Airgun Technologies  VOTE: Which Caliber TAIPAN Veteran SLASH Semi-Auto should I review?

I ordered a .25 Slash Tactical compact instead of a .22 mostly because ... I hesitate to be honest here but I can't be the only one to think this way ...
because I have so many tins of unused .25 cal pellets left over from an L2 and a Huben K1 I used to have.

Plus the few .30s I've had in the past were overly powerful and much to loud for my local conditions.
That caliber would be a better option for some types of hunting but unnecessary overkill for the shorter range paper target shooters.

And there's already a .22 GK1 around here somewhere to use up any spare .22 pellets, or else a .22 would have been my 1st choice in a Slash because of the wider variety of pellets in .22 cal. On the other hand, when spending this kind of money for an airgun where any caliber of the gun costs the same as another caliber, it is also quite satisfying on some manly emotional level to get the modestly higher shot power offered by the .25 cal over the .22..

Since these airguns have adjustable regulators and power controls. I expect that many people would tune their power down from top maximum anyway when they are tracking down the most accurate velocity ranges for specific pellets. Just because an airgun can be opened up to 100fpe doesn't mean that it can't or shouldn't be powered down to 20fpe for practice. In my mind the biggest advancement of modern airguns, other than the move to PCP air, are the adjustable power options. I don't want an airgun that is stuck at ~100fpe, I want one that can be easily dialed between 10fpe and 100fpe.

The direct technical comparisons I'm looking for would be between a Slash, a Huben K1 and possibly a Leshiy 2.

Those are 3 of the big competitors in that size and power range of semi-auto airguns and many people on the forum have already had the opportunity to compare an L2 and a K1 for themselves. A person might be able to pick up a couple of used K1s in the classifieds for the price of a new Slash with a couple of spare slug magazines.

Will the Slash really be that much better than a K1? Will the L2 have a market battle in that price range?

The Slash probably won't be twice as good as a K1. And the folding modular design of the Leshiy 2 makes it very easy to work on and upgrade and more compact for transport compared to the Slash. But the main thing for me is that the Slash will be different than the K1 and the L2. That's what makes a new model release like this so inherently interesting from a technical perspective. And it's coming from an established company with a good reputation for quality. So I'm not as concerned about 1st release problems as I might be with some other manufacturers.

Of course it will also be nice to have a few removable Slash magazines in hand compared to manually loading a K1 when pellets run out.
The Leshiy 2s also have removable magazines. But it was easier for me to just leave the same magazine in the gun and to use a speed loader to refill it with a single twist of the loader.

N/A  Thinking of a high shot count .177

I already have an HW100 in this cal that I’ve got tuned to shoot at 16 FPE and it’s perfect for that application. What I’m thinking of is a low powered , 8 fpe ( 8.4 grain at 650fps) with a monster shot count. I’m not an airgun snob , but I refuse to buy a rifle from China and would prefer not to buy from Turkey either. Yes I know that’s going to limit what I can get my hands on.

Here’s the criteria and remember I’m up in Canukistan so I’m already pretty limited.
Bottle fed ,maybe 700cc if the bottle fits
Short-under 36”
Regulated
Under 7 lbs
Multi shot
Wood stock preferably

Here a couple rifles I have in mind.
HW100 with a dr.BOBs bottle adapter
RAW HM1000
FX boss /crown

What other rifles should I consider?
I can speak to 2 more fx guns the impact and dreamline. The impact I could probably tune to the best efficiency, but the dreamline wouldn't be far behind it.

I've been wanting a 177 dreamline compact tactical and cannot justify the price so I got. An old benjamin discovery, converted to 177 and trust thing let's me shoot for hours on what I consider " very little air"

Airforce  An Easy .177 Pellet Loading Solution for AirForce Airguns

I got tired of the shift in POI as pressure dropped so I regulate my AirForce rifles and use plenums. Either a Huben Power MAX-ATH (50cc plenum) or my home built plenum.

Right top to bottom
Top hat
M18 extension (tube diameter issue)
20 CM Shan Bao 3000 psi tube (M28 to M18 adapter included with tube)
Huben Power regulator lower 1/2 (just unscrews to M28 that screws into tube)
Huben Power U adapter
Trajectron angled adapter.
Bottle up to 1.6L (fat). 1.1L shown.

