What the heck happened to me?

I sucked a** today at the Delaware County Field & Stream HFT. Their course is hard and not for the faint of heart. Thanks goes to Mike for an awesome course. Thanks goes to Ms Tina...awesome woman and cook. Ok back to business...

I have a air arms prosport and I was shooting H & N FTT pellets. I zeroed my rifle in at 25 yards and made the proper range card from 10 to 20 in 1yd increments all the way to 55yds.My crosshairs are good from 20-37yds. My problem is that by my third lane my shots were grouping nice but nowhere near what my range card read. For example at 45 yards I am 1 Mil Dot Low below center crosshairs according to my range card and previous shootings sessions. Today my 45-yard shots were grouping nice but they were landing at crosshairs. Wtf??? So on my 5th Lane there was a sight in range behind me and I was allowed to check my rifle. I think that they gave me the benefit of a doubt because I was late coming there due to bad written directions from myself. Anyway I shoot at the 10us target and I'm a 1/2 mil dot off from what range card states. Then I shoot at the 25-yard Target and it took 8 clicks down to get back on my original zero.

Some of the guys there told me it might be due to the Heat and my stock which as we all should know along with humidity can contract and expand wood stocks. And after that I was still chasing my poi. Oh and the crazy part was after all this was that I shot at 25 yards again which is my zero and I was 1 full Mildot high. what gives?

My screws are tight. I understand that if you hold it different, different pressures, cheek weld so on and so forth can change the poi of these spring gun but my prosport is very forgiving so take that away for reasoning. I am also wondering something else.

Ok about 3wks ago I sent my Pro Sport back to Pyramid Air for warranty repair because it was very twenty. Gene said he replaced the piston and breach seals and that the rifle was very dry and applied the proper lubrication. Now this is an assumption/opinion. Maybe he applied or over applied heavy tar. Reason I'm saying that is because there is NO twang and maybe the heavy tar or excess heavy tar had made my rifle very temperature sensitive.

So what's your opinions?

--------------------------------------------------

HOW did you make your range card? (Procedure, temperature, time of day, etc.)

With my scope already having marked yardages I preceded to shoot at 1yd increments from 10-20yds. Then every 2-1/2yds to 30yds then every 5yds to 55yds. I shot 3 shot groups at every range I stated above and then seen where they landed in reference to my scopes reticle then record that to my range card. Temp? About 75°-80° in the shade arond 12pm-5pm

WHY did you choose the 25 yards as your zero?

Since I do not have a chronograph I figured that 25yds is pretty close to my apex of my trajectory so that I would only have hold over not hold under.

PLEASE explain: "My crosshairs are good from 20-37yds"

That I can hold dead on and that my poi from 20-37yds will be on center crosshairs

How many shots between PA's work and this match?

About a tin

Josh I'm just sit balling here since I don't shoot Field Target but ...Did you get a chance to chronograph the gun before POI shifts and after ? Because grease getting into the compression chamber can do weird poop to velocity readings. I found this out at the second Benchrest match I attended.
In a stroke of genius ( or so I thought ) I tore down the gun and slapped grease inside it like I was buttering a biscuit and my gun would shoot 4 outta 5 in the center , but that 5th shot would go NUTS and miss center by like 2 inches . It wasn't till I got back home and tore her back down did I realize that the grease had leached into the compression chamber and it was like honey In there .

Joe,
hey brother how's it going? Thanks for the response. Ok I don't have a chronograph so I ccould not tell you but when I got back home and the sun went down I set up a 25-yard target from my backyard to my living room and proceeded to shoot. It's still nice at 25 yards but now the point of impact was way low. Now if you now if you remember when my gun started going squirrely on me at the match it was shooting very high like 1 mil. High according to my Hawke Air Max 30 side Focus so I dialed it during the match which they allowed me to do 8 clicks down which brought me back to which brought me back to a 25-yard zero at the match in midday. Okay so now back at home I shot at 25 yards and my shots were low so I dialed and I'm back on my original 25 yard Target zero. So I was reading some of NC Ed opinions opinions and just like the conclusion I came to and John John Thomas also is that when PA got my gun I think that they used or should I say excessively used spring tar or something to deaden the twang of my rifle which therefore created a temperature-sensitive rifle which showed itself at the match yesterday. If you want to talk give me a call 484-328-3899 and thank you for responding brother
