What magnification at what distance?

IMO scopes are like blonds or brunettes, all personal preference. For years all I used on my powder burners was 3-9, then I bought a 4.5-14 and really liked it. The first one I put on my .22 rim fire, then I put one on my new 260 Remington deer rifle a few years ago. I shot one on my Diana 48 for a time but ended up going with n 8-32, for punching paper and plinking I like it too. At some point I'll buy something lighter and more fun to shoot than the 48, when I do it'll have a 4.5-14. For me the 4.5-14 is a good all around scope, 4.5 is fine for hunting and the 14 is fine for punching paper at the ranges I shoot air rifles.
