is smaller diameter. The smaller ones are problematic . There loose in the scope stop hole of the guns receiver and shift easy also puts more force pressure on the hole from smaller contact area .

Another reason i make the scope stop hole shims is it make as snugg as possble pin to the hole fit . Less chance of recoil deformation or wallering out , But still i frown on using any mount with a skinny pin vs a fatter one . ( Opinion)
Ah, my utg scope mount stop pins are in fact smaller in diameter than gamo’s scope rings. Thanks for highlighting that weakness.

New 2240 Woes

Shot count is on the low side but it is highly dependent on both temperature and manufacturing variables. Pretty much always going to have to do some tweaking of hammer spring tension to improve shot count, or better still, make an SSG for it.

Regarding accuracy, please advise on the distances you’re shooting, average size of 5-shot groups, and whether stock open sights or aftermarket. Otherwise my first instinct is to say try some pellets from JSB / FX / Air Arms, AEA, JTS, or H&N. Gamo and Crosman pellets should group acceptably at short distances (10 yards) but sometimes not.

And if you’re up to it, inspect the barrel for defects. My experience with Crosman barrels has been pretty spotty over the years.

What did you do airgun related today.

I find great value block cheese goes great with box wine. Everyday low pricing at Walmart 😉
Oh I see how this is air gun related.
You eat cheese shoot 5 shots through same hole drink wine to celebrate.lol.

Air Venturi  Avenge-X .22 Barrel Concerns

Well, after basically hours of trying to smooth the leade, there's still a bit of resistance pushing the pellet through and smearing is evident around the whole pellet head (even down to 5.51). What concerns me is that it looks like the leade/rifling is off-center. The rifling is thicker on half of it when looking down the breech. Also, after attempting to crown with the brass screw, I could only get half the rifling exposed (the "cog" if looking down the muzzle).
I guess I'll be contacting AV about it, but probably no chance of getting it replaced since I already messed with it.

Thoughts?

RTI  Epic One 600mm or Mora 600mm both. .22

Are those 2 pcps in the same power range?
Looking to sell something to buy my first multi caliber gun .. I'm really looking to get the best out of my Corbin setup.. Looking to shoot between 38gr to 40gr slugs . Is the mora front Bipod picatinny rail extension solid or a flimsy pice of metal ??
Im a bench shooter and for me, the bottle cage is the only weak link in the Mora system. I completely eliminated it replacing it with a very slightly modified 16" Arca rail.

Taipan  taipan slash - mag info

Marek was very kind in providing me information regarding the slash mag diameters. I inquired about this because I am familiar with CZ barrel diameters. Now Steve of air velocity sport and one or two other ballistic guys basically have a consensus that a slug should fit the GROOVE diameter of the barrel, not the BORE diameter. They, and myself have spent significant time proving this out with my taipans, epic 2, kalibrgun cricket, vulcan 3. All use CZ barrels, all share same diameters. Those generally being:

177 - we don't have one
22 - .219
25 - .253
30 - .3063

Now I'm strictly focusing on slugs, any taipan will shoot pellets lights out. So, now to the point, taipan slash mags are:

177 - 4.49mm, 22 - slug 5.52 and pellet 5.54, 25 cal - 6.34 slug and 6.39 pellet, Nothing in 30 cal yet, but if they follow the same pattern 7.62 slug and 7.65 pellet.

Now doing the conversions Marek said make slug .01-.02 larger. So this is the conversions

177 - .177 - .178 diameter slug
22 - .218-.219 slug and .219-.220 pellet
25 - .250-.251 slug and .252-.253 pellet
30 - .301-.301 slug and .302-.303 pellet - 30 cal NOT confirmed, this is just my extrapolation based on pattern.

So, what's the problem? Well based on Me and my more learned buddies experience, Taipan has undersized their slug mag, it would use bore diameter where the slug barely engages the lands to provide spin on the slug. Leaves air blowing around the slug through the grooves, affecting accuracy. That's the position we have seen.

Where I diverge from my associates is here, on a standard repeater, the slug that is fitted to the groove as we like, you can feel resistance when it is seated in the lead in. The lands cutting into the slug. However, the slash is semi auto, it blasts the slug into the breach lead in. If it is too tight, can it get caught and mash up into a lump?

I know groove fitting is better than bore fitting with single shot repeaters. But physics may require differently in regards to semi auto. Maybe the accuracy of semi auto has been affected by these requirements.

below is a simple diagram, I'm no artist, the orange color represents the lead of the slug filling the groove of a groove sized slug versus the bore only on the other. NOTE - I KNOW, nice hair! LOL!

My proposal for backrider. But anyway in the end i ended up designing a simple fixed version for my M4....

Couldn’t agree more, your design skills are pretty awesome! Im also making a simple fixed version with a mini bagrider for my other impacts.

OK
I'm thoroughly confused.
Why would you Loctite a bottle?
When pressurized it will not move.
Correct?

I'm sure it has something to do with protecting a revenue stream. Probably want you to buy a tophat and bottle if you wanted to put a CF bottle on the gun.

Niksan has the rear bottle and adapter on the Escalade rifle thread locked.
