Question about my air rifle velocity

I recently bought the Gamo TAC Whisper and after installing the Hammer 3-9x40 scope, I decided to sight it in and check the velocity with my chrony. The rifle is stamped with a 1250 fps with a PBA pellet which from what I can tell is about 5.4 grains. When I bought the rifle I picked up some Crossman Ultra Magnum round nose 10.5 gr pellets which actually weigh closer to 10.05 grains.

My first shot was 718 fps - and I realize I'm using almost twice as heavy a pellet. But the next consecutive shots were 684, 667, and finally 660. I understand some variance but I'm concerned about the continual drop in velocity - albeit only 4 shots. I could never find anything as far as lubrication or cleaning, but more along the line as just leave it alone.

Is the drop in velocity just a fluke or a pattern? Thanks.

+1 with Broek ! The velocity printed on boxes are WAY over estimated !!! ( Down right lies )? Lol
Speed sells , so they fudge with the numbers to grab your attention. Don't worry about initial velocity drops. Some of it is probably just lube spreading around ...It should settle in at about 100 shots or so . PS the super light pellets also almost NEVER SHOOT very accurately. Enjoy the rifle , and don't sweat the Chrono numbers.

Thanks Joe. If that's a picture of you in your avatar, and we happen to be in the same bar some time when a fight breaks out - I want to be on your side!

"JoeWayneRhea"Be on my right side ! On my left side I'll never see you. Lol. And yes that's me . Don't let the patch fool ya , it don't make me any tougher than a guy with a hearing aid
ROFL, Joe!

For the OP:
Another thing not yet mentioned, you seem to have just bought the gun. New springers frequently diesel. When they do you get velocities that do that. Shoot a tin of pellets through it before you bother worrying too much about velocity readings.
