Nitrogen prices

$50.00 for nitrogen and $7.00 month rent on tank

That sporting goods store should be boycotted before I got my compressor I was paying $7 to $15 for a fill and I live in a rip off part of the country. $40 is biggest rip in country. 

I'm paying $55 a year to rent and $110 per fill (Big 6 liter tank at 6000 psi) Go through one about every 7 months. 

Tracker, those are much better numbers. Where are you getting your Nitrogen from?

Limited no. of air sources in so east Mpls/StPaul. Closest wants $35/fill (3000-4500# 74cu ft tank). May be getting a compressor sooner than expected. 

I had no luck with 6k nitrogen tanks here in Houston. All i got was run around or high prices, 430 big ones for the gas at airgas in texas city, no thanks. Praxair wont even return my phone calls,mom and pop welding shops said they only carry 2200 psi tanks. Bottom line I went with a china Air compressor and now use all the air i want.

Seth, where are you sourcing your nitrogen? We get our gas for the brewery from helget. And I know they are not the only gas operation in Omaha.

And I think you will be quite pleased with it. Got mine yesterday. Topped 3 bottles (75, 100 cu/ft and a 90 cu/in) with a 1500 psi gain each in 45 minutes flat for all three.
I do not like that the air smells like oil vapor so I will be adding more filtration to my system (Diablo Sieve Filter for Water Vapor and a carbon filter stack for removal of odor).

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes I have but I have a sieve filter already for water vapor so I just need to add an activated charcoal filter which I probably can make from an old high pressure hydraulic cylinder or even a standard 4500 psi CF Tank. I worked for many years with high pressure flammable, toxic and pyrophoric as well as inert gasses so I am comfortable with doing the modifications myself. On the GTA Forum one AV user said that the smell is reduced after the seals all get "broken in". We will see but additional filtration cannot hurt.

Kayakairgun - good info. I'm in the Houston area wondering about the same thing. Guess i should save the phone call and look into a compressor.

When I used N2 I paid $8 per month rental and $45 for refill/replace. I got N2 from a welding supply company. The companies like Airgas that supply medical grade N2 were very expensive.

Called our local Praxair distributor (which is about half an hour away). He wanted to make sure I had a CGA-677 regulator and wasn't going to try and stick a lower pressure reg on the bottle. The tank rental around here is $8/mo and the N2 is $60. That's $156, or $13/mo if it lasts the whole year. If it lasts only 6 months, then it's $18/mo. Hopped on the AOA tankfill calculator and punched in 6000 psi, a 430 cu ft cylinder (that's what it comes in, type 4K), and found out it would refill my .22 synrod directly about 430 times - that's almost 26,000 shots in a stock synrod! Of course, one would undoubtedly fill an intermediate 45 minute or 60 minute tank in-between (and lose a bit of N2 in the process) - but this would still give a person alot of refills quite inexpensively (probably only attractive if one happens to have the right regulator for the cylinder).