The 20cm tube and the rest after the regulator is a 150cc plenum. I can run my .25 condor at 1800psi and get almost 900fps. And shoot several hundred rounds at that pressure with a 1.1L.

.177 you only need a very small plenum. Huben Power Dream or MAX-ATH are plenty (25cc and 50cc plenum) but they add a bit more LOP than the U adapter setup depending on bottle used.

Pellet packing: Midway USA vs Pyramyd Air

I'm glad you had good luck. But they followed up one mistake with another, and then stopped responding when I told them and sent photos that the replacement pellets were shipped the same way and came damaged. This told me all I needed to know about this company.

I hear ya. I won't be ordering pellets from them in the future.... I'd rather not depend on luck when it comes to pellet shipping. Other than that... I've spent thousands and thousands of dollars with Midway for firearms items for many many years. I've never had a problem... ever. Fast shipping. No games with things being listed as "in stock" and not actually being in stock (like some merchants).

In the firearms world, Midway has an excellent reputation. A friend on the gun building forum I own just bought a new Marauder for a smokin' deal from Midway USA. It was a blemish model.... got it for under $500! Here's the blemish: A ding on the receiver in the port.

I paid $760 for my Marauder at Pyramyd (and no complaints). But he got his for a tick under $500!

Tuxing gaskets

Hey my tuxing compressor is leaking air at the bleed block.

At the blue arrow there is lil hole in the bleed block to release the air when you open the bleed screw and at this hole the air is constantly coming out. even with the bleed screw all the way screwed in.

I'm trying to figure out which gasket i need there. the ones i have as a spare don't seal/fit. its a white ptfe gasket. seems like the spare ones are not thick enough.

Tuxing itself just says its a white gasket...like the ones you have at the filters and hoses. but they are to thin :/ they fit in diameter but not in thickness

Man I would look at a red wolf standard. I had one in a PRS chassis for field target open class and it got a ton of shots at 20 pounds. No I don't know enough about the Redwolf and programming it to tell you how many that would be and it might be closer to 12 foot pounds. But I would think you would get to 200 shots or more easily.

But it don't meet your weight and length restriction

Pellet packing: Midway USA vs Pyramyd Air

I've ordered a TON of firearms stuff from Midway over the years. They are a good and trustworthy company. I've never had a problem and always very good service. They ship within 24 hours of any order I've made.

But I guess they are simply not well-versed in the world of air rifle stuff.
I'm glad you had good luck. But they followed up one mistake with another, and then stopped responding when I told them and sent photos that the replacement pellets were shipped the same way and came damaged. This told me all I needed to know about this company.

What are the downsides of semi-auto?

Semi-auto seems fun and practical. Why would someone not want one?
A LOT of people on AGN think ALL semiauti suck. I disagree, I own 4 and other than me breaking one they have worked just fine. The AEA .30 Terminator is a beast and I've never had even one issue. Only problem is there are no .30 magazines available. My Hatsan Barrage and Bullmaster worked most of the time. I took time and a lot of experiments to get the balance of moderator, return spring and hammer spring just right and now they just plain work and very rarely have indexing issues. My hatsan Invader I went a little too far in my experiments, it is now a bolt action. I may go back and see if i can make it work but the Bullmaster and it are .25 so not much incentive there.

But to be honest, I don't shoot my semiauto much anymore. More a novelty that have run their course with me. Not much need for one pest wise. Terminator was awesome for Raccoons but have not seen one in over a year. Squirrels are one and done so my more accurate side levers work better.

Skout  Epoch and FX chrono!

This is an odd one, if I run my Epoch over my FX chrono I will get odd/spurious readings high and low the chrno is mounted on my bipod but I have tried it on the barrel with the same results, yet if run it over the LNBR chrono there reading are pretty much normal, I have done the same with another gun to test and had much less/near normal result from both, so why would the Epoch throw odd fps but only over the FX chrono?
The chrono normally sits on a small extension and sits just under the barrel.

