Quick couplers. Help me understand the differences

Purchased a Yong Heng compressor to use with my Benjamin Bulldog and I quickly found that the quick coupler would not fit the male fitting on the gun. So after looking around for a coupler to fit my gun I purchased a Foster brand fitting from Air Venturi that fit's the bulldog. Bizill pointed out the difference in thread types. The line from the compressor has 10x1 mm threads and the coupler I purchased has 1/8 bspp threads. So I will need to make an adapter for the two pieces to come together. 
Can someone out there tell me what the difference is between fittings as to why one coupler works for some fittings and others dont. I see lots of people using the original coupler that comes with the compressor. How many type fittings are there and what is the standard for PCPs.

Threads: 1/8 " National Pipe Thread. (US) British Standard Pipe. (UK) British standard Parallel Pipe. (UK, HongKong, Taiwan) NPT pipe thread cut at 60 degrees and tapered. 
BSP threads cut at 55 degrees and tapered. BSPP threads are parallel threads and seal with an o ring or similar device. NPT threads and BSP threads can be used together with teflon or similar thread sealant. BSPP threads cannot be interchanged with any other thread style, those are the fittings that only engage the tapered thread for less than 1 revolution before jamming. Paintball supply,Zoro.com, McMaster-Carr for metric to inch adapters. At McM search for1/8" high pressure brass fittings.

"tricker"For quick couplers PCPs mostly use 1/8" open flow style couplers. Hose Express BL12FSS. Hose Warehouse has bulk packs. Search for Parker St series or FST series. Just got some M/F couplers from Trinity Paintball for $7 each, SS, 4500 psi.

Thanks for the info on the thread sizes but I became aware of that very quickly looking at fittings. What I was asking are there different type 1/8 fitting types(shapes) that have a spec number or style. And thanks for the info on sites for fittings.
