Having trouble seeing the reticle

First off, wear your glasses. Secondly, is there an adjustable ring (not MAGNIFICATION adjustment) around the ocular (where you look through)? Not familiar with Element but there probably is an adjustment ring to focus in crosshairs.
First off, wear your glasses. Why? Give your reasoning. Every piece of glass in front of your eye degrades your vision to some degree. Safety.....BS, We are adults. We assume many risks, maybe one of the most dangerous is driving to and from shooting. Shooting while smoking or drinking alcohol. Shooting out in the sun for hours no hat, sleeveless shirt or none, shorts. Now let me hear your reasoning for glasses?

HW 50 shorten the barrel and recrown . Unlimited shot count , days ,weeks , years !

( I know , smart azz answer )😁

I think your first statement is the best , A larger air bottle on your HW 100 . Or a new HW100 with a larger bottle so you do not have to shoot the heavier gun all the time .

What are the downsides of semi-auto?

personally i think semi auto makes for a lazy shooter , just blast away

That's a shooter issue, not a gun (or semi-auto) issue. "Blast away???" Puhleeze. I have many semi-auto firearms. I don't "blast away" indiscriminately. But I will admit that an occasional mag-dump can be very satisfying, WHEN I hit the target with every round. And I do.
3D-Torso-Targets-sighted-and-point.jpg

The same is true whether it's air guns or firearms. But I think of bolt-action as the "stick-shift" of guns. I like a stick-shift car, too! There's something satisfying about manually working the action. It's more ritualistic. There's a "zen" quality to it, eh? More "being one with the machine."

They each have their place.

Skout  Epoch and FX chrono!

This is an odd one, if I run my Epoch over my FX chrono I will get odd/spurious readings high and low the chrno is mounted on my bipod but I have tried it on the barrel with the same results, yet if run it over the LNBR chrono there reading are pretty much normal, I have done the same with another gun to test and had much less/near normal result from both, so why would the Epoch throw odd fps but only over the FX chrono?
The chrono normally sits on a small extension and sits just under the barrel.

KRAxfuV.jpg
There's settings to play with. My fx radar doesn't like some of my guns and I just need to change the return rate or the fpe setting. The new software update has simplified those choices but exacerbated the problem imho. I wish they would use the microphone to adjust the gain on the radar return and have 2 settings 600fps and above and 600 fps and below.

What are the downsides of semi-auto?

For myself have no need for one. Here are some reasons.
I am a firm believer when hunting any animal, 1 shot 1 kill, make that 1st one count.

1. Air Efficiency & Shot Count

Semi-autos often use more air per shot than bolt-action or single-shot PCPs. That means fewer shots per fill and more frequent trips to the tank or compressor.

2. Complex Cycling Mechanisms

The semi-auto action relies on precise timing and pressure to cycle reliably. If the regulator isn’t tuned just right or the hammer spring is off, you can get:

  • Double feeds
  • Failure to cycle
  • Inconsistent velocity

3. Pellet/Slug Sensitivity

They can be picky eaters. Some semi-autos jam or misfeed with certain slug shapes or skirt designs—especially if the magazine tolerances are tight or the feed ramp isn’t polished.

4. Increased Wear and Tear

More moving parts = more maintenance. The cycling mechanism, especially in blowback-style designs, can wear faster than simpler bolt-action setups. O-rings, springs, and seals take a beating.

5. Trigger Feel

Some semi-autos sacrifice trigger crispness for mechanical simplicity. You might notice a longer or mushier pull compared to a finely tuned single-shot.

6. Regulator Stress

Rapid fire can cause pressure fluctuations if the reg can’t keep up. That leads to velocity swings and inconsistent point of impact—especially noticeable in long-range shooting.

7. Noise

They tend to be louder, both mechanically and in muzzle report. That’s not ideal for stealthy hunting setups unless you’ve got a solid moderator and internal baffling.

Umarex  THE ZELOS IS AMAZING

How does yours shoot? I picked up a used shorty .22 and I’m not impressed. While cleaning it I noticed no choke and thought this might not be good. It’s even a scatter gun with every slug I tried. Mine does best with an 18gr pellet. But at 50 yards it’s horrible. I’m worn out from messing with it but might reduce my 18.1 speed down from 915 to maybe 880fps.
At 20-25 y it’s spot on with JSBs 18.13s. ( I did have to dail speed down to right @900 )

I’m sorry you’re having difficulties

How’s your crown?
I believe the creator was having a lathe issue at the time of these.