STO Sarissa

MikeAllen,

Mackeral5 on this forum has quite an impressive collection of airgun moderators, including the STO Sarissa. He told me that his Sarrisa works very well. That it works better at higher power. That it makes PCPs with a stock shroud work better than other moderators of equivalent dimensions. So, based on this endorsement, getting a Sarrisa would not be a mistake. That said, I suggest you ask Mackeral5 to speak for himself.

Now, Mackeral5 also has a number of custom mufflers and inserts that I designed for him. Some work better than others; which brings me to a side-note: The usefulness of factory-made moderators as benchmarks. So, when you have your Sarrisa in hand, I would like you to compare one of my custom mufflers against it. I do not expect my 6.5 x 2" OD effort to match the Sarrisa, but to give it a run for its money, at a quarter of the price.

To facilitate such a comparison a .25 cal 6.5 x 2" muffler with a half 20 thread will be on its way to your shipping address, by the time you read this, free of charge. The only costs you are expected to incur are for your pellets and air :).

This cylindrical muffler was derived from the oval offset moderator I designed for the Huben pistol, shooting at over 60 FPE. And, it works very well in that application. The wall thickness is heaviest around the blast chamber; then steps down as the pressure drops towards the front, to keep the weight down.

Anyway, I would not dare suggest that you try my offering first, to see if it meets your needs, before your decide on the Sarrisa. I would rather you rank the two mufflers, taking into account the absolute performance, size, weight and cost. Then post your impressions or results on open forum.

I shall close my topic deviation with; I trust that your Sarrisa will live up to its reputation.

Note that the waffle pattern ribs were added to the OD of the smooth muffler version that is shown in section below:

Are these for sale!!? .30 and 35 cal, 1/2 unf and m18 thread respectively...

+1 for the Sarissa in .300 @ >100 fpe

Donny/Rallyshark was the first I recall professing their approval of the Sarissa, and knowing the levels he was pushing his maverick I considered his experience to be a good reference.

Recently I built a .300 B-rod contraption that was assembled mostly from my junk/excess parts. It is powered by a modified version of Don C's Powerhouse valve. 24.5" of TJ's 1:26 twist .300 barrel top it off. Unregulated it will easily do 160-170fpe on 3000psi with 68gr ammo. While that is "fun", that isn't the normal use. Normally it is regulated, somewhere between 2000psi and 2400 psi, and tuned for 100-125fpe.

When I first put it together, the best fit of the suppressors I had "in stock" was a DFL Shogun. While the Shogun did indeed take the bite off the B-rod's bark, it was still pretty loud. I would go as far as to describe its loudness level as something less than respectful of my neighbors. I really enjoy shooting this gun and this means I need to quiet it down else risk pissing off the neighborhood.....

I picked up an STO Sarissa with the high flow core. All I can say is WOW!!!!!! I never knew >100fpe could be so quiet. for the most part all I hear is the sound of the guns action/hammer strike. There is virtually no muzzle blast.

If you are operating in the 100fpe range and want quiet, you can't go wrong the Sarissa.

An obligatory pic of my Brod contraption with the Sarissa mounted:

Please excuse the paracord, testing revealed this one desperately needs a barrel band!!! It is so much easier to shoot than with the barrel free floating. A lot less "twitchy"/sensitive to follow through.....A work in process, I hope to figure out a permanent barrel band solution in the not so distant future.....
Awesome rifle

I ordered Olive drab parts from K&L

I ordered parts from K&L 8 months ago Sept. 2024, I haven't received them June 2025, or an update... are they still operating?
you might want to do a search here on AGN as numerous members have chimed in with their issues AND K&L does read AGN posts. here is how to send them a direct notification of this thread "not the same as a PM"

Benjamin  Marauder - Need Help (resolved)

Also understand that pellet changes can create inaccuracies too. A good buddy just got some of the new AA 10.3s under the new label and they shoot poorly !!! being no where as accurate as the older label stuff.
May need to revisit what barrel likes for pellet ?
All this happened in the same session using the same pellets. Went from ragged hole groups to 1.5” groups at 25y. Seemed some fouling may have been the culprit. Never had that happen before. Knew it had to be something stupid and it was.
