An old Weaver V22-A 3-6 scope from the 70's I pulled off another rifle to put on the Crosman 160;

Just eyeballin' it for size;

Since the Crosman 160's are Co2 powered, no springer recoil worries here, so this regular rifle scope should be fine? I wonder if the Benjamin adaptor mounts for .565" receiver would work on the 160?

Got an answer to an e-mail I'd sent to Ron Robinson. He has a slightly used set of his scope mounts to fit my Weaver V22-A to my Crosman 160 he's selling me! Paypal'd him a lil while ago. OORAH! I didn't know he was a national champ with a model 160 & V22 scope like mine? Cool to get the mounts I need from the man Hisself!

Soon, I'll be getting some more goodies delivered. An Outdoor Connection 2 piece leather bench rest bag set. Also, since I already have Gamo Rockets in .22 cal for the Crosman 160, I'll also be getting RWS Field Line Superpoint Extra's in .22 cal @ 14.5gr-250 cnt, & H&N Baracuda Green domed pellets in .22 cal @ 12.65gr. I'll be getting that lower valve to tube hole re-tapped & finding a 25 yard range to test these three pellets in the 160 to see which is the most accurate. I thought to site-in the scope with the middle ground Gamo Rockets @ 14.3gr to start with. Then test the Baracudas, then on to the Superpoints @ 14.5gr. I'm trying to find a good middle ground between muzzle velocity & accuracy. Over & above scope adjustments.

Well, Baker air guns, whom I got the seal kit from. doesn't have a new gas valve assembly, after telling me I couldn't re-tap old valve screw hole. Valve assembly from Archer will work, they say? I contacted them about it, asking if their exhaust valve/stem assembly will fit the original valve body assembly? Looks the same internally? Wanna get this gun going already...

Update; A fellow member from FL is going to have a look at the gas valve assembly & see if he can fix the one striped mounting bolt hole in the exhaust valve end. Just sent it off today. It'd be nice if he could squeeze some more power out of it, but we'll see. Hate to see such a pretty rifle in pieces, but darn it, I wanna shoot this lil tack driver. I also ordered an assembly kit from Archer, just to get some new screws & toothed washers for the QB78 that fit.

Can't wait to get the parts.

Optimistic that it can be made servicable. You've put a ton of tlc into it which I admire. Can't wait to see your progress after I send your re-worked valve back.

First step is to make it functional. I can ensure the screw threads are good, the stem is a good fit with modest flow improvement. Somewhat reluctant to increase volume too much, since shot count may suffer, not to mention not being able to simultaneously match the transfer port path all the way to the barrel bore.

So we'll get that valve back to optimized stock spec's so you can see which of your pellets groups as good as she looks!!!!

Hope you found all your parts. If not try Rick Willnecker. Precision Pellet, Contact him at http://www.airgunshop.net/ or call 717-382-1481. Email [email protected] .
If there is a hole in the bottom of the barrel about where the barrel band might go you do have the 1st variant and that takes a spacer 160-11. It looks like your stock is not cut out for the barrel band.

I was told by Crosman that without barrel band & the stamped steel trigger guard, I do indeed have the Variant one model 160, 1955-56. No hole, no spacer, since none of that was used on variant one, according to them. Save for the screw with the toothed washer that goes through the base of the receiver cut-out in the end of the barrel. That uses a tube-like seal where it goes into the gas tube between the receiver & Co2 gas tube. I did save all the parts you sent me, Mike. Thanks for asking.
And the boys didn't follow my instructions to send the box Priority, but sent it " first class domestic", & they say it'll be there this Friday, 1/27/17. And Ziabeam, I messaged you the tracking number & such. I've read/heard from archer that they can increase it to 750FPS with the paint ball bottle mod. But that always looks to me like a 180/QB stock was used for that modification. More Muzzle velocity would definitely be an improvement. I personally do not at all think that paint ball bottle is needed. Just use the two 12g Co2 powerlets & wouldn't mind decreasing shot count from 50 or so down to 30-40 shots. So you're welcome to make whatever flow improvements you can to the valve assembly. Here's another idea I discussed on Facebook air rifle pages. Look at the end of the long part of the valve where the white seal is (new seal from Mike, btw). See that dished out area? It works like the dished area of a piston dome in an engine. So machining, say .002" off on one side, actually giving .004", being a circle, would slightly increase the actual amount of Co2 being compressed the way the end of the gas valve works.
And yeah, I did put in a couple months, while taking extra time to record it on Youtube videos, to restore the rifle. Went over everything in the rifle. I will definitely be posting some videos of sighting in-shooting it at the range, if they permit it? I really have to give thanks to you, Mike & all the others that offered advice on this project. Having shot one that belonged to a family friend as a teen (this one?), I'm really excited to shoot it once more! * Saved the link you gave as well, Mike. That'll come in handy, I'm sure. By the way, what lube would be best on the valve assembly, hammer/cocking pistons, etc when I reassemble it?

Unionrdr I think your communicating with someone with Baker Air Guns which I haven't nothing to do with them. As far as what Crosman told you I think they maybe wrong. If you talk to Rick Willnecker he has been repair air guns for 40 years and been a Crosman Service Center that long and he knows a lot of stuff about the older Crosman, Benjamin and Sheridan. By the way you did a great job refinishing the 160.

By the way try not to expect stellar results from 2 of the pellet samples you are experimenting with. In particular the ones with the 'bb' type nose insert. They may work well for you, but I don't recall ever seeing them give great accuracy.

Edit;
In other words don't be disheartened until you've tried more conventional pellets if meaningful accuracy is part of your quest.

Oh, I thought you were that Mike Baker. My bad. Took another look at the bottom of the barrel, & it does indeed have a small hole in it I hadn't taken notice of. Don't have a spacer though? I'll have to look at the diagram again. and the bag of assembly parts I just got in today from Archer. There's the whitish tubular seal about 1/8" long that goes on the breach screw where it goes through the gas tube into the exhaust valve end. A harder material than given with the other seal kit. Have to see what it looks like in the diagram? I'm looking forward to trying the H&N Baracuda greens moreso than the Gamo rockets. From reading on the forums & Facebook air gun pages, I have noticed there are lighter lead pellets than the Greens @ 12.65gr. Like 10.6 or so.
This rifle definitely needs more velocity. And since it carries more FPE to POI, being .22cal, that should be a good thing. I'd like to push POI from some 37.6yds to 50yds, long story short. I hope the package does get to ziabeam tomorrow. I'm obviously interested in it's being able to be put back into service as an original part. Making the rifle a bit more original, let alone more valuable. Not like I'm going to sell it or anything. But it will eventually be inherited by one of my sons. Not to be morbid or anything.
Just can't wait to shoot again. Just shooting them out the patio door a couple times after first time bore cleaning put a smile on my face once more...
