NUISANCE FUR-BEARING ANIMALS ----Texas Regs FYI

http://tpwd.texas.gov/publications/huntwild/hunt/fur_bearing/nuisance/

So I found this today and thought I would share it, I have personally spoken with Two of our local wardens and they said the only caveat is that if you plan on keeping the fur you will need to have a trapping license and hunting license.

Direct website quote (Fish and Game )

Landowners or their agents may take nuisance fur-bearing animals in any number by any means at any time on that person's land without the need for a hunting or trapping license. However, fur-bearing animals or their pelts taken for these purposes may not be retained or possessed by anyone at any time except licensed trappers during the lawful open season and possession periods.Nuisance fur-bearing animals may be captured and relocated if the person has received authorization from the department and the owner of the property where the release will occur. A monthly report is required and must be submitted to the department on number and kind of fur-bearers captured, location of release site, name and address of person authorized to release.

They might have told you that the only caveat was that you had to have the licenses but the passage you quoted says you can only keep the pelts during the lawful open season. That means you can't keep pelts taken out of season, even on your own property, and even with a license. Now then, maybe the wardens wouldn't bother you and frankly, I'd think it wouldn't matter but there is a fly in that ointment.

Just be careful, brother.

The Website link is above and the words above is not my own but direct from the site.
if you shoot and kill a fox or coyote or coon in your yard digging in your trash or trying to get into your chicken house then you are perfectly legal to do so without a license. If you hunting to hunt then yes you need a license and in support of our fish and game get one every year anyway.

Thanks

All true. And good advice on getting a license to support our fish/game.

I'm pretty sure these are some of the nuisances that are spoken of:
