Pellets or slugs close range coyote?

Just my opinion, again, but I wouldn’t use an air rifle of any kind on a coyote, especially that close. AR-15 or 10, a good 30/30 or a lever gun n .357 or .44. I don’t want a coyote close to me at all, especially if it’s aggressive.

Rick H.
Between an AR-15 in .223/5.56 and the Texan .308 launching a 150gr boat tail flat nose at 990 fps, the Texan has the better anchoring potential—especially inside 150–170 yards.

Here’s why:

  • AR-15 (.223/5.56): It’s fast and flat-shooting, but the lighter bullets (55–77gr) rely on fragmentation or yawing to cause trauma. If the bullet zips through without hitting bone or doesn’t fragment properly, a coyote might run—even fatally hit. It’s not uncommon to see runners unless shot placement is perfect.
  • Texan .308 (150gr @ 990 fps): My Texan delivering a heavy, subsonic slug (pure lead) with a flat nose—designed to dump energy in the target. Even at 170 yards, you’re still carrying over 240 FPE. That kind of mass and frontal area tends to anchor coyotes more reliably, especially with a center-mass hit. The wound channel is wider, and the energy transfer is slower but deeper.
So while the AR-15 might have more raw energy and velocity, BARS 150gr boat tail slug design and delivery method, Texan give it the edge in anchoring—less chance of a runner, more chance of a clean drop and at closer range the Texan is even more effective. This is not an opinion, it's a fact.

What pistol did you shoot today

I had one of those paper weights, I wonder where it wound up?
It was a Marksman product, which really made me sad to think that they had aquired Beeman, when I heard it.

Having trouble seeing the reticle

I'm having trouble seeing the reticle on my element scope I ordered the illuminated reticle because I was having trouble and I'm still having trouble. Even with or without my glasses on I still can't see it. Can anybody recommend a scope that may help. Thanks in advance
You know that Element scopes have a life time warranty?
Perhaps you should have a talk with Element. 👍

Airforce  Worst PCP ever and I am ashamed that I fibbed.

Well amigo I personally appreciate you clearing your conscience ..

I too went down the AF rabbit hole and I swear that SOB wore my a$$ out.. I consider myself to be an above average tuner, i wrk on all of my guns myself, and I am a machinest by trade as most of you who know me are aware,
Mercifully I stopped the bleeding before I got too deep in the turd, I know the "true. blue" AF cult spend a Ton of money to end up with a gun that should sell for abot $200.00 ...

You and the others have listed the majority of the issues withthis platform so no need to add my misery list.

Bottom line is it amazes me they are still in business with the Now Ludacris pricing on this outdated, no shootin', line of guns,,,

Umarex  Notos old news

put a solofish laser towards the front of the top rail and zero at 25yards. the pic rail is so close to the barrel that you'll often see the pellet flash inside the laser beam.. pewpew!
Nice. You have a pic ?

Notos is a phenominal value. Stock performance adds to this value while deep modifications tend to get out of hand ($$ wise) and diminishs this value.

Gtg stock in my opinion🛡

Golf cart to have a different job

That should make things easier!
Cant wait to see it sprayed with camo!
Yes, it should. before I would have to bring a tote to rest the air tank and regulator on. I Drive a Kawaski mule to the site to drop off my gear then hide the mule. I should have it painted on 6/24 or the 25th.

GX CS4 100hrs Cylinder Pulled, Was it Worth It

Just did a 6.8 cylinder top off from about 245 to 310bar. Took 55 minutes straight run. Head temp reached 120F and water 110F (Ambient 75F). Thought I'd run cooler, then dummy me realized without the outer case on the fan isn't pulling air around the cylinder. So need a long run with it on for correct readings.
Did a few dead heads afterwards, 26 seconds to 300bar. Looks like after a run in cycle I've actually gained 2 seconds over new.
I'm certainly no expert on these either. I'm just cursed with an ability to take things apart and put them back together.
Not sure what GX's response would be about trying to order all the individual parts. In the exploded view, from the manual, the majority parts are in the piston assembly.
Drop in anythings are just simpler to do than compiling kits that needs a plethora of small parts for repairs that not everyone has the ability to do.
I'm not disassembling mine again till there's an actual issue simply because of the unknown ability, or time frame, to get all the small parts.

Finally

It’s 82 at 8am. Tomorrow, calling for 95. Hate it when you sweat when you swim. I don’t know how you guys take the heat in southern states. Last year in Texas over 40 days 100 degrees, I don’t have air conditioning and no plans getting it. Living on lake helps.
My huge concern is these wild fires.
I shoot way more in winter. You can dress to cold but not to heat. Plus no bugs. Yesterday, something bit me 3 times on elbow, nasty.
Ironically, yesterday Bass opened. I was up at 5:15, but the temp was 53f. I turned on the furnace instead. I usually fish when the sun comes up or goes down, daily.
In winter I shoot on average 10-20 hours weekly. Lucky to get 5 in the summer. I’m much busier with projects in summer. Crow

Nice mod, you always impress … The 20 cal R7 , (Königen) you have seen it that’s a tad snappy with the Vortek kit in it. It’s at 8 ft lbs , Vortek likes to use short stout springs with less pre load. It is deadly but there is instant load on the barrel at break to load it as well as wants to close up fully From the spring tension Not sure I’ll mess with it as it’s deadly accurate. But it’s one of those things. …….
I’ve never tried any vortek springs few over here have fitted the pg kit in 30s and like them . To be honest I could loose a tad of preload off this spring as the seal beds in , but at present it’s very consistent so I’ll see

A pal has borrowed the rifle Chris so I can’t whip the stock off to show images but I can explain from this pic . I freed up the cocking linkage knuckle and reduced the arm sightly, re profile the ear on the arm and added a delrin insert to the arm similar to the new 99/50 . The strip only needs to be .5-1mm proud of the arm . I found the location of the pin a pain as it’s a fraction to low with the strip fitted. I scraped that and added a brass m6 set screw behind the pin location and forend locator. You can dial in the fit and tension to the arm so you achieve a nice smooth cocking cycle , when happy locktight in . Works well far better .

N/A  old man that is newby to air guns

Keep in mind it's not just about velocity, but energy - a function of projectile mass, and the square of its velocity. Yes, a powerful airgun can have muzzle velocities approaching that of a shotgun load or rimfire bullet, but with a projectile that is lighter and less ballistically efficient. It carries less energy, decelerates faster, and places only a fraction of the hitting power on a distant target.

A 40-grain .22lr slug doing 1100 FPS generates around 110 foot-pounds of energy (FPE). An 18-grain .22 pellet at 800 FPS (which is quite a bit more than most springers can do) is about 25 FPE at the muzzle and again, much less than that at 30 yards.