I know the JSb 18.13 has a head size of 5.52 and that might make the difference.
I believe HN may make a 5.53 head pellet.

What are the downsides of semi-auto?

I'm new to the air gun world. But I have a fair bit of experience in the firearms world, and I would imagine the differences between bolt-action (or single shot) and semi-auto are the same, since Physics is Physics.

Semi-auto requires that some of the energy (from the air pressure or explosion of powder, as the case may be) is used to cycle the action. That reduces the amount of energy being used to expel the projectile. So projectile velocities are a bit lower with semi-auto.... if that matters.

In the precision (firearm) shooting world, bolt-actions are preferred. Fewer moving parts. Tighter lock-up and chambering.

Semi-autos are more prone to malfunctions / misfeeds than bolt-action.

That's all I've got for now!

N/A  Thinking of a high shot count .177

I have a Red Wolf standard that shoots 10.3 pellets at about 885 fps on high power. I added the 700cc bottle to it and get at least 260 shots on high power. I usually fill it once I'm about 150 bar and don't usually run it down to the low pressure (130 bar??). Low power setting gets me about 12 fpe.

Randolph front rest

Good morning,
I am going to try some N50 with air rifle and rimfire and I'm looking at getting a Randolph front rest or an AR 250 front rest with joystick. I was curious if the AR 250 can cover a whole card at 50 yards? Also every time I go to look at the Randolph front rest it says the website could be being impersonated because their certificate expired and is a risk going to the webpage. Have you guys had that issue? I would like to look at them and get an ideal on price? Thanks
Jon

Petition to Allow Laser Range Finders in Field Target Competitions

"Posting ranges skunks those who want the additional traditional challenge."

Just put the ranges on the score card for that class, and have those folks all shoot together.....

We have had a match director do that twice. He put the ranges on the back of the scorecards at a club match as an experiment. Didn't cause any change in anyones scores from their average.

Over the Barrel Moderator for Impact M4?

For my Impact M4 .30cal 800mm Superior Heavy STX im am looking for on over the barrel mod. The Fox 600 does not fit, Huma-Air has nothing to offer. I've seen a Hein Fromann Reflex Silencer. Is this available somewhere? Any other ideas? I love it silent and short... I know 800mm is the opposite ;-)
Good luck. They're known as reflex supressors and I couldn't find one (Hein fromman) for my 700mm tensioned barrel, so I made one and it worked but not well enough for me. The donny fly yokozuna with quick disconnect was the best option.

Silence is more important than shortness to me, but not at the expense of balance. I was running the carbon harmonic shroud modded to fit over a tensioner with a ronin. The yokozuna is lighter, shorter and better. Highly recommend those new design mods.

Airgun Technologies  VOTE: Which Caliber TAIPAN Veteran SLASH Semi-Auto should I review?

I ordered a .25 Slash Tactical compact instead of a .22 mostly because ... I hesitate to be honest here but I can't be the only one to think this way ...
because I have so many tins of unused .25 cal pellets left over from an L2 and a Huben K1 I used to have.

Plus the few .30s I've had in the past were overly powerful and much to loud for my local conditions.
That caliber would be a better option for some types of hunting but unnecessary overkill for the shorter range paper target shooters.

And there's already a .22 GK1 around here somewhere to use up any spare .22 pellets, or else a .22 would have been my 1st choice in a Slash because of the wider variety of pellets in .22 cal. On the other hand, when spending this kind of money for an airgun where any caliber of the gun costs the same as another caliber, it is also quite satisfying on some manly emotional level to get the modestly higher shot power offered by the .25 cal over the .22..

Since these airguns have adjustable regulators and power controls. I expect that many people would tune their power down from top maximum anyway when they are tracking down the most accurate velocity ranges for specific pellets. Just because an airgun can be opened up to 100fpe doesn't mean that it can't or shouldn't be powered down to 20fpe for practice. In my mind the biggest advancement of modern airguns, other than the move to PCP air, are the adjustable power options. I don't want an airgun that is stuck at ~100fpe, I want one that can be easily dialed between 10fpe and 100fpe.

The direct technical comparisons I'm looking for would be between a Slash, a Huben K1 and possibly a Leshiy 2.

Those are 3 of the big competitors in that size and power range of semi-auto airguns and many people on the forum have already had the opportunity to compare an L2 and a K1 for themselves. A person might be able to pick up a couple of used K1s in the classifieds for the price of a new Slash with a couple of spare slug magazines.

Will the Slash really be that much better than a K1? Will the L2 have a market battle in that price range?

