Straight Skinny -- What the user base believes about ATN

"Ginuwine1969"I hear a lot of complaints about customer service, and not much about the scope itself.
Yeah, I think the general feeling in management at ATN is that they will get around to fixing stuff in the long term but their customer service just plain sucks. I have not been impressed with their customer service or sales reps at any level. Now that LRF is a very nice bit of kit and well worth the money. Just my two.

The X-Sight works but the developers take two steps forward and one back on each release. I am just tired of futzing with it. The one I have has shown itself to be mechanically very solid. I am just tired of dealing with firmware issues that should have been fixed already. Eventually they will get it and ATN just doesn't seem to give a damn when.

Then they started hiding posts on the Facebook forum about the use of the sight being illegal in Colorado. That just crossed a line for me that I can't get behind. You can not legally use the sight in most states for any game animal. Some states allow it for animals like coyotes, hogs, maybe racoons etc. ATN is doing all they can to squash that information on their FB page. So... I'm out.

Oldspook (my old friend :) ) I have been following the 'progress' of ATN for years and years, in fact from a time when they or their distributers laughed at Digital Night Vision equipment.
Let's start with the name ... (& I'll break it down into 2 parts :) )

ATN used to stand for American Technology Network,

'American Technology'...

which is odd because the two guys who set it up are from the former Russian / USSR 'superstate' but now operate out of Western USA.
which is odd because most of their tubed (old-fashioned) NV gear is sourced from the former USSR etc etc
which is odd because most of their NV 'tubes' (the expensive, old-fashioned parts) were/are made in the former USSR (Belarus, I believe)

'Network'
The company seems to operate a kind of Franchise Scheme for it's dealers - Dealers are offered an Area and expected to do pretty much everything in that area
The company does not deal with the Public despite claiming to do so usually hiding behind the above Dealers
The company products have in the past had a shocking record for quality (basically, they rarely, if ever, met the specifications shown on the ATN website)

All the above was a 'Known' back in the bad old days of vacuum tubed NightVision (the old very expensive gear :) ). It may well NOT apply now the have seen the light ( ;-) ) and gone mainstream with Digital NV.

:) I had to go about reading old accuracy points to figure out your reference. :) You sir, are a good sport! Thanks for the information about the founders of ATN, it explains some of the oddities I've seen in my contacts with them via EMail.

"Mousefart"So...for those of you who are more experienced than myself with scopes: Should the point of aim be changing with diopter focus? I can see at least an inch of vertical variation at 50 yds.
Not sure what you are talking about but the reticle moves when you change the magnification. It should not be moving when you adjust the focus lense on the back of the ATN. A factory reset is pretty much mandatory and if you are not running the most recent firmware you might want to install that.

Diopter is just fancy-speak for eyepiece. So, yeah...I think there's some bad glass in mine. I will experiment some more to see if it's a problem worth sending the unit back for.

That is interesting. This is the first time I've heard of that issue. It won't affect your zero because the "diopter" only focuses your view of the image and the reticle is placed into the image before the image is displayed on the video screen. That said, I wouldn't want one that had that "feature" and I'd return it for a replacement.
