Word to the wise: Do not trust UPS to deliver your high-end air rifle that requires signature to an alternative drop-off location. The scheduled delivery date of my new RAW HM 1000x .357 (130 ft-lbf regulated), $2,370 on the hoof, happened to fall on the last day of the California Bar Exam for which I was sitting. I logged-on to my UPS My Choice account and specified that the rifle be delivered to a local USP Store for pick-up. Not only did UPS completely ignore this so-called choice, it delivered the rifle to my home address when I was not home. It propped the long box against the wall outside my door vertically whereby it could have easily been knocked over. Further, no signature was obtained. I came home this, discovering that the rifle had been sitting there for over four hours during which it could have easily been stolen.

It's actually UPS "Their" Choice! I paid for a guaranteed delivery window for an order of Airguns. They came 4 hours late which caused me to miss a scheduled engagement and UPS told me that all the "Choices" are if it is convenient for UPS logistics and the Driver that there was actually no guarantee AT ALL! The whole My Choice program is a marketing scam!

You're preachin' to the choir, brother!

"kk4iz"Have not been having too muck trouble with damage boxes from UPS at our vacation home except for the last few weeks. They look like the truck ran over them, my reg. driver must be on vacation. We had 2 package from Home Depot at home here and both were damage.
A lot of it has to do with your location and the management there. I live in a border town in SoCal and I'm on every carrier's end-of-the line route. Every delivery is a moon shot.

It is not just UPS.. This was courtesy of USPS.

"Mousefart"The last thing u need to have worried about is the box getting knocked over on your porch. I am in the shipping business and assure you that your box went through a lot more than that Before it ever saw your porch.
That's why I was doubly distressed that RAW ships these extremely expensive and fragile rifles without a hard case in corrugated fiberboard containers. I used to work in a box plant that manufactured such containers and they are not suited for the shipment of such goods without added protection.

I guess in might be what part of the country it's coming from and the terminals it goes through. I have pretty good luck with UPS, on the other hand ( for me ) FedEx is a killer . If I purchase from PA, FedEx is used and on almost every occasion the package is damaged.

I purchased a Hawke Sidwinder scope from them and when it was delivered, not only was the box damaged but the scope INSIDE the box was turned.Do you have any idea how much it would take to move a scope inside a Hawke box when it's foam is cut out to fit the scope exactly ?

I was worried the scope was damaged but it wasn't. This is common coming from PA to Connecticut. Evidently whatever terminal the packages go through coming from there, the workers could care less about their responsibility .

I just had a workbench delivered from FedEx, and the box was filthy and all chewed up.

I had a mailbox at a UPS Store for several years and on at least three occasions the package had an incorrect address exception. Every time, the address was correct. UPS just had trouble finding the UPS Store. I had to call the local UPS hub and read them the address off of the UPS website. I even had the driver call me once saying he was at some kind of strip mall and wanted to know what store it was.

My regular driver is a prince and I give him a generous 'christmas present' every year. He always calls me when I have an important package. But his fill-in drivers are a total crap shoot. I've spoken with him and he hates the way UPS deals with this. He says every time he goes on vacation it takes him two weeks to straighten out his route and mollify his customers. I'm sure just about everyone who really uses UPS feels the same way. BUT ... FedEx is worse.

The best way to deal with this is to pressure the companies that ship with UPS. Every time there is a problem we should let them know and let them know we are very unhappy with the situation.

I know what you been trough. only too well.
here in portugal happens the same the the spainish corriers SEUR operating here. taking the weekend aside, I´ve been stuck at home for the last four days. for the delivery of some stuff I got from Amozon UK.
they started by sending me an e-mail saying that they would deliver on august the second, then on the the fourth. so far nothing, yet on the tracking system they´ve got as delivered to the client!!!!
try to get in touch with them and waiting for someone to actually talk to you , you are forced to , for up to twenty minutes forced to listen their crappy services. eventually a lady comes and says that the driver, mistankingly pressed the wrong digit and the parcel was given as handed over to me, and ended up in the warehouse again!!!
They still don´t know when they´ll pass by again!!!
what do you think of that hey?
all in all you were twice lucky, first ans foremost nobody nicked your parcel and secondly , you actually got it delivered.

Every carrier with which I've contracted has been negligent.

I do not have any "regular" drivers. I live in a border town and I am on a shunt route with the USPS (different letter carrier every day; some are dressed in street clothes and drive their own personal cars!) I am on the end-of-the-line with every other carrier. This makes te chances of receiving a package in an effective and efficient manner slim to none, and Slim just left town.
