One for the freezer

Had a beautiful MI 10 point in my sights today (literally) but it wasn't meant to be. Will have to settle for this chunky doe. They make better jerky anyway! 41 days and counting til the regular season and the Texan .45 will be ready!

Nice, my Texan .45 is on the FedEx truck and I sitting here waiting for it but anyway, I just got 3 of my crossbows sighted in and picked up my license yesterday, I’ll be in my stand Saturday evening with my Stealth SS. The Three Crossbows i use are my Tenpoint Stealth SS, Matrix 380 and a Bear Bruzer FFL. I like using all three styles of crossbow just like when I was a avid bow hunter, compound,stick,recurve...been a avid bow hunter for 36 years. Waiting their turn..Kinda like my airguns...25, .357, .45,

@imold Boy you are serious about your crossbows! Pretty much the same story here, almost word for word, except I only own 1 CB like most normal folk, haha. My first CB was a ten point many years ago. The difference in today's bows is stunning. Not to mention the broadheads. I could have blood trailed it jogging there was so much spillage. Between now and January, I hope to take 4 more..including the big boy that narrowly escaped today. Good luck this season and enjoy that .45 Texan!

Good shot Brian. Reminded me of my old bow hunting days. It’s black powder season in upstate SC now,and have enjoyed it immensely. I‘ll break out the Texan starting Oct. 11th and our season runs through Jan.1st one of the longest in the nation. This year i’ll Be shooting the Nielsen 290g bullet in the Texan and the Areo-magnum in the Bulldog.

What bullet are you guys deer hunting with in your big bores?

Yes Brian I like my archery, long story short...Back in 81 I shot a deer at about 120 yards with my 30-06 and that’s when I realized that there was no challenge to shooting a deer with a rifle and in 82 I started hunting with a Bear bow and I’ve been a bow hunter since although I used to also hunt with a .50 cal Black Powder during that season but not all the time, This will be my 8th year using my Crossbows due to my health and disabilities, I have 5 total but use to have 7 but I have sold a couple in the last few years. My disability is also why I’ve gotten into the sport/hobby of airguns..won’t even get into my Powder Burners.
Hey Kev, I can’t shoot deer in Mn with Airgun yet but hopefully someday, I’m using mine for yote control and will be using Nicks 220 grain swaged hollow points, I do plan on getting some of Nicks 290s to have around and I to have a BullDog and I’m waiting for my HMx .357, called Sandra the other day and she told me 2-3 weeks I’ll have mine..

@imold , my first bow was a long bow that was 30 years old and that was 30 years ago. Taped an eraser to it and stuck pins in it. I literally had yardage PINS! Haha. First compound was a Bear as well. I believe at this point I've taken deer with everything BUT a deer rifle. Too easy as you said. By far, my favorite is airguns. Been doing that a little longer than I should say publicly, haha. When I shot this doe, I was a little put out by the fact I had to go find it - all of my big bore deer are DRT, like they were struck by lightning. Just hunt with your Texan like you always have and try to be within archery distance for clean head shots.

@Kev I will be hunting the Nielsen 281 grain HP and switching to 295's when those are gone (281 was prototype) Shot the best 150 yard group of my life .851" 3 shots (tethered) with them. Anything from Nick in that design and weight range is just as good, I'm just being superstitious.

Thanks for Texan bullet info guys. I have some 260g Nielsen bullets for Texan but they don’t seem to shoot as well as the 290g bullets. The 290g Nielsen actually shoots 30 fps faster than the 260g bullet and produces 481 fpe out of my Texan. I don’t know if the heavier bullet keeps the valve open longer to produce higher velocities in the heavier bullet or what. My most accurate fill pressure for 290g bullet is 2700 psi, also.
