Problem with Benjamin Marauder .22

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a used Benjamin Marauder .22 with a hammer debouncing device already installed. The gun ran fine for about 250 shots or so. The other day I shot it and all of the sudden (after I refilled it to 2900psi) the gun stopped releasing air. What I mean by this, is that when the trigger is pulled you can hear and feel the hammer drop, but no air is released and the pellets just sit in the barrel. I am completely baffled as to why this is happening. I took the trigger assembly apart but everything looked fine. This confirms my suspicion that the problem is up somewhere near the hammer and the air valve.

Does anyone know what could be causing this or provided detailed information/pictures/parts on how to fix it? I truly would be appreciative of your help, as I am new to the sport and certainly want to be safe and do things right.

Thank you,

James

There are several things which could be the cause of your problem-

1 HDD or SSG device not allowing the hammer to strike the valve as it should
which got out of adjustment or damaged or broken or worn

2 IF it has a modified hammer the threaded piece striker broken or screwed
back in

3 If it has a B Staley Oring mod the Orings are scrunched up and not seated properly

4 Broken valve stem or valve spring

5 I don't think it is valve lock due to over pressurization since you mentioned you
had already shot 250 rounds assuming you refilled to 2900psi several times.

6 If it has a regulator it could be possibility an issue

7 Debris blocking your transfer port

8 Pellet stuck in barrel

Ask the seller what mods were done to it and post it so we can get a better
idea what could be the root cause of your issue. How long has it been since
you purchased the gun from the seller?

I guess in order to help you better I need to ask some questions. Did you use the pressure gauge on the gun or on the pump or tank to determine the 2900 psi? It's possible that one of the gauges may be bad and not giving you the proper reading. If you purchase this gun used you never know with the previous owner did to it. If you have a degassing tool for the Benjamin marauder I would suggest degassing your cylinder. That's where I would start at least.

I have already cleared the barrel. There were obviously several pellets jammed inside due to reloading and not realizing that the gun was not releasing air.

I purchased the gun a while ago and don't have contact with the seller anymore. He did install a hammer debouncing device. I did get one (just one) release of air with a trigger pull among about 50 attempts. Not sure why that happened, and it was a lower release of air, not a normal burst. As for the pressure, the gauge matches the PSI on my 72cu ft scba tank from Joe B., so I don't think that's an issue. I'll have to purchase a degassing tool and do that. Any other suggestions would be great.

Thanks so much.

Turn the hammer spring 2 turns counter clockwise, fire the gun few times then turn hammer spring 3 turns clockwise then fire gun few times and see if that does anything. A chrony would be very helpful.

Back the TP screw (under the threaded cover screw) counter clockwise 2 turns, fire few times, then see if that helps then clockwise 1 to 1 and a half turns back in.

Suggest going this route since you don't have a degassing tool on hand and I won't elaborate on another method to degas it since you are new to a Marauder.

I also suspect possibly if it has the B Staley Oring mod, they may have become unseated, crushed inside.

Determining which HDD you have. Is the gun hard to cock and gritty metal to metal?
Then its the one AofA and SteveNC sells that Ted had a video on. Its metal to metal.
I would not recommend this one as it could damage the insides of your gun every time
you cock and shoot it. It makes it very hard to cock and inside scraping your metal
to metal moving parts.

If its easy to cock its probably the B Staley Oring mod

If its hard to cock but not gritty metal to metal then its the twin spring WAR type SSG
