RDW drawing lots of new users

Any one else notice that RDW is causing all kinds of new users to sign up and most of them NEVER post anything useful to the forum (they don't even post in the discuss thread for the item them want to win)?

Many are here ONLY to make a guess then disappear till the next RDW. :(

I also see some vendors / makers of airgun goods posting guesses as well. Shame on you. If you are associated with the airgun industry (i.e. making money from it) then you should not guess for free stuff was my understanding.

When the RDW first started it was my understanding that to qualify you needed to fulfill three parts of the deal, you had to be subscribed to the channel guess the number and discuss the gun on the other post.
You also was not supposed too be changing your guess or editing your post later.
As to the rest as long as you don't work for the sponsors then your good

Why isn't there a post count for each user like nearly ALL other forums?

As far as users RDW is attracting it is somewhat equivalent in my mind to opening borders of our country with no vetting. :(

I can't participate but something should be done to encourage these hoards of new users to try to post some useful content like most of us do from time to time.

Just my .02

"T3PRanch"Why isn't there a post count for each user like nearly ALL other forums?

You have posted 958 times! I've probably read everyone of them. I counted...........Actually It is listed in the profile section.
It would be nice to get more activity from users. Sure the majority of them are fly-byes, but.......Maybe hosting the giveaways advertised elsewhere will bring more interest to the forum. That is probably the main goal and good thing. This forum provides the majority of the knowledge I receive. I don't know anyone locally that is into the hobby.

Dirte- I agree. If we can maintain a high quality forum and not act like some people on some other forums, we will gain some high quality new members to this forum. That is a what we would like, isn't it? If the RDW's draw in some flakes, that's just the way the the world works these days. Flakes will disappear in time and the new members will help everyone grow and learn. A closed or limited forum would become just that- Limited

"T3PRanch"@Dirte I guess I have trouble seeing sometimes. I have been to my profile page numerous times and NEVER noticed the post count.....duh! lol
Likewise I consider you a quality poster and have probably read all you have posted as well.

Edit: actually I have posted more than that but we best leave that stone un-turned.

Ahh! AKA T3PRanch I get ya.

This kind of thing is advertising 101. The contest gives the forum more page views, which turns into exposure for both the advertiser and the forum community. Even if only 10% of these contest people stick around that's better than getting no new members.

I don't like the idea of forcing members to participate against their will. A lot of people don't have anything to add to a conversation or are just doing research. I was really turned off by GTA forcing me to post an introduction thread before I could use the forum.

I much prefer the openness of AGN. I lurked for a while at first but eventually started posting.

I have found that forums bring out 3 things: Great Information and education on the various topics, douche bags with attitudes and opinions, and hurt feelings. Forums in general are hard to regulate for a multitude of reasons. Along those lines I personally don't post much, but read a lot. I've participated in the rdws but who wouldn't want to win a free gun?

If you start regulating who can enter in a giveaway than you will alienate potential newcomers to the forum and to the sport. Personally I don't like that idea because there aren't many air gun enthusiasts in my neck of the woods. Food for thought.

I'm new to PCP and air rifles in general sure I had my Daisy back in the day and my Gamo but I was just a plinker my true hobby is more on the lines of as you call it powder burners and Archery.
I found this forum a while back when my interest took a turn due to my health and I wanted to keep shooting, I know absolutely nothing about PCP rifles or pistols,I have no clue how to tune or anything so for me to add anything of value to a post or conversion is mute right now but I'm learning by reading what you more knowledgeable folks do to your rifles and what not to do and I'm still in a haze,I was a lurker before I joined I had no idea there was a gun giveaway until the other week when I took time to look at more post,it just never caught my eye because I was/am looking for info on PCP's not free stuff.
Im sure I could have a heck of a post count if I knew as much about air rifles as I do about powder burners and Archery but I don't and I wount pretend I do because that, well, just makes a person look stupid, I have yet to walk out of a kitchen due to the heat on things I know about but air rifles I'm at a loss.
So I did take a guess this month and lost Oh Well maybe next one.
I should add that I did jump into this Hobby with both feet, 2 rifles,1 big bore 357,1 pistol, 2 hand pumps,2 air tanks and a compressor for right now and more to come as time goes on,I plan on shooting for a long time.

People that only stop by to try to get something for nothing to me are just like the people that go to grocery stores on Saturday for the free food dealers put out for tasting to get you to buy their product but they never do,they just want something for nothing.
Im Done with my little rant.

"Bstalder85"You call that a rant? Ha ha ha

Im jealous of your air arsenal imold, also is it I-mold? Or I'm-old? Ha ha ha
Maybe Dirt would of worked for me hahaha, I bought a Trail NP and liked it so much I ended up investing in the Benjamin Marauders .22 rifle, .22 pistol, .25 rifle, .357 Bullpup and later I would like to add a top line airgun like a .25 Impact or on that line, think the .25 is going to be my perferd caliber.
Maybe I will win one someday....

I've read all your concerns & angles guys and I appreciate the insight.

RDW was born when Michael & I put our heads together to come up with a win-win for both industry and consumer. We set out to create a commodity that could be looked forward to monthly in which we could give back to our supporters, spread the word of our sponsors, and grow our following. By combining the 3 things airgunners like most... Internet Forums, YouTube and free stuff, we set out marketing our idea.

The industry support was pretty much instantaneous and as the model grows, so does interest from vendors that haven't yet publically announced their participation, as well as from those that have already been backing us. While no good intentioned initiative will ever be perfect for everyone, please know that this one's grown legs and there are very good things ahead for us all.
