Red Squirrel Hunt and Starling Sniping

Well I had a great weekend shooting. Also I posted the visit I had while target shooting. (A nice black bear on my range)Made my day. I mostly did targets trying to re sight my Condor SS in .25 with the new adjustable top hat. But one morning me and my friend Dan met up and went to some state land and set out looking for red squirrels. This place used to be loaded with them. They would run down the trees and bark at you. Now there doesn't seem to be as many and I noticed a lot of 20 gauge shells lying around. We walked a sort of trail watching and listening. They make a weird call and run trees like they smoke crack and drink red bull. We saw one running and Dan took a shot at about 30 yards with his R9 in .177 and spined him. We recovered him and sat by a tree with lots of pine cone droppings and waited. While there a young doe walked to us and and didn't notice us at all. We were camoed up and wearing pull over face netting. Thank God because the mosquitos were horrendous and thats when the doe noticed the swatting movement at 20 yards. Awesome. Then about ten minutes later I caught movement and the red was coming straight at me. I took a offhand shot but missed. No excuses but this condor is not meant for close up hunting. I had to remember to adjust to 4 power, set parallax and hold over 4 mil dots on the run. I shot right under him hitting the fallen log blowing him straight up. Dan said I got him. But then he ran to another tree and I got him through the back out his butt area. He crawled a few yards and i finished with a header. That was it except for the fox that walked by Dan. But later that day at home I was picking off starlings. A few were hit hard with the Barracuda hunters HP but managed a dive bomb into a hay field and disappeared. Probably got 7 or 8. This is the only pic of the starlings. Amazing those birds can take a hit before they crash. But most of them DRT. Oh that is a black bear that visited me on my range after shooting.
