UPS Warning

"RuideCastro"I know what you been trough. only too well.
here in portugal happens the same the the spainish corriers SEUR operating here. taking the weekend aside, I´ve been stuck at home for the last four days. for the delivery of some stuff I got from Amozon UK.
they started by sending me an e-mail saying that they would deliver on august the second, then on the the fourth. so far nothing, yet on the tracking system they´ve got as delivered to the client!!!!
try to get in touch with them and waiting for someone to actually talk to you , you are forced to , for up to twenty minutes forced to listen their crappy services. eventually a lady comes and says that the driver, mistankingly pressed the wrong digit and the parcel was given as handed over to me, and ended up in the warehouse again!!!
They still don´t know when they´ll pass by again!!!
what do you think of that hey?
all in all you were twice lucky, first ans foremost nobody nicked your parcel and secondly , you actually got it delivered.
It's all about keeping promises for me. I can deal with virtually anything, but don't micturate down my back and tell me it's raining.

"John_in_Ma"This may be a bit OT, but marcella, does anything ever please you or do you complain about everything? Did you get your gun, was it in good shape inside the package, can't you be happy with what you have? I'm just curious, not trying to be a dick. Carry on.
I'm like the outlaw Josey Wales; my words of death are true, therefore my words of life must also be true (so to speak). I calls 'em as I sees 'em, good and bad. I can support every assertion I've ever made on AGN with evidence. You obviously are not familiar with the gestalt of my posts (or don't care). I've made plenty of positive comments. It never fails to amaze me why anyone would have any problem with objectively true statements of fact.

Whether it was UPS or Fed-Ex, I used to even have packages of home brewing stuff, or air rifle stuff, on my porch when I woke up around 7 or 7:30 in the A of M. Not for a year or so now has that happened. They decided I'm (obviously) the end of the line delivery after a few runs from near Ford in Brookpark (Cleveland suburb) to me in Sheffield. Even though a hub is in Elyria, a couple miles from me? I could made the repairs/ mods in the time I waited for the parts to show up and then some these days. Some bent corners, creases around the middle (gun box, WTF?), all that stuff. Then some show up lickety-split, in pristine condition around lunch time?...talk bout a crap shoot...

Amen, brother!

"Nueces"My regular driver is a prince and I give him a generous 'christmas present' every year. He always calls me when I have an important package. But his fill-in drivers are a total crap shoot. I've spoken with him and he hates the way UPS deals with this. He says every time he goes on vacation it takes him two weeks to straighten out his route and mollify his customers. I'm sure just about everyone who really uses UPS feels the same way. BUT ... FedEx is worse.

The best way to deal with this is to pressure the companies that ship with UPS. Every time there is a problem we should let them know and let them know we are very unhappy with the situation.
I think it's situationally dependent as to which company is worse. I've had great and terrible experiences with both companies. Specifically, the UPS drivers on my route are just amazing, but the most totally destroyed package I ever got was also from UPS. Even the driver was embarrassed when he tried to drop it off. I say "tried" because I rejected the package outright, refusing to accept delivery of something so mangled.

Bottom line here is that you have to make sure the SELLER is doing their job and taking extra special care when packaging.

My wife works at USPS. She gets more complaints about the UPS store up the street then you can imagine.
1 price huge difference MUCH CHEAPER at USPS.
2 UPS store brings the packages down to USPS to send at the end of the day. These are packages that people pay UPS store extra to send a lot extra.
So for a test take your package and get a price for delivery by UPS then take it to USPS and get a price there for the same delivery. It will knock your socks off the difference.
Customers give her a hard time about delivery costs at USPS until they go to the UPS store and get a price. She tells them once you go to the UPS store you will be back.

I called UPS about getting my shipping cost refunded for having to drive over to the UPS store to pick up my package. No joy. Fortunately, the vendor facilitated a refund.

I retired from FedEx Ex as a supervisor at the PHL airport. I don't use Fed Ex to ship for my guns or business. It's a location thing for me in NC.

I use UPS and made sure I had a relationship with my regular driver. He knows what is being delivered with respect of the air guns. He even show an interest. Yes, I get the sub driver once in a while too.

I have gotten mangled boxes and sad to say more from Fed Ex than UPS.

It will always depend on the boxing and packing. My business is metal field targets with sharp parts and heavy. I over pack expecting the rough handling of the loaders, belts, container stuffing, etc.

Unfortunately, other companies don't take as much care because of huge volumes.

You can make an account with UPS online for free. You can make a shipment, pack it, download the label, etc.

For me I then take it to the local shipping center or an actual UPS location. No pickup at my place. This saves money...

I always open a box that is damaged in front of the driver and take phone photos prior to doing so. This is helpful when having the shipper file an insurance claim. As the receipant, you can't file the claim with UPS. You only can call the shipper and complain. This is the reason for the photos. It will help the shipper's claim.

Another point is to insure your shipment!
They allow $100 with no charge and a small fee if sending an expensive rifle or the like. I also take photos of my packing before shipping a rifle or expensive item.
Face it folks...You can expect the possibility of damaged boxes, wrong delivery addresses, pkgs left on your doorstep, etc. Putting a "Signature required" service on the pkg should help, but expect the worst. That way you will be happy when all goes well.

Daily, Each night, the shipping companies, Fed Ex, UPS, and USPS, move well over a million packages around the country PER SHIPPER!
I am not defending the shippers by a long shot. I am suggesting that you expect, with that much handling, things to get handled rough at times. Dad but a fact.....

strikefast, thank you so much for that comprehensive and detailed explanation! It gave me a rare insight from an insider. I will take your advice to heart :)

Marcella, most folks don't have an idea what the packages go through in the case of overnight and 2 day,

Thee package is picked up and flys to Memphis around 11:00 PM local. Then it is placed in the system and sorted to the destinations in a 3 hour time frame. Again over a million packages in that building.

Then it is reloaded onto another plane and sent on to the destination to arrive early in the morning. Then sorted to the surrounding cities..Then each city has to sort the boxes to each delivery stop. quite an operation to see first hand. Memphis is the hub for Fed Ex. And that is not counting the ground packages that don't fly but are trucked between cities by tractor trailer. UPS is the same....

Again not excusing the carriers. Just letting you know that personally, I expect that a box or doz will get some bruises..lol

That's why God invented lawyers. I think this is what happened to my last package:

You're right ashes5. I found that out recently with the UPS Store up on the corner and the USPS some 3M east in old Avon, OH. Something like $6.79 @ USPS for 2-3 day pony express, like 30 bucks at the UPS store up the street. And I was shipping a Optima 3-9x32 scope back to Hatsan for warranty service. It came with the Striker 1000x .22 I ordered last October. Funny thing is, I had it mounted on that Crosman 160 Pellgun I restored. Very little recoil, and it still lost the ability to hold zero after maybe 100 rounds. But it waited until I was shooting a 10yd competition to fubar.
Anyway, I was really shocked at the difference in price for a light-weight box some 6x8x12 or so. All the bubble wrap I used to pack it tight, and it still weighed like 1lb, 4ozs or so. Light as a feather. Damned UPS lady at the store didn't wanna ship "GUN" parts. O...M...GOOOOOD~!@@##@$$%!! sorta response. Geez. She didn't wanna listen to the fact that it was just the scope.
But, Hatsan the rep was a real nice young fella about the whole thing. Sent me a new one with new caps and sight-through mounting rings.
