NEW: Texans and Texas Hunters Please petition TPWD to allow Airguns for Hunting

I have now petitioned the TPWD via their website to allow Big Bore Airguns of .357 and larger for taking of legal game animals in Texas.

If you are a Texan please do the same.

I suggest mentioning safety over that obtained with firearms particularly in congested areas.

Better safety for livestock since most Texas hunting is via private land.

Also mention that many airgun projectiles do not pass completely through larger game animals while many firearm bullets do.

Not passing through allows total projectile energy to be expended in the animal resulting in ethical game harvesting at much lower foot pounds of energy.

You might reference other states that have allowed Big Bore game hunting .... such as Arizona and others.

Lets work together to make Airgun Game harvesting in Texas a reality!

Guys the time is right. I just received this from the TPWD:

Thurmond,

Your question is very timely! TPWD has a meeting with Crosman Airgun corporation next week to demo several of the big bore airguns and the airbows and discuss the possibility of allowing the use of this type of weapon to harvest big game in Texas. If the Department believes these type of weapons would be acceptable for big game hunting we would propose a regulation change and move through the regulatory process to adopt such a change. Keep in mind the regulatory process is somewhat lengthy and could take months to complete. Obviously, not something that would happen for this upcoming hunting season. Thanks for your interest in this new technology and potential application to big game hunting in Texas. If you have any question feel free to call or check in on the progress of consideration for the use of airguns in the future.

Thanks,

Alan

If you are a Texas hunter Please contact the TPWD via the above link in the first post of this thread NOW!

Next on my agenda is getting rules changed to allow taking Quail in Texas with airguns.

Edit: 24 Aug 2017 .... I have obtained the contact information for the Quail Team Leader. In addition the White Tail Team Leader said he will also let the Quail Team leader know there is interest in using airguns for quail hunting. I always thought it was a little silly letting an ounce or more of shot go just to kill a tiny bird. Many quail are wounded and some rendered unfit for consumption by too many shot. Precision pellet guns are the way to go all around!

Air Force has been made aware of the meeting between Crosman and TPWD next week so hopefully they can participate or get another session to demonstrate "Bigger Bore" guns!
(thanks Willie)

Texas Parks will allow people to kill feral hogs from helicopters yet classify them as exotic game which prevents airguns from being used to hunt them. Directorship of TPWD is a political appointment which makes Texas somewhat late(think 10 years late) in moving on game laws.
I am a Texas air gunner and I have submitted my request for air gun hunting. I am also 69 years old so I hope it doesn't take another 10 years to O.K. this.
