Vintage Crosman 600

Bought this awhile back, just got a chance to shoot it today. It appears to be nearly NIB, very low serial number possible made in 1960. I can get about 25 full power shots per co2 cartridge. It only shoots @ 310 average & highs of 325 with Crosman 14.3 domes or H & N Sport 13.7. The H & N group at 1" & less, while the Crosmans are 1.5". I have only shot it @ 30'. This is the first one I have owned, the other one, I got at about the same time did not function, sent it to Mac 1 for repair and longer barrel. Think I am going to keep this one as is. Lots of fun & decent accuracy at close range.

Nutcracker, that is an awesome 600 what a fun gun. A real semi-auto air pistol that rolls water bottles with the best of them. You forget how good the trigger is on that 50 year old AG. The best shot count I get out of mine is 30 shots give or take with all new seals.

Tim McMurray of Mac 1 Airguns knows his stuff, although not the fastest turn around time. Be interested to hear how your modified Mac 1 600 shoots.

Well I bought another 600, it arrived today. It was tuned by David Gunter a few years back. With the original barrel it was shooting H&N Sports 380 fps. I bought a 12.5 inch barrel on ebay w/ it is shooting at 500 & a high of 510. I had some dovetail rail that I got from Brownells & put it on today as well. At first I used both the barrel grub screw hole & the rear sight hole. But after removing the scope base to clear a jam, decided to shorten the base. Won't need to do that again. Had to drill&tap a hole for the forward hole.

I just put those grips on Vernon Austin made for me. WOW, those are fantastic, not only do they look great, they are so functional. I can tell already just shooting 60 shots, that my control has greatly improved. I thought the originals were not bad, but these are fantastic. I just ordered two more sets. These little guns are so fun to shoot. I am going thru co2 cartridges like crazy. See how this goes, I might go bulk. So far both of them like the H&N Sport best.

@Nutcracker
This is my LD with the Austin grips in Bolivian rosewood. It is by far the most accurate air pistol I own. It shoots close to 1/2" groups at 50 yard shooting .22 JSB Jumbos. I'm still not use to shooting a hangy tank. It will shoot sub inch groups at 50 yards with a CO2 12g cartridge. They are getting rare and the wait on mine was close to 6 months because of the 14" barrel. I highly recommend one if you get another opportunity.

Thanks. The cool thing is that the LD uses both hpa, CO2 cartridges or it can use smaller CO2 refillable tanks. The hangy hpa tank is regulated to 1000 psi or 850 psi so you can shoot it in cool weather. Tim has the valve tuned to maximum efficiency so the AG is very quiet.

I put a UTG 2-7x44 mil-dot scout scope with a 30mm tube to gather more light to shoot at longer distances. The eye relief is 10" but that works well with that platform.

I bought a 600 a couple of years ago at the N.C. Airgun Show. The seals were toast so I handed it off to Sue Smith of Airgun Hobbyist for reseal. It was shooting great but the last time I shot it started jamming. Hopefully it will be an easy fix. I just bought the Crosman 600 book from Amazon on Kindle that has a copy of the shop manual in it and everything you ever wanted to know about a 600. Pricy but something you may be interested in reading.

I'm not sure about nitrogen, but you get so many shots with tank(~200 shots) that you don't need to tether. The hangy tank comes regulated,usually at 850 psi with 1000 psi being max. You choose pressure when ordering. The tank comes with a fitting that you exchange with provided stock CO2 cartridge cap. I chose the hpa tank over the CO2 tank because it's cheaper to shoot and not affected by temperature. You charge it like any PCP with Foster fitting.

I don't have my notes in front of me but thinking I get around 200 shots off of fill or you can take tank and fitting off and shoot CO2 12g cartridges. Because of valve work it's efficient with 12g CO2 cartridges and accurate. I just don't recall how many shots.

If if you have a Crosman Mark 1 or 11 the hangy tank and fitting works with them also.
