Packing my bags for Puerto Rico to shoot iguanas

Streetwise: Jim W will probably remember me. I haven’t hunted with him in PR but I have hunted with him at diaries in the Phoenix area. My good friend Scott D and I also ran into him at EBR in October. One meets many interesting people at EBR so plan to be there and meet the good folk at AOA next year. As for knowing the island well, one can’t beat Andy. He as lived here for 30 years, is a PHD at the university here and speaks the language like a native. Did I mention that he is a great host and an excellent shot. All he did yesterday was put us on as many iguanas as we could shoot and did not take his on FX Boss. He insisted on glassing for us. As we were leaving our hunting area there was a big iguana in a tree that we couldn’t resist. We asked Andy to grab the first gun and pop it. The Bobcat was first in line. I ranged it at 44 yards then the iguana crawled to the back side of the limb with just its right eye showing. Monkeyshine told him where to hold since it was his gun and he had to make the perfect shot by barely grazing the tree and hitting the eye. You heard that thud as the .25 cal MKII pellet found its mark. The iguana fell DRT.

"Longbrownbox"Looking at the bottle he said what’s this? I told him that holds the air. He then said I will need to look in that bottle. That ended the conversation with TSA cause I’m not about to take that valve off so I decided to ship it through the post office

Do you think TSA would have been more lenient if it did NOT have the bottle? I plan to bring a FX Wildcat with me some day on a trip. I would of course empty all the air from it before checking it in.

I think that unless they are free to look into every internal space on the gun they will bust your chops. If you wear a ghutra they may leave you alone due to political correctness.

Vince & Brian: B you are correct. TSA told me as much. If they can’t see in then there is a potential. However, the Bobcat has a long tube instead of a bottle. You can loosen the grub screw, loosen the tube enough to bleed gun and retighten grub. The gun will show empty and most won’t recognize it having a tank. Is this a chance you are willing to take? It’s been working for him! By the way, it looks like my bottle is on the gun but it isn’t. No bottle!

22: the 3 of us actually shot 130 on the first day and 134 on the 2nd. We are going to try something different this morning and try to beat our previous best. It will require a cunning effort on our part which is to get up earlier. We are leaving at least an hour earlier but hey, this is island time.

I’m learning much from these guys. Even if you shoot a lot an consider yourself a good shooter, there is room to learn. I’ve been using Chair Gun for years but these guys helped me to take it to a whole new level. Also “Frogman” has helped me with posting videos. Now I need to master editing.

Maybe run this scenario past a TSA supervisor. What if you left Air in the gun and then empty it in their presence that way they would know there was just Air in it. If they suspected that you may had a flammable liquid or explosive gas in it they would see nothing but Air come out.

Hi , my name is John and I have booked a flight out to Puerto Rico on the 7 th of May. I am from the uk and have found out a lot since I booked my flight. Because I have two airlines on my ticket, that's Thomas cook flying out with condor airlines flying from Manchester to New York , and then jet blue which is Spanish flying from New York to San Juan. The problem with this is that you have to pay at the airport which comes to about 130 dollars on the outward journey for a return ticket. With the jet blue airline it's cheaper and they only charge about 25 dollars each way. Another problem is the size of the gun bag . It's got to be 158 cm in size . That's the length plus the width plus the thickness of the bag.so I got a gun bag which is 147cm in size. I know it's hard work listening to this but that's not all. Then you need a shooting licence which is 25 dollars .so I sent a postal order for 19 uk pounds and after waiting a month they said they don't take euros. I mean we don't have euros in the uk. I am waiting for a reply as I said in an email that 19 pounds in the uk is about 26 dollars. I don't know if you need a licence on private land anyway I will wait for a reply and see what happens. Then after you get the licence it says you have to contact someone for the use of a neaumatic arm whatever that means, presumably an airgun. Trying to talk to someone in another language is pretty hard. Anyway when I get back I will let everyone know what it was like. I am going with my fx impact in .25 calibre , which is f.a.c. Thanks for any advice, and I am going on the 7th of May if anyone cares to meet me for a shoot etc.

J51: I see that PR sent you a pm. He will put you on the right track. A few side notes. Take some sunscreen. While most of the time it is pleasant, the sun will burn your face and neck if you aren’t careful. Where we hunted one did not need bug spray but a small container would serve as a backup. Be extra careful if you drive. Many of the stoplights aren’t working and you aren’t use to driving like they do. It would also be helpful to have a pair of binoculars. Iguanas can hide in the foliage and you won’t see them. Most of all, have fun.
