Photobucket is money hungry!

Well Photobucket has sent emails stating that we are using third party hosting and they are cutting our service. They want you to upgrade to a payment plan.

In the meantime any of your photos you posted on this and other forums are gone!

Michael, your photo hosting came at the perfect time!

I can tell you that I will be downloading any photos from Photobucket if I don't have on my computer and sending them a kiss my ass email. They flood your library with a ton of ads that slow you down terribly, and now they want you to pay.

Well after other people like me dump them for hosting, I bet they will suffer with advertiser pulling out. At least I hope so. They think they have you by the cahonies, by waiting until you have a bunch of photos on your forums and the like. They figure you will just pay up.....! WRONG with this boy. I have Snapagogo too who does not charge....

Well my photos are also on my computer and memory stick. It just pisses me off to no end, with them just doing this without warning! I deleted all my photos a few minutes ago and then deleted the acct. But not before explaining why in no uncertain terms... Bunch of crap if you ask me.They inundate your library with a ton of adds, causing the uploads to slow down, and send emails all the time selling services. Now they want us to pay too.

The best program they offer is $399.00 a year, the lowest is like $39.00, and the next $99.00 if I remember right.

Now Snapagogo will not let me in to my account! It keeps saying my email and password are not valid. When I hit "forgot password" it does not recognize my email.... WT....

I guess it is a plot against me!.....lol

Sometimes a bit of foresight pays off. Now I've just got to figure out how to host videos without it costing an arm & a leg (videos require a LOT more storage space, especially in HD).

Stephen Archer of Hard Air Magazine wrote a short article about it
Airgun Forums Hit By Missing Image Issue Yet Airgun Nation Saw It Coming[/QUOTE]http://hardairmagazine.com/news/air...age-issue-yet-airgun-nation-saw-coming/embed/

You tube does not charge to post a video there.......Yet

I upload videos there then link them to my website for my target business.

That's truth but in my opinion we should use all new media, all social media as a toll for promoting ourselves and our knowledge but always have a backup plan and diversified ways of doing stuff - why? Because either it is YT, Fb, photobucket or any other - we are only guests in someone else garden. Social media services comes and goes, hosting websites changes rules and you always should be prepared for it.
So ... my advice is:
- always have a backup of your texts, videos and photos on your computer, hdds/ssd/flash drives
- if you can store your stuff in several places f.eg. photos on photobucket (not any more) and also on flickr and google drive (both free both easty to use) - someone will ask why? Because they can't close all at once, and they can't change rules at once
- youse yt, fb, g+, whatever to publish your stuff, promote your stuff but always have a place where people can find you even if big brother will shut down every social media in the world. This place should be your own website/blog, on your own server and on your own domain (today website hosting services and domains are dirt cheap - f.eg. for a blog on your own domain it cost something like 3-4 .177 JSB Exact packs as year). Why you shoud do this? Because if not ... f. eg. if you have all your stuff in one place, if your viewers know you from only that one place - if that place will close - you loose everything and your viewers can't find you.
Example 1: Several years ago everyone had to have MySpace account ... people spend there hours ... - it closed now and people had to go
Example 2: People stardet groups and fanpages on Fb - they made a living from sharing knowledge there and made some money. One day Fb said: ify want to make money here - pay us first. And just like that you had to pay because if not - even your followers/likers couldn't see what you are sharing
Example 3: Fb something like a year ago changed rules and said: everything what even resambles a weapon (ASG, airguns, black poder, firearms etc) is a weapon and you are not allowed to sell any of them on our groups (you can sell them on your fanpages but there you have to pay us to give youaccess to your own followers :/ ) - that way in one day some of biggest local and worldwide fb groups were closed/blocked/removed because they contained some kind of exchange/selling of airguns or ASG between userso of those groups
Example 4: And it shoke also our shooters comminity. Not a long ago Google/youtube changed rules and cutted out almost 100% earnings from videos containing anything gun related - that way lots of our airgun lovers that shares its knowledge on YT - just like that were deprived of any earnings. And as we know makikng movies in good quality cost money and time, having to buy new airguns for testing and reviewing also cost money.

So ... what I'm trying to say in that long polglish (I'm from Poland so polish-english ;) ) screed - always diversifie and remember: there is nothing free in that world.

A post with meaning strikefast, and a very good summary SFX!
Getting into these free photo storages have a catch to it. Not there and then, but those small steps leading to a point when you have to show the cash money.
sadly you don't get a warning in advance, but history tells that this is the way it is, a sort of catch and release situation, and totally in the hands of the fishermen.

so: posting images is solved, AGN took care of that. But videos? If it's no way around paying, wouldn't it be all right if AGN had the possibility to do that on behalf of the members? I mean posting videos like pictures today? And if so, would it be a one time cost, or paying along?
Myself I wouldn't hesitate a minute if there was a cost to the membership, which gave me free access to the videos put out here.
AGN would be master of the house, based on a none profit filosofy of course.

I am glad with the response to my post. SFX has summed up the problem well. I know there are many hosting sites out there. And Gunnertrones reiterates my original post of our pics on our posts are no longer visible. This is really what got me going in the first place.

I am familiar with Flicker, and Snapagogo.

Imugar not so much...... I would like to see folks post here at to who they use for their hosting and why.

As I said in the post start You Tube is my go to for the videos. I don't believe Michael would need to provide storage or not much with a link to You Tube..!?

I have a website for my target making business, and I need to see if I can third party host my own photos from there.

Thee problem is solved here thanks to Michael's foresight. However, on other forums where you would want to comment or sell something, you need the outside hosting.
I still think that Photobucket pulled an intentional ruse on the public! True, they are a business and can alter there service if they want. But we can alter our loyalty and move elsewhere. I still hope they lose advertisers for this move. Too bad they could not have at least sent a warning that they where going to do this beforehand. That would have been the professional thing to do. I would not have felt do slighted if they did that.

This is where I believe they set us up intentionally.

I just got done deleting my account. I never had my photos just on photobucket so no issues with losing pics. The site has become so bad to navigate with all the pop up ads that hit you every couple seconds. The only part about it that bothers me are all my photos in multiple forums of my hunting/pesting pics I posted using photo bucket along with some pics of mods I did to help other members out are now all gone from those sites. Oh well I am sure I could repost them if I wanted to go back thru all those posts lol.

Since Photobucket deceided to kick me off I have tried imgur, Flickr and google photos and can't seem to make any of them work. I am using an iPad and with Photobucket all I had to do was copy and paste the link. With the three I have tried when I copy and past the link all I get is a little blank square. When you tap on it it says "loading" but nothing ever happens. I found some instructions on using a windows computer and right clicking the mouse and resizing but won't work on an iPad. Anyone got any ideas on something that will work with the iPad. Sure glad Airgun Nation will let you upload a direct photo. Maybe some of the other forums can follow their lead now that Photobucket has gotten money hungry. $400 a year just to be able to post to a 3rd party sight is out of reason.
