Rats! Need some examples of how to bait them

My wife has informed me that rats have taken to perusing our compost bin. That means it's game on for me with an airgun. I have a plan, but I wanted to see if anyone else has done this before. No need to re-invent the wheel. My plan calls for some clever use of some automated sensors, some plywood and ibey26's silent backstop. My plan is to build a type of stand that will have some bait and put the rats on a pedestal in front of a silent backstop that triggers the light and the ding-donger. I'll set it up, bait it with some nuts(or something more effective if you have any ideas) and pop the rats as time permits and they present themselves.

when i did an eradication of rats on a farm i bought a couple years ago i used a 22lr.
anyhow , the bait i found to realy get them going was a mix of some bread , olive oil , shrimps and nutella ... all in the mix and adding oil for right consistency to get it liquid enough for the rats to need to stay and eat and not run away with bait :)

got about 700 rats within a month :p

"ztirffritz"What is 'NV'?
'NV' is what you feel when someone purchases that FX you want. Haha.
Is there any legal issue for two metal plates wired with 110 set up so they sit on one and place the fore paws on the other to reach the bait, then just flipping a switch when the alarm alerts you? Takes the pellet out of play, but I wonder if it would work.
I have tethered a bait bag ( mesh with the gooey mix) to keep them busy.

It's a monthly ritual for us, during the full moon I collect griddle grease from a few of the delicatessens. This with stale rolls, and anything that did not sell. The bacon, and sausage grease is the key. To sweeten the buffet some fish carcases are strung up in onion bags and suspended at a height where they jump and hang on the bag. Depending on the amount shooters sometimes Wicked lights are used,

oh heck yeah i was lol , but i had to get them gone ! some of the real big once had killed multiple goat babys and once i had to shoot one of the neck of my hunting buddy (a huge white Main coon cat ) it used to hunt from a ledge and jump down on rats and mice when they came out from the cracked stone foundation , then it came face to face with a rat half its size ..
where used to the size of the rats you might find in a zoo shop , tho the biggest one i shot was about same size as a normal house cat!!

had about 80 rats one the most speedy day :p
