New to air gunnin

Jeff, Most PCP guns are adjustable to certain degree. Usually hammer spring tension. Increase the force that the hammer opens the valve and it lets more air out to push the pellet faster. Spring guns require more work. There are kits available for this or you can send the gun to an air gun smith. The Benjamin Marauder or (Mrod as it is affectionately called) is very tunable. A good place to learn about this is here: http://www.marauderairrifle.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=14&sid=a929448cebcce629ade97b6169002228

This will give you an idea of how most PCP's work.

That does help a lot. Iam having a ball just watching the videos and learning about air gunning! I have a tendency to get way to deep into whatever I am doing, but it seems like that may not be a bad thing in this sport. I am going to do some more research this next week and see if I can actually lay hands on one and see what it's all about.
Thanks for all the help guys!
Jeff

LOL! Then you will fit right in here. I started out with a cheap spring gun 2 years ago just to have something plink with. Then Like you I started researching. Big mistake! Came across Teds Videos and the rest as they say is history. I have since spent well over $6,000. with PCP guns and hardware. Damn you Ted! LOL! Anyway they don't call PCP guns the dark side of air gunning for no reason. Turn away now while you still can!!!

Hey congrats! That's a great starter gun. Kind of it the middle of your original wants list. As for scopes, PCP guns are not hard on them as there is no significant recoil. So as long as the scope you choose will focus down to 10 yards or so then you can use pretty much anything you want. You may want to ask this question in a separate thread in the "optics" forum.

My suggestion was gonna be...
If your in an apartment and want to play with a rifle around 25 ft, I suggest a Hammerli 850 with a bulk conversion and a TKO LDC. Off a phone app, I measured the sound level at 30 dB on my .177. It'll take out small game in .177 or .22. Nice thing about an 850 is you can convert it to PCP for around $200 when you free up some funds. Next suggestion would be a refurbished Maurader from Airgun Depot for $400 but unlike the 850, you will have to scope it and at short range a scoped gun kinda sucks.