The Slash probably won't be twice as good as a K1. And the folding modular design of the Leshiy 2 makes it very easy to work on and upgrade and more compact for transport compared to the Slash. But the main thing for me is that the Slash will be different than the K1 and the L2. That's what makes a new model release like this so inherently interesting from a technical perspective. And it's coming from an established company with a good reputation for quality. So I'm not as concerned about 1st release problems as I might be with some other manufacturers.

Of course it will also be nice to have a few removable Slash magazines in hand compared to manually loading a K1 when pellets run out.
The Leshiy 2s also have removable magazines. But it was easier for me to just leave the same magazine in the gun and to use a speed loader to refill it with a single twist of the loader.

N/A  Thinking of a high shot count .177

I already have an HW100 in this cal that I’ve got tuned to shoot at 16 FPE and it’s perfect for that application. What I’m thinking of is a low powered , 8 fpe ( 8.4 grain at 650fps) with a monster shot count. I’m not an airgun snob , but I refuse to buy a rifle from China and would prefer not to buy from Turkey either. Yes I know that’s going to limit what I can get my hands on.

Here’s the criteria and remember I’m up in Canukistan so I’m already pretty limited.
Bottle fed ,maybe 700cc if the bottle fits
Short-under 36”
Regulated
Under 7 lbs
Multi shot
Wood stock preferably

Here a couple rifles I have in mind.
HW100 with a dr.BOBs bottle adapter
RAW HM1000
FX boss /crown

What other rifles should I consider?
I can speak to 2 more fx guns the impact and dreamline. The impact I could probably tune to the best efficiency, but the dreamline wouldn't be far behind it.

I've been wanting a 177 dreamline compact tactical and cannot justify the price so I got. An old benjamin discovery, converted to 177 and trust thing let's me shoot for hours on what I consider " very little air"

Airforce  An Easy .177 Pellet Loading Solution for AirForce Airguns

I got tired of the shift in POI as pressure dropped so I regulate my AirForce rifles and use plenums. Either a Huben Power MAX-ATH (50cc plenum) or my home built plenum.

Right top to bottom
Top hat
M18 extension (tube diameter issue)
20 CM Shan Bao 3000 psi tube (M28 to M18 adapter included with tube)
Huben Power regulator lower 1/2 (just unscrews to M28 that screws into tube)
Huben Power U adapter
Trajectron angled adapter.
Bottle up to 1.6L (fat). 1.1L shown.

The 20cm tube and the rest after the regulator is a 150cc plenum. I can run my .25 condor at 1800psi and get almost 900fps. And shoot several hundred rounds at that pressure with a 1.1L.

.177 you only need a very small plenum. Huben Power Dream or MAX-ATH are plenty (25cc and 50cc plenum) but they add a bit more LOP than the U adapter setup depending on bottle used.

Pellet packing: Midway USA vs Pyramyd Air

I'm glad you had good luck. But they followed up one mistake with another, and then stopped responding when I told them and sent photos that the replacement pellets were shipped the same way and came damaged. This told me all I needed to know about this company.

I hear ya. I won't be ordering pellets from them in the future.... I'd rather not depend on luck when it comes to pellet shipping. Other than that... I've spent thousands and thousands of dollars with Midway for firearms items for many many years. I've never had a problem... ever. Fast shipping. No games with things being listed as "in stock" and not actually being in stock (like some merchants).

In the firearms world, Midway has an excellent reputation. A friend on the gun building forum I own just bought a new Marauder for a smokin' deal from Midway USA. It was a blemish model.... got it for under $500! Here's the blemish: A ding on the receiver in the port.

I paid $760 for my Marauder at Pyramyd (and no complaints). But he got his for a tick under $500!

Tuxing gaskets

Hey my tuxing compressor is leaking air at the bleed block.

At the blue arrow there is lil hole in the bleed block to release the air when you open the bleed screw and at this hole the air is constantly coming out. even with the bleed screw all the way screwed in.

I'm trying to figure out which gasket i need there. the ones i have as a spare don't seal/fit. its a white ptfe gasket. seems like the spare ones are not thick enough.

Tuxing itself just says its a white gasket...like the ones you have at the filters and hoses. but they are to thin :/ they fit in diameter but not in thickness

Check out this tread. Send a PM to K&L on here. It is what it took to get my part.

Man I would look at a red wolf standard. I had one in a PRS chassis for field target open class and it got a ton of shots at 20 pounds. No I don't know enough about the Redwolf and programming it to tell you how many that would be and it might be closer to 12 foot pounds. But I would think you would get to 200 shots or more easily.

But it don't meet your weight and length restriction
