What happens if you shoot an airtank?

Foolish fool. I wonder if he would be so cavalier about sitting next to a tank he just shot and yapping at the camera, after seeing the violent reaction from the depressurized tanks? It would not be healthy to be in close proximity to such an event.

He reminds me of the dumb butt that shot a hydrogen bottle with a 30-06 tracer round at about 50 yards. I suspect he never knew what hit him. Nonetheless, he did win a Darwin award albeit posthumously.

Very informative. 5oo fpe with a lead slug left a large mark on the first bottle but no other damage. It took a FIREARM with a FULL METAL JACKET round in .308(don't know the load) to puncture the bottle(s). While it shows shooting a HPA tank with a firearm is not safe, any tossling around in the back seat, trunk or truck box/bed will do little more than cosmetic damage to the bottle. While previous posts are discouraging of this video, I find it very informative and a bit of an eye opener to the nay sayers of HPA Carbon Fiber wrapped air tanks.

My opinion is twofold. First......Im impressed and reassured at the durability of these scba tanks. I was however gritting my teeth as he sat next to the bottle he just shot......knowing that if that tank gave way he would be toast.

+1 on the Darwin award. With the fire arm round one of the bottles comes back almost to the shooters position; a few feet more and concussion or worst would have been the outcome. As for checking out the bottles after shooting with the Texan: pure madness.

Tanks are built like tanks, when I hear people comment on the tank being expired I laugh it is usually by someone who makes money selling them. I spent 20 years playing paintball watching tanks break peoples fall watching them smack against steel wood and concrete. If they were bombs do you think a firefighter would put one on his back and go into a burning building. They are made to fail through controlled discharge not explode with shrapnel.

Good post. After seeing the video I feel a lot safer. I do a lot of traveling with a 4500 psi CF tank and every time it goes in the truck I wonder how it would hold up if damaged in an auto accident.

They are bombs. VERY well built bombs. You need to respect them. But unless you're an idiot they're safe to use if used properly.

Wow! That's about all I can say. Very informative. Even though you were pretty far away it looked like it almost came back and nailed you. I have often wondered the same thing about a bursting air cylinder but never wanted to try it.

I was scratching my head when I saw that silly video. He went from posting a decent review of the FX Wildcat to shooting high pressure carbon fiber air tanks. Bizarre and foolish. Word of advice: Never shoot high pressure vessels and never shoot balls (golf balls, bowling balls, basket balls, etc.).
