Replacement Stock for Gen 1 Marauder.

First off have you weighed your stock? I have 3 different Gen 1 stock and they are between 2lb 13 oz and 2lb 7oz. A LOT of the MRod weight is in the tube itself. When I was looking at stocks like the Boyd's people were telling me 2lb plus. So that's not much weight loss. What I did was put my 2lb 9oz stock on a diet. Right now it is just about 1lb 9oz. Took almost a lb of wood and finish with a rasp and orbital sander. Still needs a couple more coats of Tru-Oil.

I was toying with the idea of cutting a rectangle out of the rear or taking the bottom off to make it look like my BSA.

Here's another example of a cut-down stock. I bought it used from the guy who did the work. It's no where near as nice as Big tin boat's, but it balanced well and was comfortable.

The bedliner that was used got soft after contact with skin oils, so I started scraping it off-that's the light area on the comb. I got a thumbhole Walnut stock for it later and it's a beauty, but I kind of miss the ugly stock when on long hunts.

The thing that makes any rifle feel heavy is when it's poorly balanced. The Marauder is not light but it's not a particularly heavy rifle either. It just feels that way because it's "front heavy" - i.e. most of the weight is out front.

If anything, you want to add a little weight to the rear of the stock to balance it properly for off-hand shooting.

Some other alternatives include fitting a shorter barrel, a carbon fiber shroud and replacing the tube with a cf bottle.

As someone already mentioned, turning it into a bullpup would also make it feel a lot lighter.

No, I didn't weigh my stock - didn't realize there was such a variance. I sure like what you are doing to your stock.

Looks like you hammered those two bunnies - good shooting.

I wasn't meaning so much the variance, but that they really aren't much heavier then aftermarket wood stocks.

Here is mine with the action in it.

It "feels" like much more then 1lb lighter.....at pretty much ZERO cost (I had the stain and Tru-Oil from another project) Mine is 1lb, 9oz where it's looks as though the Maddog is 1lb, 14oz.

Your stock is amazing - beautiful. Are you woodworker or carpenter, by chance?

Nope - none of the above. Just you're average Joe, tryin to make something better for no $$. It's really not hard, or complicated. A few hand tools and takin your time.
I think that when I get my new stocks from maddog, I'm gonna take the OEM stock and whittle on it for a while. I going to try to do what you did and am even going to cut a triangle out of the butt, to kinda skelotonize it. It'll be my first attempt at something like this.

When I got the gun I picked up a stock in a trade to work on in case I messed it up.

I was going to "skeletonize", but then kept hearing the comments about the gun being "front heavy" and didn't want to contribute to that any by taking weight off the rear.

Me too, I've heard the "front-heavy" stories, also. But that wouldn't matter to me, I shoot from a wheelchair, 95% of the time supported on a tripod. I'd just like a lighter air rifle in general.
