Not sure what to buy.

"Phydough"I will have to check it out. I think the discovery is still cheaper than that. Will keep doing research. Cheapest I have found a .22 discovery for is 219 shipped.
I think that Urban is a much better gun. The barrel has been confirmed to be a hammer forged BSA barrel made in the Birminham England factory. In terms of cost maybe more expensive, in terms of value? Maybe not. The Disco might be a little loud too, not sure how effective the Urban moderator is, but Steve says it's pretty quiet.

 GET TO a Match!
My normal advice that I tend to skip now as most say " too far". GET TO ONE! Well worth a few hour drive.
I know some of the NC Field Target shooters ( FT is the most fun you can legally have, and you only thought 3D archery was fun, FT rules), you will learn more in one day than reading for a year. I have fired pretty well every airgun made at FT shoots, all brands, all cal. .
You like to mod and tinker?
A Discovery might well be right up your ally. SO many mods. Marauder trigger ( Gen1 ) fit's right in - with a touch of work- and is match grade, if you don't know - but would if you went to a match- crosman copied a $300.00 match trigger unit right after the patient expired, good unit. Want great groups you may(???) need a barrel but a crosman maximus barrel should fit and is great, also should be under $30.00, nic eh? On and on. Get really crazy and g o for a corthran valve in a discovery and you would have coyote power ( & not too many shots, at all) , or get a regulator for under $100.00 and ....... .

My FT QB78/HPA with reg under $200.00 and could take the nationals with a good shooter ( if I have a discovery it would look about the same)

Phydough, I need to amend my advice to you; I missed the part of your post that stated your budget. There are many fine rifles out there to fit almost any budget; but $500 for a gun, scope, and pump is pretty ambitious!

Although I have evolved into the rarefied air of upper-end air rifles, I started out my adult airgun journey with the Benjamin Marauder .22 pistol that I shot as a carbine ("P-Rod"). I liked the P-Rod because it could easily be filled with a hand pump and had a decent shot count (20 sweet-spot shots per fill). She could also shoot Predator Polymags, which are my favorite hunting round.

Here is a link to Airguns of Arizona's website:

Here's an excellent review:

There are many affordable optics to mount on her, from red dot to scopes. Also, an affordable handpump can be got. Hope this helps :)

Well I ordered a gun last night.

I was deadset on the discovery until I realized I already had plans to spend more on modifying it than the gun cost. At the end of the day I would have a $8-900 Benjamin discovery. I had been talking with Mike at flying dragon and went ahead and pulled the trigger on the xisico sentry 702. I know it isn't on the list of recommendations, but I think this will be a good fun. I will throw a scope that I have on one of my other guns for the time being and enjoy pumping up to 3000 psi by hand.

my father in law thinks he has an extra five bottle that I can have, and if that's the case it will help.

Thank you you for all of the reaponses. I am sure I will be on here a lot with more questions.

From what I had seen it is supposed to be very accurate. I got the .22 version so I won't have as many shots, but hopefully a tank appears at my house sometime in the next week...

i will ill post an update once I receive it and fire it some.

yeah...the mod bug is deeply ingrained in me. I have 15k into mods on my truck and it isn't even close to what I want yet. Everything I have I immediately look for mods. I have learned that I have to look for things that I can't modify too much.

Oh, OK; I was looking at the .177 specs. Still though, you'll get a pretty flat trajectory. My new RAW .357 is a little loopy at only 850 fps, but the impact energy is the same no matter how it gets there! You'll have plenty of power with the .22. Modern weapons deliver WAY more energy than is necessary to drop game. It takes only five ft-lbf to kill a bunny.

Just got confirmation that I have a full size scuba tank being dropped off sometime next week. Now I just have to find a place that can fill it...

going to transfer the UTG bug buster from another rifle onto this gun.

I will I'll do a writ up on the gun with measurements and good pictures as there are some details I just couldn't find about it. Mike let me know that it does indeed use an 11mm dovetail scope mount.

I will I'll also look into making an adapter for single pellet loading. I should have some blocks of aluminum that are large enough for this.

i am excited and think I made the smartest decision for my wallet at this time.
