Springer barrel seal o-ring

Other than running pellets thru it to see what FPS it's shooting, I'm still waiting for a scope and rings for my "new to me" Pro Sport that I bought from a forum member, before I can actually do some shooting. It apparently spent most of its life in the case. It has occurred to me that an under lever springer that uses an oring barrel seal like the Pro Sport and TX200, that doesn't see much use and/or any time it's stored, should probably be stored with the cocking lever unstowed and held in a position as to hold the piston sleeve slightly backed off of the seal oring just enough to prevent flattening of the oring during periods of storage. Seems to me that would help prevent premature failure and leakage at that point.

I'm going to replace that oring and then, when it's stored, I'm using a paracord keyfob that works good to wedge between the cocking lever and stock to hold it in an unstowed position just enough to remove spring pressure off of the oring.

Thoughts?
