New to PCP compressor question

Im new to PCP and I'm looking at buying a Omega compressor or something like that being there is no one within at least 80 miles of me who can fill a tank past 3200 psi, I see that AV makes a booster and Shoebox is a booster so my question is ?????? I have a Craftsman 33gal 1.8 hp oil less compressor and a 6gal power port 0.8hp compressor for finish nailing will either one of these work with a Booster pump or do you need a big 5hp compressor.

Any and all feed back would be appreciated, thanks.

PA has a booster is listed as needing a compressor of 5 cfm. The booster works directly from your shop compressor and will fill a normal PCP Rifle in short time.
I would say that if you have a larger tank to act as a buffer you can cheat the 5 CFM minimum if just being used to fill your gun directly. If you are trying to fill a big tank then you will need to stay above the minimum

Imold, your shop compressor would work with a Shoebox but would be totally inadequate for either an Altaros or an Air Venturi. A Shoebox has its own motor to power its pistons but the other two use air from the first stage compressor to power their pistons as well as provide air to compress. In order to get any kind of decent output and dry air from these two the buyer has to spend money on a large first stage compressor with 5.3 cfm output at 90psi which means a pricey first stage compressor. Then you have to buy a good output filter which adds another $200 or more. Why not just buy an all in one compressor like the Carette and have a plug and play compressor that is made for the job? Booster compressors are slow and not the bargain they appear to be when you add up all the accessory costs.

Don't know your compressors but I do run a altros booster & think you'd be fine.
I am using a $125.00 ( new) Husky 8gal HotDog comp. rated,
135psi max 4.8SCFM @ 40psi and 3.7SCFM @ 90psi
works just fine, more air would be faster but the altros is adjustable so you wont burn up any compressor it could take longer though. So far the Altros does appear to be the best quality low cost booster.

With the info and thinking it over.....I just ordered the AV Compressor. The reason I went this route is now I can take it with me out to my property and not have to worry about hauling a air compressor and a Booster with me, Now I will be able to shoot without needing to dread the Hand pump and it can be my back up now. I can fill up my 90ci tank easier and it gives me a reason to get a 74cf tank.

I guess this will make me fully invested into the world of PCP air rifles now, will save lots of money not shooting my PB's also.

I've recently bought this used Walter Kidde 4.2 CFM @3000 psi ,and I'm really impressed with it .
We did fill a 80 cf aluminum scuba tank from 0 to 3000 psi in 20 minutes, and then,my Joe B. guppy tank, 120 ci from 2100 psi to 4500 psi in 3:30 minutes ! really fast and scary ,because of the mechanics of closing the tank valve and opening the the water separator drain to release the pressure on the hose(I spotted the gauge's niddle coming down from 5000 psi)

"Imold"That's one heck of a intake on that compressor.

Sure is! Me thinks the idea is to pickup air away from the heat of the engine. ??? Re. the AV compressor you're getting--please be sure and post back when you get it. What I've read sounds really good, especially at that price point. I'm sure you've pre-ordered one, right? I don't think there in stock anywhere. ???

I believe the intake extension is to prevent the exhaust from the gas engine from getting sucked into the intake of the compressor pump. This really isn't a problem if you're using the compressor to fill pcp tanks. It is a problem if you use the compressor to fill scuba tanks, then breath in the air while you're diving which might be mixed with carbon dioxide, which isn't good. I took the extension off my Honda powered Coltri compressor as I don't use it to fill scuba diving tanks.
