Packing my bags for Puerto Rico to shoot iguanas

Buenos dias guys, If you're with Andy you're in good hands.
A group of us locals from the San Juan/Bayamon area are heading to Santa Isabel this week to do some invasive species extermination at a farm. We'll post some pics later on how this goes.
BTW, you do not need a permit to hunt iguanas on private property. If you do so on state/public land then you do need the Natural Resources Dept. permit

Hi , I don't know if Puerto Rico wants to give hunting licences. I sent a postal order from the uk for 19 pounds. That's in English pounds and when they got it , they said we don't accept money in euros. Anyway if I did get a permit where can you shoot iguanas on public land. Also I got an email back from the start saying if they can't see in the bottle they won't allow it in the plane on checked luggage. I will see if I can hire a bottle in p.r or I will post it empty of air. Anyone had dealings with the tsa on bringing a bottle through check in.

Not to worry, If you do need it, I'll lend you a 500cc (aluminum) bottle I took off my FX Boss when I replaced it with a CF bottle. Just let me know when you're coming down and we'll meet someplace. Heck, If we can swing it, you can join us for a hunt but, Andy knows much more productive areas, drop him a line.
Saludos,
Pedro in PR

As far as I know, you do need a permit to hunt iguanas in PR, no matter where. Please check the following link (Law 241, article 2, incise e).

Here is a copy of my personal permit, where it is clearly stated where hunting is permitted (fincas privadas and reservas naturales). Hunting is not permitted in State Forests.

Bottle shipment is best way to be at ease. I have had Puerto Rico State Police inspect my gun for three trips at arrival and departure called in by airline personnell. For this last trip one gun arrived on belt with suitcases and other held in baggage but handed over to me just saying it's a pellet gun. So the law is tuff to figure but I have always moved through. Remember you are a target shooter not hunter.

I believe this was taken on our last day because I left my wind indicator at the house. This is how I hunt. I use the safari sling on my FX 500 and you can see my range card hanging on my pocket. I keep lose pellets in my right jacket pocket with my full mags and I put my empty mags in my left pocket. As I walk along I can load any empty mags while my gun rests nicely on my chest. When I need to shoot, the gun comes to the shooting position quickly. Of course I’ll need to throw down these iguanas before I shoot. The one in my right hand is a red head.

"Jondon51"Hi , my name is John and I have booked a flight out to Puerto Rico on the 7 th of May. I am from the uk and have found out a lot since I booked my flight. Because I have two airlines on my ticket, that's Thomas cook flying out with condor airlines flying from Manchester to New York , and then jet blue which is Spanish flying from New York to San Juan. The problem with this is that you have to pay at the airport which comes to about 130 dollars on the outward journey for a return ticket. With the jet blue airline it's cheaper and they only charge about 25 dollars each way. Another problem is the size of the gun bag . It's got to be 158 cm in size . That's the length plus the width plus the thickness of the bag.so I got a gun bag which is 147cm in size. I know it's hard work listening to this but that's not all. Then you need a shooting licence which is 25 dollars .so I sent a postal order for 19 uk pounds and after waiting a month they said they don't take euros. I mean we don't have euros in the uk. I am waiting for a reply as I said in an email that 19 pounds in the uk is about 26 dollars. I don't know if you need a licence on private land anyway I will wait for a reply and see what happens. Then after you get the licence it says you have to contact someone for the use of a neaumatic arm whatever that means, presumably an airgun. Trying to talk to someone in another language is pretty hard. Anyway when I get back I will let everyone know what it was like. I am going with my fx impact in .25 calibre , which is f.a.c. Thanks for any advice, and I am going on the 7th of May if anyone cares to meet me for a shoot etc.

Hi John,

Please tell us how was your trip to PR. Plenty of iguanas...?
