Oh The Glorious Sounds

I love everything about air gunning. I even enjoy pumping the gun if you can believe that. The other day I was wondering what the pellet would sound like to a lucky varmint who just survived a near miss, so I set my camera up down range looking sideways across the firing line to record the sounds of pellet flight from left to right and sent a handful of rounds across to various targets ranging from 65 yds where the camera was positioned out to 134 yds.

Best to enjoy this 13 seconds wearing headphones. ;)

Very few air gunners wear ear protection (much less amplified ones), for obvious reasons. But if they did, they would hear a similar sound as a powder varminter hears when a 22-250 strikes home. It is muffled to be sure, but the actual sound heard is very similar. If you own a pair of amplified muffs, turn the volume all the way up, and then hit your quarry. You just might be surprised at what you hear.
