Scope Cam Setup

Here is short clip of my first (decent) attempt at shooting with my scope cam. I'm using the Exilim EX-ZR1100 camera with the Orion Steadypix deluxe mount. The gun is my .22 Disco shooting JSB 15.8 pellets, scope is the Leapers 4x9x40. The wind was really gusting from right to left so the group was pretty poor.

It was really overcast so I'm hoping that contributed to the cloudy image I was getting. I was having trouble getting the target and reticle to both be clear without the mildots getting too large. Any tips are appreciated!

"smooth.pull"Yep , having the same problem , I can press the shutter button down half way , the cross hair are clear but not the background , can not get both clear , could it be the cross hair are to thick ?
I watched this video Ted did on scope cams and he addressed this issue. But the set button on my camera stopped working so I sent it back for repair/replacement so I've not really been able to test it myself yet.

Keep in mind that your are focusing ON the crosshairs - then focus the scope to get a focused target.

The ZR-1100 has a manual focus mode - I use it, and once set it doesn't need adjustment. I turn the camera on and the crosshairs are in focus. I then need to focus the target and shoot.

There is also an adjustment to have the camera remember where it was zoomed when you turn the power on - that is also helpful.

Here's what my set-up looks like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuOh2_Dj95Y

I hope that helps - KZ

KZ, i've heard mention of this feature several times but am unable to find it anywhere. Can you point me in the right direction? I have an EX-ZR800 as well as EX-ZR1100.

I'm looking at the Orion SteadyPix Deluxe Mount, and hope you can help me. How much eye relief does it allow (my scope has 4" eye relief so including the Casion Exilim it would have to be more than that to focus correctly)? Will it hold up to heavy shock? I have a hot rodded AirForce Condor. I shoot at 3400 PSI for 547 yard shooting with 90 grain slugs and may go to higher pressure for 800 meter shooting. My gun has about a 2" kick, so what works in a gentle environment might not work for me. I'd love it if it does, as it would simplify the process. I was thinking of building a DIY mount using a scope shade, but in buy or build I tend to like things I can buy. Thanks in advance for any help you give.

I'm not really sure what the eye relief is on it but it was enough for the three different scopes I tried it on. It comes with four small rubber pads to hold it on the scope and they are total crap. They slip and let the mount tilt up and down with the weight of the camera. I took mine off and tried electrical tape but that slipped also. I finally didn't use anything and was able to tighten the adjustment knob down enough to make it work for me. I probably wouldn't trust it on your Condor to hold position if it has that much recoil. I think the design would work better if they used three set screws to mount it on the scope instead of just the one.

I ended up ordering the Eagle Vision mount. Unfortunately I had to send my Exilim back for repair and haven't gotten to try it out yet.

"uncledevo"Thank you very much. I'm looking at a less expensive and possibly superior alternative Gosky Full Metal Telescope Camera adapter. Looks like a similar design, so who knows? I guess I should look at the Eagle Vision mount as well.
The only thing I thought was a little cheesy about the Eagle Vision is he recommends you epoxy the ring on that mounts to the camera. For the price, simple set screws in the ring would make more sense to me than applying epoxy to the front of your camera. I drilled and tapped screws in my ring and will attach it that way...when I get the camera back.

Good luck whichever way you go!

"pbguns"This helped with my orion mount.....in the end I still scrapped using it because it wasn't stable enough for me.
This did help keep the jaws from moving when it was tightened.
It was sturdier (with less pressure) using the added fasteners and slots to help keep the jaws aligned.

Yeah I saw this mod you did right after I got the mount...nice job btw! I'm just keeping this as a backup to the EagleVision mount...now if I can just get my camera back!
