RAW sprung a leak

"jps2486"
"Deja"heh som much for that impeccable raw quality. well bad luck is bad luck. that said, of my 3 pcps my cheapest one has been the most flawless. had problems with my vulcan and my streamline but the gamo has been perfect. o_O
If you have a PCP air rifle using O rings to seal the air (I believe all of them do), then eventually one or more will leak.
That kind of technical stuff holds a lot of allure for me with airguns. I always learn from it and increase my skill set. I look at it as an opportunity; there are no problems, only solutions.

Marcella69,

I believe this is my first post here on AGN, and judging by what I have to say it may be my last.... I ran across your posts a few weeks ago while reading up about the RAW that I purchased a few months back; mind you, I have not had a single problem with the gun, but I like to read up on the little nuances that other owners have come across so I can be prepared for any future bumps in the road. Having said that, I have followed your threads one after the other (due to search results) and have seen that they all have one thing in common.... your complete ignorance of all things air gun related, and a level of indecisiveness and immaturity that is utterly ignorant and only serves to discredit anything you take the time to type. However, I have one request; please continue to post openly and honestly about your RAW air gun, because any individual that takes your idiocy for gospel does not deserve to own such an engineering masterpiece and would only muddy the waters for Martin and his RAW family.

I haven't been around here long either but I've definitely noticed this trend too, as soon as I saw this thread I knew it would be drama. It starts with the title of the thread, definitely an attention grabber. I'm sure everyone here takes it with a grain of salt. Then you find out it's basically an o-ring that's been taken apart and re-installed a couple times by the OP. Granted the trigger was set probably too light from the factory and Marco needed to remove the bottle to adjust it. But I agree it shows immaturity to run into a small snag like having to adjust a trigger that yes involves a little work (required a thread in its own) or this thread. Could have easily send someone you know a message and ask those questions
A: is the valve supposed to jiggle when the bottle is empty and removed?

Yes, the air pressure holds it in. Put the new (supplied) o-ring in and try that.
Fixed.

But no...
Start a thread to imply that RAW sent you an inferior product or something. Say things like "emails from now on, everything in writing", "ridiculous lengths you had to go to adjust the trigger" the noise when filling etc. You're taking the BAR right? You know how important words are and what implications they make, its all perspective as you know. Just please think before making a thread, think is this maybe a small problem? Could I solve it with a simple private message to someone I know knows these rifles well?

Like the thread about being disappointed basically right away because it was 10 ft/lb short of advertised. After trying a minimal of pellets, without even breaking it in you start a thread pushing an agenda that you're disappointed. One after another.

Enjoy your rifle man, sorry about the tough love but I think you need a little kick in the ass

The squeeching noise during the filling is indeed the filling valve and spring (resonating).

As suggested by Weatherby you can change the valve spring or what some shooters in the Netherlands and Belgium have done is put a small drop of silicon based or nano based oil in the opening of the fill valve, then connect your filling hose and fill the gun. This way all the o-rings in the high pressure part and the regulator stay slightly lubricated and the pinging noise will go away. As soon as the noise starts coming back you repeat the process.

It might be possible that you'll need to clean te barrel after using the oil but you'll have to check that for yourself.

The RAW owners manual expressly recommends against the use of silicone- or synthetic-based lubricants.

Do they state where not to use silicon-based lubricants? I can imagine that you shouldn't use it to lubricate the hammer since silicon isn't made for metal to metal lubrication. One drop in the fill port won't do you any harm if you make sure it's 100% silicon oil and not a combustible mixture.

It's also possible that the shooters I know are just ignorant :p At least it works for them

Well, my RAW owners manual speaks only to lubricants to be used on the trigger mechanism specifically and other moving parts in general, so silicone-based lubricants may very well be used on o-rings. I believe it's more of a matter of legal liability than actual operating efficacy.

Well, even high quality airguns are prone to have minor issues like a defective o´ring. Two years ago when I receive my brand new Fx Royale 400 in .22, it blew up the charging port o´ring the very first day I took it to the shooting range. Well it was frustrating since it was a $1,400 dlls. airgun (at that time) but this kind of things happens, I just put my things back on my car trunk, go back home, change the o´ring and returned to the shooting range the very next weekend and enjoyed shooting my Royale. As for the squeaking noise when you fill your bottle, I really don´t think it is a defect, it is just a characteristic in many airguns, even high quality ones, that I personally don´t find annoying, I like to think it is my airgun saying: "hurry up man... let´s go shoot some pellts" heheheheh.
Enjoy your rifle marcella.

José, thank you for your respectful and reasoned response; it is greatly appreciated. Since I replaced the o-ring, I have shot nearly two tins of pellets through her over the course of three days with no issues. As far as the squealing noise, at least I know she's filling; am I right folks?!

"Ranger08"FYI. I have a RAW. The high pitched noise you hear during filling, while mildly annoying, is perfectly normal. I asked Martin about this specifically.

I have found that if I make sure the fitting latches on securely and rotate it a bit before filling I can usually avoid the noise. Otherwise, I just don't worry about it.
I used to do that as a matter of course. I will resume that practice. Thanks :)
