New scope for my Sheridan Blue Streak.

I have had this beauty since my grandfather gave it to me in 1990 I have been shooting it since 1987 when I was 12 and I was tasked with clearing the birds from his cherry trees. I would sit in a lawn chair between the two trees and wait for hours picking off any brave critters that dared to come close. It had a 4x32 bushnell scope that did the job.

One beautiful summer day we were by his workshop and a black bird landed just past the garden about 40 yards away. I began my stalk and remember him giving me a hard time as I liked to get right next to my prey before taking the shot. I could not let him down but the distance seemed insurmountable. I stood tall and steadied my aim but the reticle was moving all over the place. I let the shot go and the bird dropped right where it was standing. I looked up and no one was more surprised than my grandfather. I ran right over and brought it back for inspection revealing the perfect head shot. That was the day he gave me this gun and I will never let it go.

I have always wanted to see what it could really do and just upgraded to a Hawke Sport Optics Vantage 3-9x40 AO Mil Dot riflescope. I am also trying to find the right pellet. Here is what I have done so far. 5 shot groups to start at 25 yard indoor range in my basement. I am pretty happy with the results so far.

My question is can this be a 50, 60, 100 yard gun? Will chronograph and different pumps help? Is upgrade work worth it if it shoots this well stock? Any other advice would be welcome.

Hi Andrew;

There aren't any links or pictures of your groups.

I had a couple of Blue Streaks that I bought in 1976. I put 4 power Bushnell scopes on them. I only ever shot the Sheridan pellets in them. I remember being upset because the best I could do with the rifles was to keep all the pellets on a match book cover at 25 yards. I don't know exactly but I'm guessing that was just a bit larger than an inch and a quarter square. I actually called Sheridan and complained and the lady asked me what I expected from an air rifle. :) She was right of course but wouldn't she be surprised today?

I think in good hands with a bit of TLC and the right pellet you should be able to keep all your pellets on a dime at 25 yards with that rifle, maybe a bit better than that.

Your rifle has sentimental value. Sometimes that is more important than "souping" it up. Maybe a professional restore but I personally would not modify something that held so many memories.

Thanks guys for all the hints on where to send my old Blue streak.
Its part of my youth and I hate having something in my open gun case that does not work.
I am sure I will not shoot it much , But I want it to work..
Maybe put a Steroid kit in it, Seems like a good investment,
Makes me kind of feel sorry for the youth of 2016, Not knowing what it feels like to sling a gun, Even a 22 rim fire or shot gun over your shoulders at 10 years old and walk down the street to the pastures, And blast away for hours on end at turtles and varmints .
I sure miss them days.
Mike

I bought a.20 cal. Blue Streak after my discharge (honorable) from the Army in 1962.

It was a well-built rifle and fun to use, but there came a time after I got older when I would take it out to shoot after Breakfast, and it was Suppertime when I finally got it pumped up. At age 80, multi-pumpers are not for me anymore, so I gave it to my brother-in-law who is just a kid of 61.
