Beeman R7(HW30) Vortek Tune

I bought this R7 3 or 4 years ago and thought it shot quite well, although power was on the low side. I took it out recently and did some more shooting across a chrono and the results were dismal. Different weight pellets kinda shot the same-somewhat less than 600 fps. I've been avoiding the teardown of this but decided it was time. I disassembled the rifle and found that the innards were really crappy. The lubricant used on the spring etc was this black, gritty shtuff that looked like it came from one of Hitler's WWII tanks. The spring also had a bit of a curve to it as well and the piston seal was covered with it. Weihrauch should be ashamed of themselves for assembling their guns this way. I bought a Vortek PG4 Delrin tune kit and installed it after cleaning all the gunk inside. The only deviation I made was to coat the piston and seal with moly paste instead of the red grease that comes with the kit. I used that stuff on the spring only. I followed the procedure on the YouTube video made by TbT. It's well worth watching even though you may not buy a Tinbum kit. After installation, I shot it about 20 times and then did more testing on the chrono. Before tuning, it shot JSB 7.87 pellets at 598 fps and after was 684 with a whopping increase of just over 2 fpe. I also shot 7.33, 8.4, 10.3 and 13.4 gr pellets, but the 7.87 was the clear winner. This really made me feel so much better about this rifle, and truly it will be an heirloom in my family. BTW, it has a Corcoran stock on it and a 4-16 Sightron S-Tac scope.

Very Nice and Great choice of glass!

Nickel, Dime, Dollars 😂

Hello All, this isn't anything but some thoughts from a green new comer to the sport/hobby and just wondering how deep I can dig my hole.
I recently got my first. AV Avenger Bullpup(2) 25 cal. Groundhogs, Raccoons after my chickens, paper, just plinking.
I did allot of research. AV had a summer promotion (15%) so this gun was <$400. Wow. I got a little cheap on the scope, CVLife 2-10 x 32 AO. For the money it's quite good. Compressor; open box smaller one Spiritech. $100 ($275 retail). Same overstock got a great rifle bag, $20 ($80 retail). Then, obviously, pellets.
At this point, my wife asked me, "Do you have everything you need?" ; "Are you sure you don't need anything else?" She wasn't asking to be hard about it, just rather keep our budget and understand.
So.... This is where things took a bit of a turn on me. Simple things, Silicon cloth for wipe down, muzzle cleaning patches, loctite, bubble level kit.
Ok, that outta do it. Looking great. Oops, forgot a few things. Resting it to mount the scope is making me crazy. Needed a small rifle rest. Cheap laser bore to get close(was junk, returned), basic resting sand bags, etc.
Oh, I can't be sure how this things is performing? Ask for advice, everyone said the same thing. "You need a Chrono". That sounds expensive. I found a budget Chinese one that was well reviewed and most guys here agreed.... $50.
Back to my wife; so I needed a few more things. Not overly expensive. She's completely fine but smiling with the "I knew it" look on her face. 😂
Hmmm... Maybe I should upgrade that glass? Those digital pressure gauges look nice. A moderator would do this thing some justice. Wow, some of these higher end guns look amazing. I bet it'd be easier to fill from a bottle.
I knew, like everything, this could be a real rabbit hole. I didn't realize just how much I'd love it. I'm wondering if others out there had a similar experience and where that road led them.

All my best to everyone. Sorry for the long post but it felt good to put it out there....
I bought an fx impact and put money into it as "my last air gun" it only accelerated the problem. I got an aea turd, an fx dreamline, an old crosman discovery, built a pcp 22xx crosman, a co2 automatic bb gun, spring pistol, rebuilt my very first airgun.

It never ends my dude. Not only that but I've passed this illness on to several friends too.

Benjamin  Marauder - Need Help (resolved)

The spring was added to the Mark2 only for assembly reasons at Crosman and has nothing to do with preload on the barrel. When seven baffles was Incorporated, and then take into consideration all the other components coming together as one . The variation of length becomes magnified to the point where an O-ring was just too short of a distance to hit during production.
The 113 O-ring on the barrel support does play a key role. It needs to act much like an artillery hold on a springer. I have found that old O-rings that’s hardened up or harder O-rings more than 75 durometer can be slightly detrimental.
As for the stuck baffles, these are usually the result of the tube being slightly undersize. The ID of the tube is not machined to a specific size every time.
Airgun Revisions does offer an undersized baffle set when called in. This is not currently available on the website.

Over the Barrel Moderator for Impact M4?

Good luck. They're known as reflex supressors and I couldn't find one (Hein fromman) for my 700mm tensioned barrel, so I made one and it worked but not well enough for me. The donny fly yokozuna with quick disconnect was the best option.

