What have u shot this year with air rifles?

Hi All

I managed to get my hands on a Jackal M10 .25 Cal Chinese barrel and quickly installed it on to my Chinese SPA P12 Scorpion Air Rifle. A word of warning don’t do this a day before you are going hunting, its madness.

A trip to the local 30 m indoor shooting range, and a few shots over the chronograph gave me the following results:

JSB Kings (170 bar) 996, 998, 1009, 1012, 1012, 1012 fps
JSB King Heavy (170 bar) 921, 922, 921, 931, 929, 920 fps – that’s 64 fpe

On the first farm I managed to clock 6 Francolin with the King Heavies, but I could see that birds shot under 50 m, would take a few drunken steps and then fall over dead. Birds shot at app. 75 m and further it was lights out.

I drove to the second farm and managed to pick up 2 more Francolin and my first Guineafowl with an air rifle. The Guineafowl was shot at app. 85 m, the heavy whacked him like a sledge hammer.

From 10h00 the Rock Pigeons come and sit on the pump station power lines and one has shooting all day.

So far, I am very impressed shooting King Heavies at 920 fps, I normally shoot JSB Beast 16.2 gr .177 out of a HW 100 barrel at 925 fps. The first pigeon at 30 m took a heart/lung shot and flew off for 100 m then died. I sent my GSP “Roxie” for a retrieve and this proceeded to happen now and then over the next 10 shots.

I tried JSB Kings with the same result, so I fished a tin of Samyang domed pellets out of my shooting box and they were very effective in killing pigeons but I missed more than I shot. Pellet brand number 4, JSB Polymag’s a quick re-zero and I was good to go. First pigeon up, I could see through the scope how the pigeon was instantly killed and how the pellet actual picks the pigeon off the line a flings it backwards - Awesome.

Man, JSB should have call their Polymag’s “Hammer of Thor” and not Predator. I spent the rest of the day shooting pigeons with polymag’s doing over 1000 fps. I didn’t have one pigeon flying off and dying elsewhere and did I mention that they also grouped very well.

In conclusion I realised that I am shooting the King Heavies too fast at 920 fps (64 fpe) for pigeons at 30 m. I have dialled my P12 down to 820 fps (50 fpe) and will keep you posted on my next hunt trip, which should be this weekend.

Lost count exactly, but somewhere around 10 or so squirrels...including a few fatty greys. All greys and blacks around here. All equally destructive.

Shot with my circa 1986 Crosman bb/pellet Co2 rifle.

Haven't seen any for a couple months or more now? So I'm in a resupply phase of the War On Squirrels...building up my ammo and just got a new .22 Gamo last week also. Bought a new, slightly bigger red dot sight for my Sig Sauer MCX .177. Or might throw that on the old Crosman, instead of the iron sights?

The next time I see one they'll be looking down the business end of my MCX .177 or Gamo .22! ☺