Silence is more important than shortness to me, but not at the expense of balance. I was running the carbon harmonic shroud modded to fit over a tensioner with a ronin. The yokozuna is lighter, shorter and better. Highly recommend those new design mods.
Thank you. I look at the DonnyFLs. They seem to be a good option, in case I don't find an over the barrel mod.

Airforce  IS AIRFORCE GAINING POPULARITY AGAIN?

Where is a good place to get cz barrels? I have a condor n am interested in a non choked barrel.
LW barrels work fine. You can cut the choke off and recrown the barrel. You would have to machine a CZ barrel to fit the AF gun anyway.

Petition to Allow Laser Range Finders in Field Target Competitions

There used to be analog range estimating scopes too. I own one and didn't remember till this morning. Keep in mind that rules are there to benefit those who can play in them or find the gray areas.
any Miliradian FFP scope or SFP MRAD set to its 1:1 magnification is an analog range finder.

Height of target in inches ÷ 36 x 1000 ÷ Mil reading= range in Yards

with MOA reticle it's

target size in inches x 95.5 ÷ MOA reading= range in yards

Randolph front rest

I use an AR 250 ...no problem covering a card at 50. Know that there is a weight limit for the AR 250 at 15 lbs. This is due to the counter balancing weight. But you can always add more weight.
I love how compact it AR 250 is. Very easy to travel with. The last time i checked, the AR was around 650 + shipping from Indonesia. The prices may have gone up.
I have not used a Randolph...but hear positive reviews.
They are around 800 now shipped or 900 with the adjustable width. Is it stable? I have a phoenix bipod and rear bag setup that I use for f class 22lr and it's very stable

Nickel, Dime, Dollars 😂

Yep. That's how it goes in almost every hobby. I recently dipped my toes into this air gun thing (just a few weeks ago). My rifle was $780. But by the time I got done... scope, scope mounts, fill tank, pellets, etc. etc... about $2200. I just spent another $200 on an inventory of the pellets I found the rifle likes. And another $90 on extra magazines.

Let's see what you got! Thread is worthless without photos! ;) Enjoy in good health!

Randolph front rest

Good morning,
I am going to try some N50 with air rifle and rimfire and I'm looking at getting a Randolph front rest or an AR 250 front rest with joystick. I was curious if the AR 250 can cover a whole card at 50 yards? Also every time I go to look at the Randolph front rest it says the website could be being impersonated because their certificate expired and is a risk going to the webpage. Have you guys had that issue? I would like to look at them and get an ideal on price? Thanks
Jon

FX M4, impact problem at 100 yards

Good afternoon, it sounds like to me a possibility of maybe the scope is not lined up straight or you did not mention if you have a level on the rifle to make sure you are not canting the rifle a tall target test at 50 yd. Would figure out if it's a scope issue? Or if you might need to index the barrel.. If you need any more information on a tall target test, let me know hope this helps.

Regulated or Non-Regulated

I don't think regulators affect accuracy, they affect velocity consistency. But too much velocity variation turns into vertical dispersion of shots so in that sense the regulator improves accuracy. The data provided by JPS2486 is great to illustrate what happens in an unregulated gun. His gun gives him over 100 shots but that is with about 100 fps velocity variation. 100 fps is very noticable. Even half that much and I will adjust my hold point at the start and end of a shot string. I only shoot at 35 yards and less almost all the time because that is all the distance I have at home. For that distance I want to see velocity variation of 20 fps or less. Longer distances may need even tighter velocity variation. If you pick a fairly tight pressure range an unregulated gun can give you 20 fps maximum velocity variation. But a regulated guns can give you a lot more shots within that sort of velocity variation.

It's totally reasonable to ask whether we need a velocity variation of 10 or 20 fps. For most purposes we do not. My one unregulated gun is a Marauder pistol (Prod) and it's tune gives me about 40 fps variation over 20-24 shots. If I shoot a 30 yard challenge target (and I have) I aim high at the start and end of the target. 40 fps moves my point of impact about 1/4 inch at 30 yards. For hitting a squirrel in the head, 1/4 inch is insignificant. For hitting a 1/8th diameter 10 ring it is not. But my Prod has produced a >190 30 yard challenge target. The velocity variation is not an issue in doing better, I can adjust for that. The limitation is my home made stock which flexes for me to feel comfortable shooting it bench rest. With JPS2486's gun, he can easily pick a pressure range that gives him 20 fps or less for enough shots to shoot a target. He may have to adjust his hold or scope if he wants to keep shooting targets but for one target, his gun will give him tight enough velocity variation.
